I didnt see any corpse paint. Though I saw the same really fucking tall dude that I saw at Morbid Angel back in April.

That dude must be like 6'10 or something. Sticks out just a bit.

I just had a look at the article from Blabbermouth and the actual comment from Samoth sort of suggests he is still trying to get in.

...also, how was the sound quality? I wondering mainly about thy keyboard sound. I assume most of the (harder) parts are not actually played live but pre recorded with some kind of MIDI format.

Thanks...it seemed to go over fairly well. I didn't catch a bike chain in the grill, so I guess that's a good marker for success for the night. ;)

Quite frankly I'm shocked Crucified Coma hasn't taken the time to publicly skewer us yet.

Anyways, for those on the edge of their seat wondering if Samoth will make the LA shows, I will tell you that they didn't sound terribly optimistic about it talking to them backstage.

Oh, and for what it's worth, Emperor is hands down one of the nicest bands I've ever met. You kind of expect a hint of rockstar attitude with a band like that, but they were incredibly nice, and really no trace of any rockstar tude. Same with the crew they brought out.

And they do put on a great show. A few folks were bitching and moaning about the overall set length, but I would say the vast majority were very happy and felt they got their money's worth. Especially considering they were a man down, Emperor really tore the place up last night. Great to watch.

Cool moment of the night, some rando fan brought Ihsahn an extremely nice custom guitar as a gift with just about every bell and whistle you can imagine. He was pretty floored by it...and the other guys kind of had a little "umm, so where's my shit?" moment out of it. LOL.

In sound checks the sound was incredibly clean and loud, but it seemed like during the actual show it was quieter to me. Probably the effect of having a shit ton of people in there absorbing sound, but it was top quality, IMO, for a club show. Their sound check sound was phenominal though. Trym's bass drums just shook the place.

The keyboards featured rather well in the live set, and I do believe he was using some pre-recorded samples. He def had a few he was toying with in sound checks.

Thanks for the info MadMike! Im still siting on the edge of my seat about Samoth. What did they tell you about him exactly???

Also, did anyone go to the instore autograph signing today? How was it? Real big croud with long lines or was it more mellow and quick?

Day 2 was good, same setlist.

I've seen a handful of bm bands in my time, and Emperor's set tonight was the best performance ever! Even better than Immortal.

I hope Sammoth doesn't make it into the US, fuck LA. :p

I know I shat on Mike's band, but I gotta admit, I bet that was pretty awesome opening for Emperor, not many bands can say that.

Didn't check out the merch, and there was no auto signing...if you had a VIP ticket..you just picked up your auto poster at the box office at the end of the show.

DARK USURPER, we didn't really get into details about it, it was really just a body language, tone of voice thing. I can't remember exactly what Ihsahn said, but I just got the impression it didn't look too strong. Not to mention that if he couldn't get cleared by now, odds were against anything happeneing in the next couple days, so...

As far as the autograph signing, couldn't say cause we came home today. But yesterday I recall that Emperor was signing the posters before and during soundcheck...I didn't really think they were actually doing it with the VIP ticket fans. They were just signing them at a table with the rest of us goobers in the off-limits area. Anyone who had VIP tickets feel free to correct me if I'm wrong on that. I wasn't officially on Emperor watch all afternoon ;)

Goddammit Heretik, don't tell me that cause we would have loved to have played tonight's show too!!!!!! ;)

I honestly didn't mind the shellacking we took on here leading up to the show. I understood (and still do) that Emperor fans are rabid fanatics for the band, and when you shell out 65 bucks you would expect the show of your life, and nobody on earth would be quite "worthy" of sharing that stage. I'm just as guilty of having skipped openers back in the day (and now karma comes to bite me ;) )

Thanks for the kind words, though, that's big of you, and appreciated. It was awesome, and the gravity of the event is not lost on me. Which is why after I blew two parts early on (which went largely unnoticed because my awesome bandmates covered for it soooooo well) I sat backstage for an hour after our set wishing there was a deep deep hole for me to crawl into. Luckily we did cover for it well enough that it sounded planned, even to our longtime fans who made the journey, and we did fairly well. So again, thanks. But now that we've smoked the peace pipe, you guys can go back to shitting on my band. Wouldn't want to create unbalance in the force
