Questions about building a guitar

I was wondering if anyone has actually built their own guitar from scratch out of a big chunk of wood?? If so post pics. I've had the idea in my head for years to to make one. I should have all the tools I'll need, if not I work as a carpenter and we have a small wookworking shop. So now I'm actually going to take on the project. I was wondering if anyone would have any advice on anything?

Where could I get a quality neck for a guitar?

Also which would you go with. Mahogany? or Maple? or Both?

The bassist in my band just recently built a guitar.

I'll get all the photos he's taken from the project and post 'em for you.

Along, with hopefully some detailed explanation, but that's if I remember it all.

I was talking with a luthier recently who builds acoustics, but has a lot of experience doing solid body electrics as well. He recommended me to read through and work on each of the three instruments laid out in this book:

There is also a big chunk of the beginning that outlines designing your own instrument, and it is also very helpful. I need to work on a few simple projects first, because some of the woodworking is quite advanced. Luckily my Dad has been doing it most of his life, so I am going to get some help from him. I'll let you know how it goes, but it's probably going to take me like a year to finish something of questionable quality. Hah

My friend just made a bass with his dad. It's awesome. I know he has some progress picks, I'll see if I can get em and post em.

When and if you plan to make it, go slowly and think everything through. I witnessed the progress of my friend's bass and there are so many things he did that I totally would have overlooked and would have made the finished product reaal shitty.
