I just saw Kickass 2. I thought it was awesome. Plenty of laughs and some crazy gory kills. And it's a true spectacle to see Mother Russia's path of devastation. Jim Carrey was fun too. It's tanking at the box office, so I definitely recommend going and seeing it if you liked the original.

Finally saw star trek into darkness... blew me away. Definitely my favorite of 2013 so far, not to mention the cgi was probably the best I've ever seen in a movie.

A friend of mine produced this movie. It's apparently doing really well in International Film Fests.
EDIT: sorry about the size

Gasland (2010)

and Gasland 2 (2013)

The documentaries themselves are pretty well edited and entertaining. The narrator/writer/director guy is pretty funny, he sprinkles in some dry humour here and there.
The content of the docos really ruffled my jimmies. If you want to get mad at how bought off the US govt is, then watch these.

I second this. Good call on Turin Horse. Also have been really interested in seeing The Act of Killing. Sounds about as happy as Auschwitz

I read that the Director some-how managed to get the actual generals and soldiers who carried out the massacres and mayhem to RE-ENACT their crimes. Crazy fucker.

Motherfuckers, did no one see that I posted a little bleb about The Act of Killing one or two pages ago? hahaha.

Also, I tried to watch The Turin Horse, but was totally not in the mood for it and it was sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo drawwwwwwwwwwwwwnnnnnnnnnn ouuuuuuuuuuuttttttttttttttttt.

Looked pretty pretty though, will have to revisit in a more zen state of mind for sure.

Re: The Film Thread---Movies you recently watched

Fatherfucking shit, I totally missed that. Pathological narcissism kicks in sometimes, I'm afraid.

Well, to lighten up the mood and to confirm that we're not extinct just yet, I want to see Tawd B Dorenfeld's new Jewmotion movie:

See the slick-flick trailer:

Unfortunately, it seems no major distributes have picked this up - and so it seems that what looks like a brilliant and light-hearted movie, won't get to play all over the world in a theater near you.

But be sure to check out: http://www.polymorphproductions.com/
And there is a chance it could be released on DVD one day. All good things to those who wait. Unless, of course, we all manage to somehow get ourselves exterminated before then.

Be sure to also check out Dorenfeld's other movies:

Anna Cabrini Chronicles is one of my favorite movies of all time. One of those movies you truly appreciate when you're feeling outcast from the world, drowsy sitting locked-in in a cold, dark and moldy concrete room with nothing but raw potatoes to eat and a bottle of water to drink.

But that doesn't suggest there is no hope left.

It's also a beautiful trip, where angels spread their sonic colors in the air and let the sound brush your ears and dazzle you into a state of elated tranquility. A movie that cares deeply for its characters, it expresses the tearing of a mind beside itself. Dorenfeld is not reducing us to nil, or bringing the world to its knees. Despite its subject matter, watching Anna Cabrini Chronicles is a cathartic experience, and surely in the darkness we hear angels and catch a glimpse of the fruitful garden in the horizon - we know there is hope, and there is a light to walk towards to to crawl out of the darkness that devoured us.

Live.

Live, and search inside yourself for your inner light, and fill up with truth.

If you can get it on DVD off the site, I recommend that you do that. I bought my copy off of Ebay 1 year ago. I'm sure there are people on here that have seen it, though. Being as its soundtrack is music from Secret Chiefs 3 albums, and they have fans a little bit there and overwhere.

^ I watched this a couple of months ago. Great use of color and the sets were beautiful. Kinda got a Jodorowsky vibe from it I guess. Except I didn't find it as engaging as any of his stuff.

Re: The Film Thread---Movies you recently watched

I have generally been indulging more in xenophilia these past couple of years. Yeah, like so many others, I had been jerking myself off with the illusion that I was somehow getting deeper below the surface - but I realized later that wasn't the case. Fucking lier I was! I was really just giving in to my low-level exotic fetischism, jerking off and cumming day and night to my limited and vague perception of grace of other cultures - fucking indirect orientalism.

I admit I am a lesser being, limited by my low intelligence and non-existent intellect. But, still, there is a voice there that draws me to these things. It comes to me in my dreams, and I can hear it as a distant crescendo. Look at the world - do you see it? I see. I see. What a wondrous world it is - sorrowful and grim, elusive and marvelous.

So perhaps that's why I am drawn to things that are beyond my ability to comprehend.

---

By the way, I also finally watched the much talked about cult-status gem:

It made me feel good still being a virgin and all...

Re: The Film Thread---Movies you recently watched

Personally, I like Sonatine the most. But Dolls comes in right after, and then Kikujiro. I was also entertained by the Outrage movies, although they are sillier than most stuff he has done. Kitano is a grown-up little kid, and I can relate to that.

I just watched:

It made it harder to romanticize the olden days, you know... But what a fucking heavy ass piece of middle-ages cinematic experience.

And continuing on my Zulawski trip:

Re: The Film Thread---Movies you recently watched

By the way, I am also looking for poetic and beautiful homoerotic movies that you can romantically masturbate to.

And I'm not talking about the kinds where men fuck each other in their assholes with robotic fists of iron until they shit blood on each other and jerk off their tentacle-cocks until they cum acid in each others faces and die horrible and deformed deaths in a cesspool of nuclear waste and eroded human liquids.

I'm talking about something in the style of Jack Smith, Jean Genet, Nagisa Oshima and Maria Beatty movies. Something sensational, poetic and psychologically demanding that you can lightly start fingerbrushing your right nipple to and get a healthy erection while it challenges all your senses.

Yeah, Sonatine is probably my favorite. Need to watch Hana-Bi again, too bad that New Yorker DVD is OOP and so expensive. I also have Kikujiro sitting around and needing to be watched.

Re: The Film Thread---Movies you recently watched

Speaking of Japanese movies...

I can't scream and bang on the walls during nighttime without alarming the neighbors, so I put this on and it has a therapeutic effect on me - this childish, innocent piece of Trash Cinema. Tsukamoto is good at that stuff, that little old fellow.

The Japanese - in a sense we are so connected with them; in another sense, our minds are so far apart. I wonder if they ever think of us the same way...

Re: The Film Thread---Movies you recently watched

Yeah, I like the first Tetsuo flick - I still think it's the best movie Tsukamoto has done. I also dig Tokyo Fist, Snake of June and Vital, because they're fun and entertaining movies.

The image is of Cocco portraying the character of Kotoko, which is also the title of the movie.

I've seen Strange Circus. I thought it was alright, like most of Sono's movies. When it comes to doing satire and depicting dysfunctional Japanese families, I much prefer Visitor Q over most other stuff. Man, that movie still gets me...

Sion Sono is a goofy little guy, though - he makes these perky but sort of shrewd pop-movies where he purposely draws upon Japanese genre cinema, and I think the results are often delightful if you can find your inner kiddie and appreciate that sort of queer pertness. I think it seems as if this new movie of his that just came out is his way of creating a spectacle where he refers to his own process and very delicately makes fun of it. But I like those older Japanese dudes making these pop-culture flicks. Tetsuya Nakashima is another one.

Land of Hope just came out on DVD yesterday. I might check it out. I didn't quite like Himizu, although it had some moments in it that moved me. I thought the idea was cool, but the execution was generally clumsy.
