Essential Albums/EPs

Don't post shit that everybody already knows about (DSotM) and only post albums that are in your eyes PERFECT, not just albums you really enjoy. Include download links too if you want. Hopefully we can discover some cool shit, I'm gonna download everything in this thread.

http://www.mediafire.com/?tnggmfkjtm0

Some of the most emotional music I've ever heard.

http://www.mediafire.com/?ztyd3zmbjtm

Kinda goes against what I first said in this post but if you haven't heard this get it immediately. Made me realize how powerful music can be.

The Jesus Lizard - Liar

this album is already 18 years old. it makes me want to drunkenly tear my house apart, all the while pissing and shitting everywhere. David Yow's vocal delivery is so perfect in every song.

I discovered this album last year, posted it here, and it didn't get much attention. It is fucking perfect and one of the most beautiful albums I've ever heard:

A Northern Chorus - Bitter Hands Resign

Just be patient with it...

These Arms Are Snakes - This Is Meant To Hurt You

Even though everything else this band has released is decent, at best, this EP is truly amazing. Raw, but with experimentation, and really dark.

Rome - Masse Mensch Material

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=GL3ULGRR

Can't stress enough, how good this band is. It's the most epic music that isn't metal, and Jerome Reuter is easily the greatest modern lyricist. It's modern music, that doesn't sound modern, haha...if that makes sense...

I'll probably get flamed for this post, but frankly, I don't give a fuck.

I don't listen to much music that has elements of metalcore, but this album transcends genres for me. Metal, prog, post rock and the layering of those and other genres throughout the songs amazes me with every listen. Upon first listen, the vocals were a little overwhelming, but then it became clear to me that they fit amazingly with the music. I find the songs to be amazingly cohesive within themselves, despite the varied nature of them....and it's probably because the drumming is wayyyyy too fluid (yet rich with technicality, but not lacking emotion). The production is also perfect--supremely clear, yet seems to bring the songs into a dreamlike state.

Circle Takes The Square - As The Roots Undo...best "screamo" album I've heard but it goes so far beyond that label as there is nothing else that sounds like CttS. One of the best bands at mixing chaos with beauty. Vocals could be a turn off to someone that doesn't like this type of music but it's a must listen for anybody that does.

Cursed - I ...I know mostly everyone here knows them but this is THE hardcore band to get into. I's probably my favorite album too. Full of passionate anger and intensity.

This Will Destroy You - Young Mountain EP...Some of the most moving post-rock I've ever heard and it never gets dull. I think a lot of the more recent post-rock bands have been trying to copy TWID's atmosphere but never really pull it off. That opening piano note on Quiet sends chills down my spine every time.

Texas is the Reason - Do You Know Who You Are?... The best 90's emo album and band, they almost verge on post-hardcore. Emotion without sounding cheesy, these guys could write some of the best guitar riffs and hooks.

Logh | North

I've mentioned this album a total of like 80 times on this forum but here we go again. Maybe the most depressingly beautiful recording I've ever heard. Consistently blows me away at how this album can bring me down yet I remain content with the mood it puts me in. "Weather Island" is in my top 10 songs of all time.

----------

Novembre | The Blue

The most under-appreciated melodeath band ever. Opeth are great as well as Agalloch but please give this CD a fucking chance. Every song has heart-wrenching melodies. Some of the most emotional music I've ever heard is on this record. It's also extremely atmospheric and spacy for this style of music. Amazing.

I don't care if you know it or not....the atmosphere on this album is unbelievable. I listened to this a 4 months straight when it came out. Awesome winter album, too.

Nine Inch Nails - The Fragile: A flawless mix of aggression, emotion, and originality. Post-Industrial epics, ambient soundscapes, and clawing instrumentals, make up this 2 disc album. Relentless muscianship from Reznor as well as perfectionist production make this introspective well worth the 104 minutes of listening.

Undying - The Whispered Lies Of Angels: Perfect metal. Perfect vocals. Perfect lyrics. Perfect passion.

Extol - Undeceived: In my opinion, Extol picks up where the likes of Carcass, At The Gates, and early In Flames left off; beautifully crafted melodic death metal, and then they added a progressive pinch.

Led Zeppelin - Houses Of The Holy: Because classic rock gets overlooked way to often on this board, and this album is a fucking masterpiece.

There probably won't be a better list than that in this thread, based on the top 3 albums.

What's the last album?

My personal favourite Kate Bush album; at a time she was Dave Gilmor's pet project, but NFE was her first big individual departure imo - probably the basis of foundation for the style The Tiny, Joanna Newsom and Tori Amos continue... Beautiful and whimsical prog/newwave/dream pop from a beautifully voiced passionate artist
