Sweet, I was already getting the shakes waiting for a date. But I think I'll wait until Monday before bitching and moaning about the lack of band announcements. LOL

I wouldn't mind if it's at another club to be honest. Sonar is cool and all but the security there are f'kin' dicks!

Security at Sonar are fine minus a couple of dicks. I've been to way worse places for shows. If you don't give them a reason to be dicks to you its amazing how cool they are most of the time. I'm sure there are some out to be assholes but its like that anywhere.

For nearly not having the venue open and all of that..they should leave but security is the absolute last reason why.

I wouldn't mind it being at Sonar again. I can't really see it going to any other club really. Ottobar or Ram's Head can't contain that many people and be able to shut down the adjacent streets for the stages like over at the Sonar.

Trying to decide between commiting to doing MDF again next year or leaning towards a Euro fest again... though cause of being randomly fussy, it'd probably only be a toss up between MDF, Bloodshed (which isn't till October anyway) and that Killtown Deathfest if it happens again.

If MDF X had more grind etc on it than this year - in place of the generic DM/BM/ old school thrash of this year - , it'd be pretty hard to not choose it again though.

I'll go again next year, not just for the bands that are playing, but mainly for hanging out with friends I only get to see once a year. So many epic non-show memories of the previous MDF's.

Yeah, I had a surprisingly better time than I imagined, though I was far more sober than I intended.
Looking back I think I was a lot more reserved and cautious than I would be on repeat attendances for sure. Still be nice to convince more of my compatriots to make the journey over though, if mainly just so you're not introduced as some sort of sideshow novelty for being British haha

I'm quite keen to do a proper east coast vacation at some point so it'd probably make sense to do it around MDF. Have a few weeks doing the usual touristy shit in NY, Boston, Washington etc, hang out with my friend in Philly then finish it off with hedonism abound at MDF.
Completely depends on whether I can get my "dream" job I'm gunning for on Friday, or failing that any kind of full-time work soon so I have the funds to do, well, anything foreign.

It'd be a straight toss-up between that MDF trip and Kill-Town Deathfest (which'd hopefully be rammed full of Scandeath filth), unless Bloodshed adds some bands I'm majorly itching to see (ie Suffering Mind, Magrudergrind etc).

Do not skip MDF because you want to see Magrudergrind. Not really a fair trade off. Although Holland is alot closer than the US of A.

Magrudergrind tours Europe like every year, hommes. And you people in Europe usually get better tour packages than in the US.

I wouldn't. My first choice would be MDF X but it'd be totally dependent on what my financial circs are next year.

If, and it's a big if, I could afford to do MDF again and at least half the bands on the bill appeals to me, I'd probably would.
Though if it was a question of just about being able to scrape MDF X with minimal outlay on beer & merch, or going to say Bloodshed with a great lineup, I'd find it hard to not just go for the latter.

I'm just stuck in the situation where I'm only working part-time at the moment. The only reason I could afford to do MDF this year was a windfall from the taxman, otherwise i'd have barely been able to afford to leave about a 30mile radius of where I live let alone go to the US.
Fact is the price of a transatlantic flight to BWI, it costs pretty much double what it costs for a flight to the Netherlands and a hotel stay for a couple of nights. So it'd be entirely down to money.

I've got an interview on Friday for pretty much what is the job I've been looking for for nearly six years so if I don't crumble like a cheap whore/French soldier, hold my end in the interview and get the job, I'll probably do the American option.

They tour mainland Europe "like every year". Hardly ever come to the UK.
Last time they did they managed to come when I was, no exaggeration, literally flat broke and the closest they played to where I live was about 70 or more miles away which doesn't sound like much but whne you're reliant on antiquated public transport like me, it means the cost of going pretty much quadruples. And four times nothing still equals nothing.

I hope I wasn't coming off as a dick, but the wacky bands you get to see at OEF are definitely better live than Magrudergrind.

Nah, you weren't coming off as a dick at all man. I'm evidently still pissed off at not being able to catch them last time they came through the UK, and how regular an occurance that's getting to be with work the way it is. Having to skip more and more bands when they choose to play one side of the Pennines instead of the other.

To a lot of bands - both American and European - the notion of a "European Tour" seems to consist of little more than about four dates in Germany, three or four other central or eastern european countries picked seemingly at random and that's it. If they're added to a festival it's a lucky break.
Even then there's a ton of bands that I'd love to see that might never come to Europe that I'm sure you guys are used to seeing on a regular basis (Circle Of Dead Children, ACxDC, Funebrarum, Decrepitaph...)

I would do Obscene Extreme again if only it wasn't such a fucking ballache camping at a festival. I used to love camping as a holiday but seriously just fucks me right off now, plus in my opinion so much of the intensity of grind is lost when it's on an outdoors stage. I'd much rather watch it in some dark, sweaty pit of a club and revel in it than bake my arse off in the hot sunshine outside straining to hear music quality that's nowhere near that of an indoor PA.
Play Fast Or Don't Fest is mightily tempting too but that seems to have turned into a camping one too...

Yeah, I am probably just being a tad too sensitive about an incident that occurred of which I was involved in, that's all.. a minor incident I should say.. yet for those curious, what happened was at the time I was under the false impression that people could smoke weed on the side street area by the sonar, as long as you're discreet about it.. 'cause after all I saw numerous people doing it. Lo and behold, a black security dude gets all up in my face to confiscate the joint and threaten me with getting arrested, etc. Of course he was just giving me a warning n' all but when I told him I was genuinely sorry and that I wouldn't do it again, of course like the typical downtrodden, broken 'black' man they all portray themselves out to be.. the dude continued to go on a long winded speech about how he was a father of five kids and therefore he had mouths to feed and wasn't willing to risk the joint to get shutdown and lose his job, etc., etc. I mean, fuckin' dude rambled on for like 5 fuckin' min. when I told him, "look, I fuckin' get it already!"

.. and needless to say for him to confiscate the joint and put it in his pocket, it doesn't take a genius to figure that he probably went to smoke it after his 'security' duties were over. Hey, it's not the first time I've witnessed security confiscate drugs in a club just so they could have at them for their own personal use. The fuckin' cops in my neighborhood are notorious for that shit as well!

In the years I've gone, I've seen security almost facilitating smoking both inside the fences and outside. Maybe each of them has a different policy? Sucks that happened to you, it helps to have a vehicle or a friend with one. But getting a dugout/one hitter is always good, you can even ninja a session in while inside Sonar if you're brave enough to risk getting thrown out.

Why so defensive? Quit getting on a soapbox about everything and calling into question people's internet existences. Going on a semi-racist tangent because you got busted doing something illegal is not a good look for you. I blazed throughout the entire fest (in fact, if I'm not mistaken about your identity, I think I smoked you up too), but I knew what the consequences of being caught were in case it were to happen, and I was prepared to be fucked by security as a trade-off. Man up and tone down the vitriol.
