The Appleseed Cast - Illumination Ritual (2013)

This record is fantastic. I was really surprised with the drumming, especially. As much as I loved Sagarmatha, I found the drumming on the boring side after the kind of stuff Cobra did, but the newer guy has really stepped it up.

A lot of his drumming actually reminds me of Mare Vitalis-era Cobra drumming, actually. This may be my favourite thing they've done, in a while...and you can stream the album on Pitchfork!

It's very post-rockish, but not really in a Low Level Owl kind of way. It's a lot more energetic, like they said it would be, which is why I made the Mare Vitalis comparison, I guess. This also reminds me a lot of Two Conversatioins-era ASC.

Man, this band always has such strong openers. This one doesn't hit as hard in the end like "As The Little Things Go" did, but it's still sick...and it goes so well into the next track. This albums flows really well.

In case you're too lazy to look...

I have it, if anyone wants the vinyl download thing or whatever. I saw them last week, they crushed so hard. Their new drummer is so on point, he rips without ever changing his facial expression. Vuk, its weird that you say it's post rockish, because I'm getting much more of an emo feel from this than their last few releases. Either way, I'd say its hands down their best since LLO. Probably my favorite album in the last year.

Oh no, for them it's definitely more emo. Especially, in comparison to the last few things they've put out. I just meant, in terms of emo in general, it's more post rock-ish...although, I guess that's just ASC.

And wait. Do they have a new-new drummer? Or do you just mean the guy they've had since Cobra? I found dis shit on Soulseek, and I can't wait to listen to it without that shitty Pitchfork streaming thing.

I need to listen to the new Mike Kinsella thing too. If y'all are into the jangly emo thing, check this out. Good stuff from Toronto...
