Haven't seen it yet because it's only available through bootlegs. How'd you get a hold of it? To my knowledge Warner Bros. has refused for years to release an uncut DVD. Although, I'm currently taking a class on Ken Russell and we are screening that and my professor claims to have a legit DVD (with the "rape of Christ" scene no less), so I guess there are some "complete" versions out there.

Pretty sad...in the end he seems so far beyond repair........... I'm not sure why it was marketed as a comedy (or drama-dy or whatever)
The scenes with his remote controlled airplne buddy were great. Could see a little black humor there.

Probably too amusing to be really dark, but has some of the best visuals ever. If you've ever watched some Discovery Channel-type documentary on witches, chances are, they used some stock footage from this movie for depictions of the black mass and orgies.

This one's pretty dark, even though it's just made up of detective movie and occult movie cliches with a pretty guessable surprise ending (if you've seen enough of these types of thrillers):

Someone mentioned this movie earlier in the thread:

Don't know how hard it is to come by on DVD. I know Warner Bros. hasn't yet ever licensed an uncut DVD release, but there are apparently various uncut versions flying around. I imagine they are all bootleg jobs to some degree.

Also, this is pretty dark in a blackly humorous fever dream sort of way:

The marionettes will annoy the shit out of you (which may be the point), but all the stop-motion sequences are freaky and awesome.

Not at all. It's been a while since I've seen Angel Heart. From what I remember it's pretty bleak, though certainly not the greatest of movies. I remember liking the atmosphere though.

I'm actually kind of stumped with this question because I can't think of too many occult movies I've seen that are actually scary and outright horrific. All the ones I've posted are somewhat campy or blackly comedic.

I'll take Polanski/Von Trier esque stuff.

I dig Noir films too, so if there's anything there you can think of...

I have a 110 minute .avi file of it. Not sure which version it's ripped from.

Horrible horrible film, probably the most overrated film of this genre ever.

This was worse than the August Underground movies haha.

Check Fritz Lang's Scarlett Street and Carol Reed's The Third Man. Both are darker (especially Scarlett Street) than most of the other classic films noir.

Still need to see Night and the City, Double Indemnity, The Big Sleep, Kiss Me Deadly.

I assume you've seen Chinatown.

I've seen a ton of Polanski, but Chinatown is rotting on my hard drive.

Just watched Der Untergang/Downfall, and I don't know how I feel about it.

On one hand it is a somewhat new approach to a Nazi movie in regards to a direct Hitler perspective but at the same time I felt like the guys who went into Titantic not knowing it was more about the love triangle than the actual Titantic shipwreck. Maybe I need a few more watches to fully appreciate it but I definitely enjoyed it.

I watched it for the first time a couple weeks ago and I can say I liked it, didn't love it. The actor who played Hitler was awesome and there were times when I even felt sympathy for him until I remembered that it was Hitler.

Bruno Ganz is a great actor. He's also in Wim Wenders' Wings of Desire (Himmel Uber Berlin) and Herzog's remake of Nosferatu.

Haha yeah there were times where I caught myself going "someone give that man a hug...wait...nevermind."

Has anyone seen Black Book?

So instead of passing out last night I saw American Pie 2 was on and had a wicked case of nostalgia and this movie came on after it and it killed me.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1135985/

Think something along the lines of Superbad, so if you don't think dick and fag jokes are funny this isn't your cup of tea. It has a shitload of cameos in it like Seth Green, David Koechner, Brian Posehn etc and the chick in it is fucking hot.

mmmmmm.

Yeah, Amanda Crew is so hot in that movie. Sex Drive surprised me. It didn't really have any expectations because I never heard any feedback but it had me laughing pretty much through out the whole movie. Super Bad is a good movie to compare it to.

Also, the unrated version is actually worth a check out. There's a bunch of naked chicks edited into random scenes of the film, the extended scenes are added and there's even some random bloopers.

Maybe not dark/occult but eerie and mysterious.

Oh yeah totally, I read the info on it and was like "here comes another shitty low budget teen movie" and that proved me wrong by the first scene. Really fun movie and seeing Cyclops act like a bro was great by itself.

Not sure what you mean. Her vocal tracks = her shouting? Better watch it in Dutch with English subs.
It's a good movie but a bit too long and nothing out of the ordinary. But Carice is a great actress, regardless of her many nude scenes. I've yet to see a Dutch movie with her that disappoints me in terms of her acting.
She had a relationship with the nazi (played by Sebastian Koch) she also gets involved with in the movie. But apparently they broke up over last summer or something.
When this break up hit the Dutch news channels Carice received many marriage proposals hahaha.
