Roadrunner Records – More All Stars Announced For 25th Anniversary CD

New York, NY – Roadrunner Records has advanced in the process of putting together the groundbreaking “Roadrunner All-Stars” record to mark the label’s 25th Anniversary. The full-length release will contain original musical collaborations between past and present Roadrunner artists. Approximately 50 musicians are expected to participate in this record, making it a most elaborate collaboration project.

Four central musicians have been chosen to produce and write all the songs. Previously announced were Joey Jordison (SLIPKNOT), Dino Cazares (ex-FEAR FACTORY/BRUJERIA) and Robert Flynn (MACHINE HEAD). The fourth writer/producer has recently been selected – 19 year-old metal prodigy Matt Heafy will take the lead of the fourth team. His band, TRIVIUM, has been called “.the valedictorian(s) of the 2005 metal class” by HIT PARADER Magazine. “It blew my mind to be asked to participate on this album and write a few tracks,” says Heafy “It’s an amazing honor to be able to record with artists that I used to emulate and listen to growing up.” These four musicians will not only play on the songs they have written but also assemble a unique team of Roadrunner artists to appear on each track.

Notable progress has been made in Jordison’s, Cazares’ and Flynn’s teams. Music has been laid down, but vocals have yet to be added. The vocalists for the tracks have not been confirmed as of yet. The artists that have contributed to the tracks recorded thus far are:

Rob Barrett (Malevolent Creation)
Matt Baumbach (Vision Of Disorder)
Dino Cazares (Fear Factory/Brujeria)
Steve DiGiorgio (Sadus)
Matt DeVries (Chimaira)
Marcelo Dias (Soulfly)
Robert Flynn (Machine Head)
Rhys Fulber (Fear Factory/Front Line Assembly)
Paul Gray (Slipknot)
Andols Herrick (Chimaira)
Steve Holt (36 Crazyfists)
Joey Jordison (Slipknot)
Andreas Kisser (Sepultura)
Logan Mader (Machine Head)
Roy Mayorga (Soulfly)
Dave McClain (Machine Head)
James Murphy (Obituary/Disincarnate)
Tommy Niemeyer (Gruntruck)
Nadja Peulen (Coal Chamber)
Dave Pybus (Cradle Of Filth)
Souren “Mike” Sarkisyan (Spineshank)
Acey Slade (Murderdolls)
Jeff Waters (Annihilator)
Jordan Whelan (Still Remains)
Christian Olde Wolbers (Fear Factory)

Futher contributions to the album are also expected from:

Corey Beaulieu (Trivium)
Mike D’Antonio (Killswitch Engage)
Johnny Kelly (Type O Negative)
Andy LaRocque (King Diamond)
Tom Holkenberg (Junkie XL)
Josh Silver (Type O Negative)

Though no vocals have been recorded as yet, vocalists scheduled to appear on the album are:

Glen Benton (Deicide)
Keith Caputo (Life Of Agony)
Max Cavalera (Soulfly)
King Diamond (Mercyful Fate/King Diamond)
Dez Fafara (DevilDriver/Coal Chamber)
Dani Filth (Cradle Of Filth)
Matthew K. Heafy (Trivium)
Mark Hunter (Chimaira)
Howard Jones (Killswitch Engage)
Brock Lindow (36 Crazyfists)
Jesse Leach (ex-Killswitch Engage)
Daryl Palumbo (Glassjaw)
Peter Steele (Type O Negative)
John Tardy (Obituary)
Kyle Thomas (Exhorder/Floodgate)

The project is being overseen by longtime Roadrunner A&R man Monte Conner. “I feel like Dr. Frankenstein, combining various musicians to form all these different monsters,” says Conner. “It’s an incredible amount of work but I am having the time of my life doing it. In the end, it will sound like a cohesive record. So far, Joey, Robert and Dino have all really worked their asses off, taking this project as seriously as they would their own bands. I am quite indebted to them. They’ve all done an unbelievable job.”

Mixing duties will be handled by legendary hard rock producer, Colin Richardson. The album is tentatively scheduled for release in the Fall of 2005.

Ill Nino – New Album Update From The Studio

ILL NINO frontman Cristain Machado has checked in with the following message:

“WOW. What a week of chaos (mixing, mastering, last minute touch ups, 420). The good news is that the new ILL NINO record is almost complete. As I type, Dan Korneff is giving his final yet magical touches to the last two songs remaining. Dave (Chavarri), Eddie (Wohl), Dan (Korneff), and I have literally been working 15 hour days to make sure this record is the most intense and conceptual NINO release to date. Overall, we have been having a great time. Making a record is still a lot of hard work but nevertheless, we all find the time to throw a good mother joke here and there. Humiliating each other to pass the time seems to be the popular thing to do nowadays. Your mother’s so fat…she…

“There is no doubt in my mind that all of the ILL fans out there are going to be very proud of this record. The entire band is very psyched about how fucking killer the music and lyrics are turning out. All of the Roadrunner Records staff has been giving us nothin’ but love and are doing an amazing job. Not only have they encouraged complete creative expansion, but they also agreed on having Scrap 60 (ANTHRAX, ILL NINO, CRADLE OF FILTH, BLEEDING THROUGH) produce the band. They were involved in the making of our first release, Revolution.Revolucion. and understood the band like no one else ever has. Bottom line, on this record we fucking exploded. We didn’t give a fuck about anything other than being what ILL NINO should be: Brutal, intense, cultured, obscure, and slightly demented. I won’t waste your time trying to explain the overall concept of the record. The music will speak for itself. After all, that’s all that really matters.”

What else from the world of ILL NINO? Drummer Dave Chavarri joins guitarist Ahrue in the band as being the only two members without dreads. “Yes, I’ve cut my dreds,” tells Chavarri. “Everyone’s been sending me e-mails, asking if I’ve cut my dreds. Well after almost 7 years of dreds, I felt I needed a change, and it was time to cut them off.”

Scum – Debut Album Completed

The following message was sent to earlier today by SCUM drummer Bard Faust:

SCUM, [the new Norwegian/American project featuring Samoth (ZYKLON, ex-EMPEROR), Faust (ex-EMPEROR), Happy Tom (TURBONEGRO), Casey Chaos (AMEN) and Cosmocrator (MINDGRINDER)] just mastered the debut album, ‘Gospels for the Sick’, and while Casey Chaos was still in Norway we also recorded a video for the album. The recordings were done on a low budget but the crew behind the recordings were professional and we were happy to manage to pull it off since Casey was already in Norway.

SCUM will play on the well known Øyafestivalen (Island Festival) in Oslo on the 13th of August and possibly at the Hole in the Sky festival in Bergen, Norway at the end of August. Album release is set to September.

On similar lines, I just joined Oslo thrashers BLOOD TSUNAMI. We will record a demo in the end of June and we plan on doing several gigs and establish ourselves as a firm and steady live band.

The ABORYM album is still under a recording and mixing process. I put down the drums in the end of April and Prime Evil (MYSTICUM) will go down to Rome in July to put down the vocal tracks. Attila [Csihar, now in MAYHEM] will also put down some vocals which will mark this the farewell album from his side.”

Celtic Frost – New Album Update

CELTIC FROST frontman Tom Fischer has posted the following message in his official blog:

“A truly astonishing week so far. I happened to come across, and rather unexpectedly so, the incredible and indescribable talents of TEAM SLEEP‘s Zach Hill. With all due (and sincere) respect to many other extraordinary drummers, Hill is simply the best drummer I have ever had the honour of seeing play life. Chino Moreno’s own performance was truly stirring as well. And yet we all couldn’t take our eyes off what was taking place behind the (miniscule) drum kit. Incomprehensible, in the most positive sense of the word.

And last night, Martin brought Simone Vollenweider to our rehearsal studio. Her affiliation with us goes back to Apollyon Sun recording sessions many years ago, and she has performed numerous vocals for us since. Martin has spent quite some time re-writing a composition now titled “Incantation against You” and then rehearsing it with Simone. And we finally got to hear it and record a pre-production demo of it yesterday. I have had hardly any part in the writing of this song so far, but it has always been one of my favourites. It is different, dark, captivating, melodic, tragic and intoxicating. I have thus often argued for its inclusion on the album, at times even in opposition to Martin’s own opinion.

And then I heard the radically new version. And I truly lacked the words to describe my veneration and the emotions that Martin’s ideas and Simone’s vocals evoked inside of me. In topic and musical notion, “Incantation” connects so directly to many things this band wrote and recorded so long ago. And yet, it is something genuinely new for us and something eerie and deeply beautiful at the same time.

The night ended with Simone adding some more harmonies to Cornelia’s operatic vocals on “Os Abysmi vel Daath”. And tonight, we will continue our work on the utterly challenging but important “Obscured”. Piece by piece, the album is growing nearer to completion. And the more it appears complete, the more it makes sense as a big picture, as one aural play.

At least to us. “

God Forbid – Almost Done Tracking New Album

GOD FORBID guitarist Doc Coyle has posted the following message on the band’s official website:

“Hello friends,
G4B is almost done with the general tracking of IV:Constitution of Treason. We’re finishing up the bass tracks, extra guitar stuff, and little bit of the ear candy that goes onto a record to give it some added spice in the next week, and than mixdown will take place with Eric Rachel throughout the majority of June. Not to blow smoke, but it sounds incredible thus far, and several people of the few that have heard it demand that it’s our best work to date. I’m not going to argue with them, but I won’t make any severe judgements until it’s completely done. I can say that Byron has made some huge leaps in his vocal range and tone. Producer, Jason Suecoff, showed his quality in that regard. I think people will be suprised when they hear the growth in the vocals overall, where as we used more of triple vocal approach. Musically, it’s a more refined and complex version of the traditional GOD FORBID sound, but offers several new twists and turns to the fold. I can’t wait until it’s all done so everyone out there can hear it. Since the album doesn’t come out until September 20th, we don’t expect to tour until late August or early September. We have booked several summer shows in the meantime to stay busy, and showcase some of the new material. Hope to see everyone on the road. Peace.”

Pinion – Mike Patton Agrees to Score Independent Film

Mike Patton has agreed to compose the score for the independent film, PINION. The director/writer, Melanie Lee, chose Patton because she felt that he had a commanding capability to make an intense soundscape to compliment her visuals. This is Patton’s first score composition for an American film.

Mike Patton was made famous for his irreverent frontman responsibilities for FAITH NO MORE, MR. BUNGLE, and recently, the very complex and experimental FANTOMAS. Patton’s versatility and ingenuity has allowed him to work with the likes of John Zorn, Burt Bacharach, Ikue Mori, and Bjork. Patton was chosen for his ability to produce layered and eerie atmospheres, coupled with his comfort level with the film making process. Though this is Patton’s first score composition, he is no stranger to movies. Patton has just completed production in Steve Balderson’s film FIRECRACKER playing not one, but two lead roles.

PINION is set to begin production in fall of 2005 and will star award winning actor Peter Greene (PULP FICTION, THE USUAL SUSPECTS, TRAINING DAY, THE RICH MAN’S WIFE).
