i need tips on the guitar tone. i recorded the left guitar while learning it, so it sucks but i mixed everything differently and used some cab impulses

man that's a really great tune. i love it!

Did you high pass the guitars? sounds like there's a lot of treble in that tone.

i tried this time to take out more bass that i usually put in because always seemed to be the problem.

I've started to not really touch the guitar post-tracking, except a bit of compression, LP at 80Hz and HP at 12kHz

those sound great and i love the actual music. are you workin on full songs?

tckt, your guitars need more bass and mids, particularly mids, the bass is pretty buried in the mix, usually when that happens to me it needs more midrange. song sounds cool. what are you using for guitars aside from the impulses?

and mongeese just fyi, youre mixing up hp and lp. i understand though cause confused the shit out of me at first.

here is ROUGH version of a song for a project im workin on. dont take the playing serious at all as i wrote everything and then recorded the guitars first take and hardly knew the song. bass i am pretty much just fucking around the entire time. i just wanted to show the drum sounds mainly cause im loving it.

thanks for the kind words dude, it's really encouraging. i've got enough in the way of material/ideas for an EP, at least. expect something released in the next year.

anyways, enough about me. that mix is monstruous. it's so raw and articulate at the same time. did you go to school for engineering and/or production? sounds pretty damn professional.

one last question...what are you using for the guitar tones? it doesn't sound digital to me (that's a good thing).

drums sounds ace. samples on superior still right? there's some clipping in the gtrs though. sounds like an Axe-FX.

thanks, no i didnt go to school for audio and im probably the last person who would recommend to someone to go haha.

guitars are indeed axe-fx, drums are superior 2 for cymbals/toms and samples for snare and kick. some samples ive found on the andy sneap forum.

I'm still not liking your tone. Are you using Guitar Rig or whatever? If you used some Nick Crow plugins and Ryan Harvey's impulses that would help immensely.

Also, the drums scream EZDrummer. Try and pirate Superior, I know there's one or two good torrents for it.

I'm not saying this isn't good, I actually really enjoyed your vocals haha, but an upgrade in plugins should get your recordings sounding a lot better.

EDIT: Try and find a VST to AU converter to use some of the Win only guitar plugins.

The Steve Slate presets are now available from Toontrack for all you Superior users. I kind of like the idea of them starting up a producers preset feature, but they need to be a little cheaper imo. I also wouldn't rely on it either. Use it more as a means to "study" what others have done so that it helps you with your programming/tweaking. I also take it Bulb might eventually be apart of that new feature.

I thought Ben does all his eqing and compression in his host? So, a preset wouldn't do you much good. Hook us up anyway, I just ordered Superior 2.0.

so, a template then? there's nothing in the superior mixer? just the default kit?

if so, comparing that template to the steve slate presets is a bit unfair, haha.

I hear ya. $9 is a bit much for some presets imo. $3-$5 would be ace. So ben doesn't do anything in Superior?

the only things he does is change the drum kit from the default. i think he changes the snare, bass drum and toms from the default

side note, im in a bit of a writing slump so this is an older song i wrote with some friends
and another thing, some of the drum notes(ride and a crash) dont come out so at part it might soung empty from the drums
