Execration - Odes Of The Occult

Someone has been listening to Ulcerate! (and Immolation, Autopsy, Suffocation, and so on..?).

Looks like everything is thrown together, all the sudden an old school dm part?

I guess it is! How could you see that tho? Earlier record on the spotify. Which is more straight forward old school dm, but still good imo: http://open.spotify.com/artist/42qpYEkV8ntVLixBhmlPM9

best death metal cd I've heard this year. this is great. so many excellent riffs in a variety of styles (death, black, doom, etc.). the recording is raw enough to satisfy that old-school aesthetic but also packs that modern punch. hopefully this just gets better and better with multiple spins.

1:44 in "Grains" is so fucking siiiick.

does anybody know if you receive the DL code for the digital version right when you pay for the vinyl or it comes in the mail with the actual vinyl? i'd like to have a physical copy of this but i'd also like to hear it right now so...

I can't really remember, but this album has the bass high in the mix and they do have some independent bass lines.

There are two intermezzos, so maybe they weren't counting those.

No, it doesn't have that fuzz. The production is a bit clearer, but still raw and violent. The album is a bit doomier overall - more Autopsy and less Suffo this time. Both albums rule.

Don't understand how anyone can call this recording "raw".

Album is fucking great, one of the best this year imo.

Not many bands manage to come up with such eerily evil bits, I have to say. So much atmosphere.

"A Crutch for Consolation" and "Left in Scorn" are full of those moments. "Obsession" too.

I really love the way the bass guitar is able to dominant the mix since there's virtually no low end in the guitars at all. This is like night and day compared to the debut. So good.

Their use of two-part guitar writing is also rather clever... not so obvious, but all the more effective.
