Another poll - best Necrophagist album

Do you prefer Necrophagist's oldest album or the new one? Don't vote unless you know both albums well, of course :)

Epitaph it is. The more I listen to it, the more I find, as Cloaca said somewhere, other stuff "relatively" boring.

Well, I've decided. Epitaph by a nanometre. Reason: The real drums on epitaph.

It is hard to compare them. But I'll try anyway. Onset for me, has more of a death metal appeal than Epitaph, the songs have a less "epic" feel to them. Epitaph, loses some of its death metal appeal to me because of its overt melodies (generally), but I can appreciate it more of musician level, the way the guitars play off eachother especially. The trance like rythym driving the solo(also breifly around the 1:38 mark) in "The StillBorn One" is something that I would of thought uncharacteristic of Muhammed's writing, yet very appealing none the less. That being said, the albums loses points in comparison to Onset, because of what I found to be an overemphasis on the soloing ( I know I know a huge part of the Necrophagist character), I would of liked to hear more focus on the riffing in general. But they didn't make this album for me. :(

After all that, it's still hard to decide, but one thing tips the scales towards Epitaph....a 12 -fingered bassist!!:p

Yeah, the bass on Epitaph is the work of a genius. Add awesome drums, two extraterestrial guitarists and you have the THING that Onset simply lacks - the chemistry of four soulmates - the outcome is simply unbelievable. I too prefered Onset after listening to Epitaph a couple of times, but that was not enough. Now, after listening to it A LOT, theres no other way. Yet Onset will always be as special as Epitaph to me.

My friend actually introduced me into you guys by showing me both cds, Epitaph had just been released. I was keener on Onset in terms of individual songs, but have since grown to like Epitaph much more and I can appreciate musically its on a higher level than the first....both killer cds never the less.
