My friends and I got baked and were going to movie hop into Jackass (none of us are 18...shit). Of course since Pennsylvania sucks there was a cop guarding the theater so we had to watch Easy A, which is what we actually got tickets for. Needless to say we were pissed but high so it didn't really matter.

Oh yeah and the movie sucked.

dunno. i expected a kinda low budget film but it turned out it wasn't (or they found some amazing bargains in the SFx department :)). technically it was quite excellent but overall a bit too artsy-fartsy imho and the ending was kinda "you've got to be kidding me"-type stuff... but i wasn't giving it my full attention 'cause i had other stuff to do so i'll have to rewatch it sometime. -/10 for now :)

Watched Resident Evil: Afterlife (IV) last night and if it wasn't for Milla I would have closed it after 20 mins in. Flimsy storyline, bad bad bad directing, poor camera work, so much bullettime that my brain was pourring tar through my eyes. The acting and fight scenes were so B-rate.
After that, re-watched the whole saga backwards, Extinction, Apocalypse, Fatal Experiment, and by comparision, damn, those movies were good, especially first (with michelle rodriguez <3) and 2nd.

Huge wtf at this. Amazing visuals and soundtrack, gruesome violence and boredom. Nonetheless, definitely worth watching.

I posted about "Mr Nobody" and "Valhalla rising" earlier in this thread. Both are arthouse movies. The former has a higher pace with plenty visual treats. The latter is kinda like Werner Herzog doing a slow-paced Tarkovsky movie.
Both are definitely recommended but not for the mainstream movie fans.

"slow-paced Takovsky", hahaha. I think that's a bit much. It's not as slow as "Solaris", for example. I also felt there wasn't as much going on in it as in some other slow-paced movies. I still did enjoy it and would definitely watch it on the big screen if I got the chance.

Also just saw this and found it fuckin' excellent, can't imagine good reasons for anyone not to like it, other than not liking it for the sake of it:

My only reason not to like that movie is Ben Affleck.

He puts me off ANY movie. Still haven't seen Goodwill Hunting.

How was he? The fucking cunt?

just saw this. i didn't think it was that boring (probably because thanks to the visuals and music i really got sucked into the atmosphere and enjoyed it quite a bit). my main complaint would be the quite awkward, stiff, mechanical acting (and often dialogues).

Finally saw this movie yesterday. It was excellent!
I've been a fan of Damon for awhile, and I think this is one of his best films.

@FecalFamine: I don't like Ben Affleck either, but his role in Good Will Hunting is fairly small..give the movie a shot!

I think Shadowhunter is right about having the experience of being emerged into the movie. Once you have that you won't get bored easily. Then there's the hidden layers which I might not even have breached but there was something brooding which gave the movie a good amount of tension.

Btw, I'd say that Bela Tarr's movies are even slower-paced than Tarkovsky's work. Anything slower than that might just be looking at a picture haha.

Affleck is fine, he's good in the town. Renner was way better though.

I don't post in this thread enough although I'm always watching movies. Here's what I've been watching in the past week or so.

Collateral:

Was pretty cool. Well written and executed.

Ong Bak 3:

Terrible. I mean I don't expect much from a martial arts movie but at least the first 2 were entertaining. If I'm going to watch Tony Jaa I don't want to sit through an hour of him acting as a cripple with an inner conflict.

Lawrence of Arabia:

A classic. The scale of this movie is ridiculous.

Get Him to the Greek:

This was actually really funny. I wasn't expecting much from it but I enjoyed it.

Dead Poets Society:

This film just really speaks to me. I know the message is quite simple and not exactly profound but it's still very relevant.

I think you're referring to his movie "Satantango" which is indeed 8 or 9 hours long. But his other movies, which are shorter, also have glacial paces which reflects real life in all its glorious boredom rather well.

I finally got around to watching "Winter's bone". Excellent flick.
