The Disaster Artist - 7/10. Laughed a few times at Tommy's turbo autism

Annihilation - 7/10. Solid visuals, decent storyline. Few cringe as shit moments

Been dying to see this new Nicolas Cage movie "Mandy" that apparently was a hit a Sundance, which was quite a while ago. Been looking for it ever since but can't find it... Anyone know what's going on there?

Hereditary - absolutely unnerving. Wish De Profundis would see it.

Hereditary was incredible. Genuinely gave me anxiety and I couldn’t sleep at all when I got home. I’m a sucker for occultism, mysticism, esotericism, and neoplatonism so when I saw the symbol of Paimon, I was probably the only weirdo in the theater that recognized that on the mother’s necklace at the funeral. I kept having an eerie feeling that the blonde smiling guy at the end was staring over me the entire night when I got home.

Re: The Film Thread---Movies you recently watched

Cant wait to see it. I heard a lot of normies are bashing it, just like they did with The Witch and It Comes at Night, so you know its gonna be huge.

I am also stoked to see Mandy, its gonna be a visual tour de force and probably refreshing seeing Cage in something good after couple of years. If you (Lich) are referring to the pirating scene, its not out yet, idk about the theaters tho.

Another flick I am sweating to see:

New Noe could also be a nice surprise after his latest flop Love...I would prefer he would stylistically/thematically go back to the old days tho, something similar to I Stand Alone would be monumental

I definitely wanna see that Hereditary movie, but It Comes At Night was just so shit... I forgot about it instantly after seeing it. Maybe I did it wrong!

Good to know it isn't out yet and it's not my incompetence at the internets for once.

Same here! Absolute sucker!

The sound really helped with the suspense.

at first there was this pulsating beat that i thought was coming from the next theater but i realized it was coming from the movie. Then it reminded me the sound of my heart when i hold my breath under water.

also - did you notice the sounds at the end when he gets crowned? The trumpets and shimmering sound - i'm so glad the movie got that right.

They’re complete utter faggots. This is why we can’t have nice things. Horror movie fans mostly are fucking retarded. They go into a horror film like The Witch with arms crossed, unimpressed, “that didn’t scare me”. Horror isn’t about scares it’s about anxiety and it takes time to build that anxiety. All horror films are essentially the same plot(a family being terrorized by a vaporous malevolent entity, be it supernatural or psychological), it’s just a matter of execution. True horror is manifested by anxiety not by scares. Scary is just a monster, but once you know bullets can kill it or it’s explained, it ceases to become scary. Anxiety is much more patient and it slowly sinks it’s fangs into you, once you notice it’s already too late. It lingers far beyond the credits and you take it home with you.

But yeah Hereditary was fucking incredible will see it again today

Yeah i was incredibly annoyed that my friend "Oh man I'm glad that wasn't a horror movie but an art movie."

i simply replied "I'm glad that it didn't scare you because it scared the shit out of me."

i went to bed looking my corners of my room and moving things further away from me.

the movie basically gave me a headache because i was anxious throughout.

haven't seen "It Comes At Night" but i absolutely LOVE "The VVitch." one of my favorite movies in a while next to "Blue Ruin"

I thought The Witch was decent, I agree with Lichtbringer about It Comes At Night though. What a steaming pile of shit that movie ended up being.

Re: The Film Thread---Movies you recently watched

So here we go, the trailer is out. Mixed feelings about those Hellraiser lite monsters, this aspect gives me an impression of a slasher dredged into neon lights, but yea, surely it will be much more than that, its definitely gonna be a lot busier than Beyond the Black Rainbow.

Not entirely without merits, but so boring and overlong you stop caring about whatever point it's trying to make (I suppose there is one).

Re: The Film Thread---Movies you recently watched

The little Korean girl, the stupid CGI-pig and a few gorgeously shot scenes were the best parts about this movie. Reviews say the movie juggles tones well, but it doesn't, the comedy falls flat, the heist elements are boring and tacked on and all the hollywood actors are grating beyond belief.

Pretty much what you'd expect from Soderbergh, solid stuff. Quite impressive it's entirely shot on an iphone, I guess.

Highly absurd, but loads of stylishly shot violent fun.

Re: The Film Thread---Movies you recently watched

Hereditary was great, actually saw it twice. Best American horror in...what was the last great american horror film? It follows was super average and the Witch was just pretty good. Toni Collette absolutely killed it in this film. I give it 9/10, saw the Incredibles 2 and it was 7.5/10.

Triple Threat

Pretty much the Asian version of The Expendables. The story isn’t great but it’s basically nonstop action. Worth a watch

Here’s the cast:

Tony Jaa (Ong Bak/The Protector)
Iko Uwais (The Raid)
Tiger Chen (The Matrix, Crouching Tiger, Man of Tai Chi)
Michael Jai White (Spawn, Black Dynamite)
Scott Adkins (bunch of B fighting movies)

I couldn't get into Midsommar. It's extremely well done and the soundscapes/OST are unbelievably good, but I wasn't disturbed or touched by it in any way. The terrible acting from the male protagonist was extremely distracting as well.

To each their own, though. Hereditary blew me away and instantly became a lifetime favorite.

Just watched Hereditary. Aight, it was pretty dang good. However, I was expecting monumental greatness the way everyone was talking about it. Granted, I like the twists that kept this from being just another "paranormal" film. Though, I don't know. I think I might have liked this a bit more had I not seen what everyone thought about it (if that makes sense).

Yeah, I went into Hereditary without any trailers or reviews, and I just loved every moment. The way everything unravels had me on the edge of my seat the whole time. I've seen people complain about the ending, but I thought it was simultaneously perfectly logical and super mystical, and shot it up to the transcendental level that the tone bordered throughout the movie.

First time in a long time that I couldn't shake a movie out of my head for days after watching.
