Idd, dialogues are insanely cliche, haven't seen anything this bad since idk, Under the Dome or something, script is on the same level, not moving anywhere, it feels like you are re-watching previous episodes, hollow melodramatic twists everywhere, rubbish as a whole. The second season was a strong indicator that the system will collapse sooner or later.

Eager to see how this will turn out, if nothing else it will surely be a visual tour de force, Sorentino is the man.

Re: Good TV Shows?

Sure, also if anyone is fond of Sorrentino be sure to try The Young Pope, he continues with grand scenery of The Great Beauty, the first two installments were unexpectedly quite humorous, Law is killing it so far.

Re: Good TV Shows?

Westworld s1 was a masterful piece of TV. Even before you knew all the twists and turns at the end, it was clear that the dialogue was loaded with thoughtful symbolism, allusions and foreshadowing. Every episode left you guessing and looking forward to the next reveals, and also clarified and made you think back on previous episodes.
Gotta watch it all again at some point. Season 2 is going to be sheer mayhem, but i'm not sure how they'll be able to match the intrigue generated in season 1.

Re: Good TV Shows?

I was totally hooked on WW for the first couple of episodes, then it got slightly stale for me, still a top notch TV for sure. Taboo is promising so far idd, I dig this dirty and mysterious image of Hardy a lot.

The first season of The Young Pope is the best TV series in years for me, best thing since Hannibal imo, drop dead gorgeous. Season 2 confirmed fapfap.

Re: Good TV Shows?

Westworld was indeed excellent. Mandatory viewing for everyone.

The Crown didn't get me hooked at first, but now that I've forced myself to watch it, I'm really enjoying it. If you needed proof that John Lithgow (3rd Rock from The Sun, Dexter) is an amazing actor, then watch it. I'm not familiar with everything he's done, but undoubtedly this has to be his best acting of his career.
Don't expect to get sucked in like Westworld, but just watch and enjoy.

The Fall, 3rd season (and last season), was as good as the other two. Mandatory viewing if you like the serial killer, thriller, detective drama type of show.

Halt and Catch Fire, 4th season, was pretty decent. I personally enjoyed it, but a lot of people seem to draw lines between seasons saying X season is slow, while Y season is very different from the rest. I don't see it, but whatever. If you haven't watched the series, give it a go, it's very good.

Why does Silicon Valley have to be considered a guilty pleasure? That show rules.

Re: Good TV Shows?

I wouldn't say it rules, but it's a solid 8.5/10. Richard's autism is kinda the weak point of the show

Westworld is the same rating but replace Richard with Maeve's storyline that is pretty shit

So wait, a show that has a completely different premise every episode is one dimensional because it has an overarching common thread?

Re: Good TV Shows?

I loved the first two seasons but other than the virtual reality horror episode of season 3 I felt the writing lacking. If you look at the Christmas Special episode, the X-Factor episode and the criminal repeatedly living the same reality from the earlier seasons you'll see already themes bleeding into each other - mob justice, the gross retardation of the masses, technology, memetics etc.

Charlie Brooker is one of our best satirists, but with season 3 he definitely found a comfort zone when the first two seasons approached love, loss, grief, exploitation, oppression far more convincingly, from multiple angles - I couldn't finish the one about zombies or drones purely because the premise was going to be so predictably concluded.

Recently I finished The Fall and S3 was really, really good, a great finish after the dross that was S2.

Gave Broadchurch a go too and while the characters were only semi-believable and they had lines that were so clearly advancing an otherwise jagged and clumsy plot, it was a good red-herring series with verging on sublime acting.

i thought the VR episode was meh. im sure they intended the guy to be annoyingly chatty to juxtapose with the torment he faced, but I thought it was gratuitous.

Re: Good TV Shows?

Halt and Catch Fire is the only thing I've watched in the last few years. I liked it, although the last few episodes of season 3 were kinda... clunky, mostly because of the sudden jump a couple years down the timeline, where Mutiny has since gone under, Gordon and Donna have split, and Cameron has been doing her thing in Japan. All the troubles and crises of the previous episodes are simply hand-waved away because of this, seemingly saying "nope, none of it worked out after all, the whole thing went to shit, and everyone just wasted hours of their lives watching this and waiting for a conclusion to all the problems the characters have been trying to overcome. Haha!"

Re: Good TV Shows?

Not surprising, the amount of cameos on it was insane, not sure what was his plan to cover the costs with the web series format. Done with it and it was great indeed, didn't expect it to be so dark tho, I may even prefer it over Louie.

Done with the first 2 seasons (1 left) of "The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret" (short seasons, 6x20 min), some big chuckles, edgy abortion/race/pedo/... humor, on moments slightly underwhelming and repetitive, but a good watch to kill couple of hours. Still waiting for that Muslim/Gay/Nazi scene, to put it into context.

Re: Good TV Shows?

Devoured the two seasons of Fortitude in a week. Not perfect by any means, but the scenery, acting and score (Ben Frost) is incredible. Michael Gambon, running around some Icelandic hardcore gig, waving a lit piece of paper; just one of the many surreal as fuck scenes. The scenes between Stanley Tucci and Richard Dormer are some of the best you'll see.

About to start Gomorrah.
