Maryland Deathfest 2009: First Band Announcements Coming Soon, Contemplating Name Change

The organizers of the annual Maryland Deathfest, which will take place next year from May 22nd to 24th, 2009 at the Sonar in Baltimore, MD, have posted the following update:

“We’re finalizing details for a pretty massive first round of band announcements for the 2009 festival. A new website will be under way in the next few weeks and we’re also considering a name change as MDF has never showcased all death metal bands. One part of us has always thought it would be best to just keep the name the same as everyone knows it by that name, but a name change would appeal to those who have never been and think Maryland Deathfest is a 3 day festival with only death metal bands. Everyone knows by now that the agenda of the festival is to showcase a variety of metal sub-genres, so be on the look out for a new website and name pretty soon. The first band announcements should be ready to go next week. We’re also adding a few more members to official festival staff to help make the festival an even smoother running operation than it has been as we strive to put together the biggest festival we’ve ever done in 2009.”

Repulsion Drop Off Maryland Deathfest 2008

The organizers of the annual Maryland Deathfest, which will take place from May 23rd to 25th, have posted the following update about REPULSION cancelling their appearance at this year’s festival:

“Yes, we know it sucks. As a result of purchasing their flights several months ago, we plan on using the flight vouchers to have them play in 2009 as there is no way we can get the money back for them. It’s likely that we have to eat up some cancellation fees, but that’s just the way it goes. We can’t drag this process out any longer and an official statement from the band can be found below:

‘It is with profound regret and great personal disappointment that REPULSION must cancel its appearance at the Maryland Deathfest 08. One of our band members has very recently suffered a personal loss and
cannot attend. We put in a massive effort and exhausted all the options available to us to avoid having to cancel, but with only a few days left there simply wasn’t enough time to bring in a musician in to fill his invaluable shoes. We’re very sorry and want to apologize personally to Ryan and Evan of MDF as well as our fans. Furthermore, we urge you to please continue to go and support the show and the incredible roster of this year’s performers.’”

Maryland Deathfest Organizers Offer Update

The organizers for this year’s Maryland Deathfest, which will take place from Friday, May 23rd to Sunday, May 25th, at the Sonar in Baltimore, MD, have issued the following update:

“MDF 2008 tickets are now available to order and pick up at will call. We will no longer be mailing any orders received between now and the fest and you can pick up your tickets at the front entrance of the venue. Just bring along your receipt of purchase and you’re all set. Order tickets here.

SUBLIME CADAVERIC DECOMPOSITION were forced to cancel their apperance at MDF 2008 as they were sent back to France from Canada. We will not be replacing them with anyone and doors will now open at 12:30 PM on Sunday, May 25th with the first band on at 1:05 PM. We figured most of you will be hungover and tired at this time anyway, so we wanted to be nice guys and let you sleep a bit longer. This means you shouldn’t e-mail us about playing, nor e-mail us about playing next year as that is the last thing we are focused on at the moment.

Food at MDF: This year we have a permit to close off the street in front of Sonar which will allow us to have food vendors set up there. There will be a variety of food available in front of the venue this year, including vegetarian options.”

Sublime Cadaveric Decomposition Cancel North American Tour

Due to their attempts to enter Canada illegaly without work visas, SUBLIME CADAVERIC DECOMPOSITION have been sent back to France, thus causing them to cancel their previously announced North American tour this month. Yes, this includes their highly anticipated performance at this year’s Maryland Deathfest. You can read more about that here.

Ryan and Evan To Guest on XM Radio’s “The Ultraviolence”

Maryland Deathfest organizers Ryan and Evan will be in-studio guests this Friday, May 2nd on the XM Satellite Radio show “The Ultraviolence” (channel 42 XM Liquid Metal) to discuss the festival and play some songs from bands that are performing. The show, which is hosted by Jason Netherton of MISERY INDEX and Blake Harrison of PIG DESTROYER, runs from 7 to 9pm EST. Tune in so they can feel good about themselves. Late-Night Discount MDF Tickets Announced

Late-night ticket prices have been released for this year’s Maryland Deathfest, so if you only want to see the last few bands each day, you can save a few bucks. You can order tickets online here, and you can check out the festival’s line-up and set times here.

3 day pass: $85

Friday, May 23rd: $30 advance / $35 at door / $25 at door after 9 pm

Saturday, May 24th: $40 advance / $45 at door / $30 at door between 8:30 – 10:00 PM / $25 at door after 10 pm

Sunday, May 25th: $40 advance / $45 at door / $30 at door between 8:30 – 10:00 PM / $25 at door after 10 pm

Seattle-based “blackout grinders” SKARP have been announced as the final band for this year’s Maryland Deathfest, which will take place from May 23rd to 25th at the Sonar in Baltimore, MD. The band, which you can check out here, will kick off the festival on Friday, May 23rd at 5:15pm. CIRCLE OF DEAD CHILDREN have also now been moved to Sunday, May 25th at 5:50pm. This is expected the be the last change to the festival’s line-up, and running order is as follows:
