So, do you think people covering songs in general is pretentious and gay? or just vocal covers?

putting them on youtube is. yes. I just donīt get it. I mean itīs cool for the band/ the musician cause you train your abilities. I mean, back in the day when lyle covered SOP, that was amazing. or when you two covered defeated sanity, but come on apart from that most of that youtube shit is more than dispensable.

I haven't listened to it, lol.

and when I said I liked watching people do covers, that doesn't really include vocal covers, maybe if I was a vocalist I'd care more about them. Drums, bass and guitar is all I usually care about.

Nothing wrong with their music, just saddens me to see Samoth and Trym not in Emperor, same deal with Ihsahn's solo stuff. THEY NEED TO BE A BAND GODDAMNIT.

Does it really get much better than this?

Ha ha, I think we have pretty different opinions on what "good Emperor" is. One song on Anthems doesn't give me douche chills, the songs I do enjoy on IX Equilibrium are guilty pleasures, and Prometheus is absolutely insufferable. Yeah, Zyklon never put out an In the Nightside Eclipse, but most bands never will.

In the Nightside is my favorite of their albums, that was just a quick live video i picked, but it also happens to be one of my favorites. I don't even need new material, I just need a US tour from them.

Anthems sounds like evil disney music; IX Equilibrium has good riffs soured by gaudy gay pipe organs blaring over everything. Don't get me wrong, I'll listen the fuck out of Cure You All Men, Decrystalizing Reason, The Source of Icon E, and Nonus Aequilibruim. But like, in secret. Any one mentions Emperor and I'll readily admit to listening to ITNE; you'll have to coax anything else out of me.

You glorify a band that willingly turned themselves into Dimmu Borgir. You, sir, are the faggot.

They were a prominent feature on ITNE, but they were still a means to an end. They were an integral part of the atmosphere but didn't overstep those boundaries. Moderation and context.

On subsequent albums they simply became a habitual prerequisite; there's really no need for them to be there, other then "well, we used them on the last album...might as well use them again."

There actually is a reason for them to be there. They are still an integral part of the atmosphere on Anthems, with a different approach. Obviously opted towards a more 'epic' feel, which I personally dig.

Sound nothing like Dimmu, though.

No, it's wrong to have taste so fucking close minded and shitty that you can't even listen to Prometheus. Album was fucking tight.

It works and it doesn't. You have songs like Ye Entrancemperium, where they support the core band and create a really grandiose harmonic context, and then you have songs like Thus Spake the Nightspirit where they blare right into the foreground of the mix and carry the song like a conventional "hook", like it's some faggy Children of Bodom song.

Which, I dunno, you may very well be into, using the word "epic" and all.

I'm not asking bands to artistically paint themselves into a corner, but I prefer if they are going to branch out and take other approaches to music they be mindful and tasteful. I don't dislike Prometheus because it's not In the Nightside Eclipse 2: Eclipse Harder. I dislike it because it's gay.
