"Down in the Hole" by Alice in Chains. 'Nuff said. And it's NOT too new to cover, Layne has passed on, it's a PERFECT time to do it. [SIZE=3]

Oyster I'm with you on the Waylon tunes dude, I would also like to do a Kansas cover, and I would love to do an AIC cover, because when I heard them for the first time, I decided I was gonna sing. That being said ,the rest of this shit is all your fault!!!!!!

Down wit Waylon

We need to quit fuckin' off. If we had that "Good ol' Boys" cover rehearsed, we might be able to get it on the soundtrack for the new Dukes of Hazzard movie.

I think AIC is a good idea, especially considering Layne's passing. "Down in a Hole" is a great tune. The entire Dirt album is great. It is only 12 years old, though.

I'm gonna say it again: BÖC's "Don't Fear The Reaper".

Thanks for the support.

We don't know what kind of music we are, either. We are currently in pre-production of our up-and-coming album and hopefully you will forget about genres and listen to it with an open mind, if for no other reason, than just to hear Jack shine on guitar.

AIC

We actually worked on "Down In A Hole" the other day and opted not to do it after all. There are a lot of textures and great vocal harmonies in that song; however, it is so distinct, there is not much we can offer to it. It would pretty much sound identical to the original with the exception of maybe the tonalities of our voices.

The idea of a cover song is off until we finish the album. That is not to say people should still post their opinions because we might do one someday. We wanted to do "Simple Man" from Skynyrd but Shinedown beat us to the punch.

Well personally, coming from my mouth, I think cover songs are actually some of the coolest things a band can add to their repertoire.

I mean, those damn Japanese get 'em all the time in their "special releases" - I think global audiences could do with a treat! It really shows the broad capabilities of a band as well when they can bust out those "old favourites".

Not to detract from what Michael posted, Adrift IS actually still looking to do a cover for our record. It is just that our focus right now is on pre-production of the full-length, and that we have not been putting the time into determination of the proper cover song. To echo what Michael said, however, we want the "right" cover, one we can do justice to, and one which fans will love, without being too kitschy, campy, or obscure. AIC was a real front-runner, but after messing with it, the song does not need to be covered, and Michael is dead right: what could we do to "Down in a Hole" that would make it more emotional? More bare? More honest, sincere, moody? Short answer, nothing. Long answer, nooooooooooothing.

Jack and I have been toying with "Everybody Wants You" by Billy Squier, which would be a fun song to play (although I still have to lean towards "The Stroke" as my fave BS tune).

Keep suggesting, you crazy cats (and kittens)!!

How about..and I'm serious..a rap song?

Yea, you heard me - Get some Justin Timberlake fused with some Adrift ferocity.

I've personally always thought that 'We're in Heaven' song would be a badass metal song to cover - I know of these songs due to my college life - Please don't associate techno with me ;/ - But it IS a really good tune regardless.

OK fine..the rap thing was obviously uber-homosexual

I'm still going to forcefully push for a Judas Priest, or a damn 80's hair metal song !

No pun intended with the homosexual/JP reference..err..

Überhomosexual is as good a word as nanofuck.

What Kevin said. I just don't want to push it.

sIN: You do not fringe on the homosexual when suggesting rap. I have possessed a fairly extensive collection of hip-hop from Grandmaster Flash to Whodini down to modern day dogs like Snoop n' M, fo' reaaal, biz-sizzle-snatch. Yo, yo, yo, Mary J's gotta cool groove and Missy E's pretty phat, too. The greatest strength of English, for you Ebonics haters, and the reason it is spoken in every country around the world that is not indigenous, is its "shapely ambiguity" or its ability to absorb and assimilate every culture...

Kevin is very fond of the song "The Stroke" because it is metaphorically stabbing at masturbation. It was also the first song I played on stage, albeit I was lipsynching with a guitar because it was third grade. I am doin' my best to make a metaphysical connection here...

We should have jumped on "Simple Man" when it was fresh before Shinedown did it. But maybe we thought of it at the same time...maybe there is a universal consciousness...?

This is where the wine has taken me...

A rap tune would be cool.

Heh, that would be hilarious for them to cover Six Feet Under--Jack Owen thought that Chris Barnes sucked and kicked him out then his newer band covered SFU. The irony. As for a cover song, I have no fucking clue. Do a Mayhem song. Something off of Grand Declaration of War wouldn't be too extreme. Haha...what a horrible idea.

Fisting, we are gonna do a cover of Cannibal Corpse's "I Cum Blood," but as a power ballad, with a guest rap-rocker and a chick for back-ups a la Amy Lee or Christina from Lacuna Coil.

Um, okay, no we're not (and that would be the GAYEST shit ever!). But that WOULD set the music world's loins aflame, don't you think?

Hmmm...setting the music world's loins aflame. I like the sound of that. Go for it!
I CUM BLOOOOOOOD! FROM MY ERECTION!!! I FEEL IT RUN DOWN HER THROAT!
Then the rock-rapper can be all like, "Yo bitch, my semen be bleedin' up in dis hizzle fo shizzle. Da smell of decay be seepin' from her snatch. I pissed in dat bitch's maggot-filled booty."

Genius in its purest form. Hahaha.

Vehemence, the video for "Empty Dreams," shot and directed by Gary Schutt of Jeff Scott Soto (Yngwie's good old stuff) fame is available for download at the Adrift website, at www.adrift.cc/videos.shtml.

There are two sizes, a small one in WM format, with hugely reduced framerate and sound quality (not recommended unless you are on dial-up), and a QT 44 Meg file, which looks and sounds good. When you click on them, the download begins, but nothing appears to happen until the download is complete, so DO NOT click on it again or it will begin the download over again.

ENJOY!!

Saw the Blabbermouth post, cool! The dates are booked! You guys have said that you were gonna do a full CD, but never put when or whatever. Mark me down for one.

How about an old Motley Crue cover. A good old song, like "Knock Em Dead Kid" or "Bastard"? Or maybe some Hendrix. I know its been done alot, but you could put your spin on it and give Jack an excuse to solo!

Or you could piss people off and do a Hootie and the Blowfish cover and heavy it up.

several suggestions for cover songs

Well, I know I was the one who posted a negative post about Adrift but believe it or not, I have several ideas for a cover song on the album. They are:

Crosby Stills Nash: Southern Cross
The Beatles: Let It Be
John Fogerty: Old Man Down The Road
The Moody Blues: Nights In White Satin
The Who: Squeeze Box
John Lennon: Mind Games
George Harrison: Got My Mind Set On You
Neil Young: Keep On Rockin In The Free World
Ringo Starr: It Don't Come Easy
Rainbow: Stone Cold
Crosby, Stills, Nash, & Young: Our House
Lou Reed: Walk On The Wild Side

In my opinion, those would make great cover songs. I would strongly reccommend Southern Cross cause I think that would be a great song to cover. By the way, I'm going to start giving Adrift another chance. Who knows? I just might like em.

Heh...the whole reason Jack left CC is because he got sick of playing the same death metal stuff over and over. I doubt he'd be up for some I Cum Blood. Although I would like to see it as well. I wonder if Marq could pull the vocals off well. SHE TURNED A PUTRID YELLOW! I PISSED IN HER MAGGOT-FILLED ASSHOLE! That is true fucking music right there.
