Lou Reed & Metallica - LuLu

Most depressing thing ever. I say this because the second half of the album easily displays the best songwriting I've ever heard by Metallica. I honestly can't even believe that Metallica wrote it because it's that good. The song "Little Dog" musically sounds like it could have been straight off of The Eye of Every Storm. There's even 2 12 minute tracks and a 19 minute track. Oh, and there isn't a single guitar solo on the ENTIRE album. Probably the most impressive thing I can say about any of their albums.

That being said, Lou Reed completely ruins it with the most cringeworthy vocal performance and most retarded lyrics ever recorded.

Not even joking, I'm actually blown away by how good this album is musically, considering it's Metallica writing it.

EDIT: Maybe this is really just some sick joke.... the real version doesn't have Lou Reed on it at all and it's really just a Metallica album and Lars is just trolling everybody with this leaked version. (album has the word "lul" in the title, implying that Lars is lulzing at all of us right now.)

Srsly Lou Reed's vocals/lyrics on this album are like a giant "FUCK YOU" to art and sound.

Totally agree with OP. Awesome songs and some greats riffs here and there... but Lou totally destroyes it.

this is mind boggingly awful, I can't listen to more than a minute or two off each track. the 19min track starts out half decent and then goes into a verse that never ends for like 6 mins straight and then has a long ambient part which I actually enjoyed as lou reed's voice didn't ruin anything for once.

So yeah, my favorite part of the album is where no one is playing anything except for ambient keyboards and guitar sounds.

There's seriously some good parts on there musically. 2 post rock tracks, ruined by Lou Reed.

Little Dog and arguably Cheat on Me. If you were to take out Lou Reed's atrocious vocals, it's pretty good PR if you ask me.

Sans Lou Reed, Little Dog sounds like it could have been written by Steve von Till EASILY.

Also, main riff on "Dragon" is badass as hell and has an almost sludgey/doomy feel to it. I want Scott Kelly to have done vocals for this album and it would be quality stuff.

I just finished disc 1. "The View" is easily the worst song. Everything else has been a pleasant surprise.

Yes, most of Lou Reed's vocals sound out of place, if not completely irritating, but I think I can get used to them.

Also...WTF @ "Mistress Dread." Was shocked at how thrashy it was at the beginning, and then it just kept going and going. After a minute or two, I was shaking my head, but then by the end, I was almost mesmerized by it. The whole approach reminds me of droning black metal. Weird...

Redo this album with Scott Kelly on vocals.

I love how doomy this album is. Seriously. Did Metallica even write it? I want to know this...

Brandenburg Gate is def worse than the View -- which is deliciously doomy. Sounds like Mirror of Deception to me.

The new Metallica/Lou Reed sounds like Woody Allen talking on the phone at a Limp Biskit concert.

All I'll say here is this just as fucking atrocious as taking a sloppy, steaming dump and then someone else taking another sloppy dump on top of that dump and then finally someone taking a streaming piss all over the mess making it even more nauseating to be around.

This is pretty much completely abysmal, save for the 2 'ambient' tracks.

So I listened to it. How can you say this is the best you heard from Metallica? Do you even know Ride the Lightning? Cause it's a thousand times better than this snoozefest. Sure, there are some decent moments, but they are dragged out way too much. Especially "Little Dog"... this isn't even a song, just 8 minutes of messing around.

I have to say though that I respect Metallica for trying something different, and not just continue their style in mediocrity like many known bands do and did.

Also lol at this Lou Reed guy being successful, his voice is horrible.

If you think Call of Ktulu and Ride the Lightning are the only good songs you deserve to be kicked in the balls.

and he only wrote a couple of riffs used in those 2 songs (notably the intro to RtL and 1-2 riffs in CoK when it was still named When Hell Freezes Over)

In a world where some people make interesting music I find it funny that people continue to go back to Metallica. For the past 10+ years I have lumped them in the same category as Nickleback and Kid Rock

Well, he was in one of the most influential rock bands of all time. Never was the greatest singer, but still an important songwriter. It's rather surprising you've never heard of him.

^True that. He definitely did some innovative shit way back(didn't he use some weird guitar tuning?) and you got to give him credit for being a guest on the best Antony & The Johnsons song(just the lead and the spoken word at the beginning, but still hah):
