Waltz with Bashir

This movie is about events that occurred during the Lebanese civil war when Israel began moving into Lebanese territory, particularly as they were approaching Beirut. An ex-Israeli soldier is having recurring nightmares, and in an effort to find help he seeks out some of his ex-IDF friends to ask them if they have been experiencing the same things.

His dreams circulate around an event that occurred during the war, the massacre at Sabra and Shatila, when thousands of Palestinian refugees (non-combatants) were slaughtered by Christian Phalangist forces in a retaliation effort for the assassination of Bashir Gemayel; this was done under the watch of IDF forces. Ariel Sharon was implicated by an Israeli committee for having allowed the massacre to occur, and was forced to resign.

The movie is animated much like A Scanner Darkly, is very well written, and adds to the sentiments many Israeli's had after leaving Lebanon, which is that they were not sure what they were doing there and what they even accomplished. Great, great movie, even if you don't know much about the war.

Downfall

Based around the last week or so of Hitler's life. Great acting, some memorable scenes (when the children are put to sleep), and I like that it's a WWII movie from a non-Allied perspective. It is in German with English subtitles.

I watched a Canadian film called Passenger Side in the plane. Pretty good shit. Adam Scott is in it, so if you liked his character in Party Down, definitely check it out.

^Yes. You should. I'd say it's 80% positive reviews so far from every where I've seen, and I can tell you that you won't be disappointed, instead intelligently entertained.
