I thought John's performance with Gorguts on the last tour i saw with Portal was amazing, he really showed a different style behind the kit in terms of rudimental fills and patterns than he does in Origin. However, as amazing of a drummer John is, he still doesnt fit for EVERY project. I loved Skinless' "From Sacrifice Through Survival", the drums were killer, but it didnt represent the classic Skinless sound that Bob brings to the table.

Yes, i always felt pretty much like that, but the album came out really refined and tasty. It wasn't overkill. Hope Keyser is gonna stick with Origin far longer than John stayed with Skinless lol. In the absence of Lee, they need the best they can get (not some random mediocre guy like Cryptopsy did)

As for Longstreth in Gorguts.. that was a really special, interesting and perhaps not so conventional idea. To have this incredible hyperblasting guy do all sorts of diverse things and at the same time keeping it all tight and clean. Like a head on collision between avantgarde and extreme. That jam video was so tasty. Regular proggy drummers are everywhere to be found.. I'm not sure choosing some well versed drum wizard would be such an original thing to do.

its too bad they didn't just wait to record the new album with this guy instead, not that the vocals on Entity are bad or anything. as far as Longstreth leaving Gorguts I don't believe that has been confirmed so its all just speculation at this point...

Lee's timing is great and his high screams are crazy. Jason surely has the better stage presence, but it doesn't matter much to me because I'm usually just staring at the bassist with my jaw dropped

Edit - How is the Face of Oblivion album? Didn't know it was released...

i totally agree. even with my argument about John, From Sacrifice to Survival is still one of my favorites. im sure its mostly because in a drummer myself and a huge fan of Johns work, but i always loved the style that Beaulac and Webber brought to the table and was happy to see Bob come back for their last album. always loved Skinless' more crushingly heavy mid-paced brutality the most, but i pay attention to the drums more than anything and Longstreth really makes the difference worth it.

Have you heard Jason's highs on the final Skinless album? They're outstanding.
