Four members of seminal British rock band PINK FLOYD will play together for the first time in 24 years at London’s Live 8 charity concert for Africa on July 2, publicists for the event said on Sunday. Guitarist David Gilmour, drummer Nick Mason and keyboard player Richard Wright will be on stage with bassist Roger Waters for their first public performance since they played at London’s Earls Court in 1981.

The rock legends will join a star-studded line-up including COLDPLAY, ELTON JOHN and PAUL MCARTNEY at the Live 8 concert in Hyde Park, organized by activist rocker Bob Geldof to pressure rich nations to ease African poverty.

“Like most people I want to do everything I can to persuade the G8 leaders to make huge commitments to the relief of poverty and increased aid to the third world,” said Gilmour.

“Any squabbles Roger and the band have had in the past are so petty in this context, and if reforming for this concert will help focus attention then it’s got to be worthwhile.”

Bolt Thrower – Laying Down Drums And Guitars

BOLT THROWER drummer Martin Kearns has posted the following studio update on the band’s forthcoming album:

“Ok, another update for you…

Today I put my final drum track down for the album’s ‘bonus track’, it was a real blaster (no, not blast-beat) of a song, so quite a nice one to end my recording on. Whether it makes it onto the album or not we’ll see, but it’s there anyway. Now it’s time for the sad part, where I have to pack away my drums until we start the tour rehearsals. Overall I am (and apparently everyone else is) really chuffed with how my drums went down. I had a few nightmare moments with the record, and have had to push myself but I definitely think this is my best drumming so far, can’t wait till this album is finally finished. Anyway, we’re a good few weeks off that…

The next couple of days we spent going through the drum tracks I’d recorded, picking out the best takes for future reference. Not much to say about that, I guess you have to ‘be there’…haha…

OK, we’re ready for some guitars!! Baz is up first, doing his rhythm tracks. I heard he took 4 days to find his guitar sound when he recorded ‘…For Victory’, so I hadn’t got a clue when he’d actually start laying some tracks down! Much to my amazement, I turned up to find him actually cleaning his guitar! I’ve been in the band on and off for 10 years, and I think I’ve only seen it happen twice. Anyway, we made sure we took a photo of it as proof!!

The following day, Baz is still on the search for his ultimate guitar sound. There’s cables everywhere, and I think just about every piece of equipment we own is being tried out. I think it’s sounds killer anyway, but apparently there’s still a frequency that needs adjusting. The sound seems to really suit the chugging stuff, but lacks clarity when played fast ? or something?! I’m glad I’m a drummer, that’s all I can say!

Right, well a few adjustments later and Baz is a happy man again, I’ve got no idea what set-up he finally decided on, and I don’t wanna ask in case it gets changed again!! A change of strings and it looks like we’re ready for some riffs!!

Baz jams along with the first song and to be honest it’s already blowing me away. He puts couple of rhythms down and we call it a day. Time to give our ears a break and come back in the morning to check that we’re all happy with the sound.

Next morning comes, we listen back and yes, we’ll all very happy with the sound. Baz plugs in and we’re ready to roll again, more on that next time… “

Crisis – Almost Struck By Tornados, Stuck In ‘Purgatory’

CRISIS frontwoman Karyn Crisis has posted the following message in her official blog:

“What an incredible and surreal experience we had last night. The circumstances surrounding our show and the events that ensued were strange indeed and when going over it we realized that what we had lived had the makings for a really great horror flick (or a really bad one, but those are great sometimes too.) The best thing is that it is all absolutely true.

It started out in Dallas at the show the night before when someone gave us the heads-up that the show we were doing in Oklahoma City was at a club called “Purgatory”. (The movie’s even got a name already.) The club was actually a church at one point.

So it’s a bright and sunny day when we leave Dallas but it’s quite cloudy and windy by the time we get to the club in OK. It was no Limelight or anything but obviously from the architecture, club “Purgatory” was indeed a church at some point. Why was it no longer a church? Well we load our gear in and the house crew goes on to tell us that the club is rumored to be haunted. The preacher who used to give services at the church apparently killed himself in the basement. To everyone in the town’s understanding, the preacher became obsessed with the idea that he was being possessed by demons. Afterwards the church closed and was converted into a rock venue called “Purgatory”. (You can’t make this stuff up.)

Pretty soon after we get this piece of background info, it comes to our attention through the locals that not one but TWO tornados are making their way north to where we are. They’ve already closed the major freeway that we used to actually get there. At this point the sky is looking very dark and strange fast moving cloud formations are taking shape in the surrounding area. We all take our personal belongings outside of the van and into the club as a precautionary measure in case something happens to the van and trailer during the tornado. We might be at the club for longer than we expected.

Pretty soon we’re all inside the club looking at the torrential rain and the gusty winds through the back doorway. Some of us venture into the basement where the incident where the preacher occurred but it seems to most that the psychic disturbance seems more prevalent in the upstairs VIP area. The place where inanimate objects have been known to be fly around inexplicably as is being propelled by some unseen force. (Seriously, the people that work at the club are telling us this.)

The wind is so bad that it seems to be raining horizontally through the doorway and hall. Thunder booms and lightning flashes. The tornados are getting very close. It seems best that we close the door and stay inside. The opening band is getting ready too hit the stage when lightning strikes club Purgatory and all the lights go out. (I shit you not.) After a brief moment they come back on. All the electrical equipment seems ok except our soundguy’s cd burner gets fried.

We went on to have an good show and an amazing night. The tornados eventually passed and by the time we had to load out the rain had pretty much stopped. After we got out of the club we had some laughs about the nights events.

Thanks to all the fans who came out to support despite the crappy weather and even waited in line outside while the tornados were making their way towards the club. Your dedication to music is bordering on psychotic but appreciated all the same. Hopefully, we’ll see you again on the road later this summer.”
