Re: The Film Thread---Movies you recently watched
I’m looking forward to watching Midsommar, but I’m afraid it’s gonna be like The Wicker Man or Rosemary’s Baby where it’s 90 minutes of essentially nothing, and then 10 minutes of craziness. I’m sure that was bananas back in the day, but it’s been done so much already. Is that how Midsommar is, or does it actually have intrigue throughout?

Re: The Film Thread---Movies you recently watched
Excited to see Midsommar, but I am even more stoked to see The Lighthouse (new Eggers). I have heard only praises for it so far from the Cannes crowd.

What bothers me the most is that there isn't much that sets this apart from any past horror movie where a group of college kids go visit a place they think is "cool", things turn out to be "bad", and then: |

Re: The Film Thread---Movies you recently watched
“Hereditary” had some moments that genuinely disturbed me, kinda hard for a movie to achieve that these days. Main actress is incredible. The ending was fucking hilarious! Overall amazing film. Stoked to check out this new one for sure.

Just watched The Holy Mountain(1973) for the first time. No idea how I had never heard of it. Already an all-time favorite, maybe my favorite visuals ever. 10/10
The Favourite(2018) 9/10 |

---- People are probably aware of it, but Dragged Across Concrete hasn't been mentioned before, new Zahler (Bone Tomahawk, Brawl in Cell Block 99), gritty, bleak and brutal, anti-PC, long but I enjoyed every minute of it, Gibson, the bad boy of Hollywood, is a perfect anti-hero. Definitely recommended. Another atmospheric slow burner, the Vanishing. Straight forward plot enriched by strong performances, a ton of tension and bleak surroundings, probably not worthy of repeated watches, but worthy of the first one. The Golem - It caught my attention because of its The Witch-vibes, but the whole thing was quite underwhelming. Still probably a decent watch if you are longing for some historic rural indie horror with satisfying visuals but lacking in the plot department. |

Not in a million years would I have thought bone tomahawk and cell block 99 were created by the same person.

Have any of you checked out The House That Jack Built?
I personally loved it. Lars had to go a little over-the-top at the end with the pretentiousness, but it was still great. The whole scene that ended with the rainfall was just glorious black humor. |

Thought the ending was the best part of the movie. Was just absolutely incredible visually.

Re: The Film Thread---Movies you recently watched
For sure, one of my favorites of the last year, classical Lars. I was actually expecting more self-indulgence as many people were pointing out those (for some people boring and pretentious) architectural segments, but I didn't mind them at all. If anyone plans to watch it, go for the directors cut of it as it contains more scenes of graphic violence than the theater version.
There is this upcoming German flick that quite a few people drew parallels to when mentioning The House That Jack Built, cant wait to see it, it looks bonkers. |

Re: The Film Thread---Movies you recently watched
Just finished this and holy moly its gruesome. Now I get it why the whole snobbish PC movie reviewing crowd got all upset over it haha. The dude is like Jack (The House That Jack Built) but with an IQ of 70 and a raging boner ov hatred for women. And I had no idea its depicting an actual RL serial killer, bonkers.

new Godzilla:
solid action movie. the "family drama" parts are utter shit, but there's enough monster action to make it worth a watch if you want something to let your brain relax and see shit getting destroyed. a very solid 6/10 latest Jurassic World: one of the worst movies i've seen in my life. there's nothing even remotely decent, let alone good in this piece of shit. 0/10 |

I convinced my girl to watch Hereditary with me based on you guys and my best friend saying it was good. It was mediocre and forgettable but still miles better than fucking Brightburn. 6/10

Forgettable? There were scenes in that movie I’m not sure I’ll be able to forget and I can’t say that about many movies.

What stood out to me was how unfazed and "ah shit, here we go again" the dad was throughout the movie. Imagine being married to that crazy woman for years

“Triple Frontier” was surprisingly good. Credits were a real nice touch!
