As for the drum programming... How the fuck do you do that, making it sound like a real kit?
I tried dfh2, I'm using it through Fruity Loops. But it sounds like shit. Maybe because I don't know how to use dfh that well, I only just got it... But even when you preload a complete kit with the auto settings, it just sounds terrible. And you can't play more than like 4 hits before it starts cancelling out some of the sounds... What am I doing wrong? Btw, KirkPetrucci, I thought that sounded great |

Okay, so I've got my guitar plugged into my modeling effects pedal (Korg AX10G,) then into my mixing PA (Kustom something-or-other) and then into my computer's line in port via the "Record Output" on the mixer, with an RCA-to-headphone-style wire. I get the tone right on the guitar, use the distortion and cabinet models on the effects pedal, and tweak the treble up on the mixer to get the mix sounding good through my headphones, which are plugged into the computer's headphone out port. Then I record against what I've already got in Reaper. With proper adjustment, I get it so the incoming mix on the guitar is not quite clipping, but close.
When I play the mix back, the guitar sounds flat and not as crunchy as it did through the headphones when it was going live. EQ adjustments just make it sound weirder. Is the problem the chain I'm using, or that I'm relying on the mixer to get the right sound, or what? I've experimented around with little success. |

hey bulb, i know this is a lot to ask, but could you maybe post a detailed list of the gear you use.
i'm looking to set up a computer based recording rig, but i've never used any computer based stuuf, i've only ever used hardware based set ups. i do have some knowledge of recording and mixing, just not the whole computer side of things. i want to do the drums with DFH, the guitars with a pod, the bass DId, possibly add vocals too and maybe some synth stuff. i've been searching all over the net to try and find stuff so i can have a set up like yours, then it suddenly dawned on me that you'd be the best person to ask about it lol. so far all i have is the computer, monitors, headphones, mics etc, but no software or interface or midi controller. i think i also need a sampler to run DFH. i'm not really sure about this, i play drums, but i've never programmed them. if you could give me some advice on this it would be great thanks Andy |

I don't know if this has been asked here(i had a quick ctrl+f look and didn't find it)...
What do you do to the snare and/or the whole drum mix to sound so yummy?? I mean is there some kind of secret compressor setting, or some kind of DFH thing...I'm using DFH2 and Adobe Audition to make me mixes... thanks in advance, stay bulbous! btw first post waheyyyyyyyyyyy |

i have had the fireBOX for a while now. I think its just the version down from the firepod, with a lot less pre-s. two questions: is that what you plug your pod xt into? does your firepod get real hot from being on? my firebox heats up like mad, although that might be intentional on their behalf . ![]() ![]() editssss: i also had a question about your tube screamer. i've read around on some posts on ss.org, but it all seems pretty confusings to me. ts7 ts9 ts808, all different kinds of mods... i found your post on ss.org about making a new screamer purchase, what did you ultimately decide on? whats the reasoning behind that? nowai, we just appropriated it, its the way meshuggah palm mute their power chords usually, but nowadays they dont really do powerchords a lot, so we are left being one of the few djentists out there!

So Meshuggah sold you the chord before releasing Nothing?
You guys are cheating though, with the dropped tuning and all! In all seriousness, I just got into your band yesterday, and I really like it.Which means a lot because I'm not into this kind of music.Might try to tab Insomnia out.I'm really impressed by the general audio quality of your songs!I heard you will release an EP soon, will probably purchase this. |

To Bulb or anyone who uses EZdrummer DFH.....
I currently don't have the program, but i am considering getting it. I think I see how it works, but i have some questions. Bulb, i see you have an M-audio Oxygen 8 (midi keyboard controller). Is this what you use for the EZdrummer DFH? I have reason 3.0 and i just wonder if EZdrummer is the same "press where you want the hit to be" type of program? Thanks to anyone who can give some insight on this..... |

do not check out born of osiris. they're fucking terrible. have nothing to do with meshuggah, or periphery, or even misery signals.
they're a terrible deathcore band from my area, and they're douchebags. |

QUESTION
bulbus how do you get youre vocals so crispy yet smooth? it seems like you boost a very high frequency for airiness, and the gain you use is so smooth, it nice. |

Hey Bulb,
I'm actually more of a bass player than guitarist, but play guitar as well...... I usually track with my Ernie ball Stingray, running a line direct (through my MXR M-80) and one line micing my SWR 6X10. I then mix the two signals for my bass record sound. I was just wondering how you track bass for your tunes? I'm guessing direct, but i wasn't sure if you use your podxt or not...... |

to be honest i dont do too much eqing to the vocals, my mike and singer seem to do most of the work haha, the vocals just tend to fit right in for some reason!
