![]() Arthur Koestler - Darkness At Noon. Brilliant, one of the best fiction books I've ever read. Deserves its classic status. ![]() Also great, history written in the form of a personal travelogue through the Sahara. Lindqvist rules. ![]() Pretty good account of the jewish holocaust from one of the survivors. Not overly judgemental or emotional/opinionated. ![]() |

![]() "Once Voshchev picked up a bird that had died in an instant in midair and fallen to earth; the bird was all in sweat, and when Voshchev plucked it, so as to see its body, what remained in his hands was a scant, sad creature that had perished from the exhaustion of its own labor. And now Voshchev did not spare himself in annihilation of the close-knit earth. Here the building would stand; in it people would be stored away from adversity, and they would throw crumbs out of the windows to the birds living outside." ![]() Delillo's pretty ham-fisted with his anti-commercialism, but I like the book. ![]() Last edited by LesserAnimal; 08-15-2012 at 11:26 AM.. |

![]() All ye politically despondent types in the Romney/Obama thread should read this guy. ![]() Hard to fault. Its a disgrace that they don't teach 99% of what's in this book in the Australian education system. |

Just finished Bukowski's "The Captain is Out to Lunch and the Sailors Have Taken Over the Ship"
Now going through Dan Fante's "Spitting Off Tall Buildings" Anyone got some suggestions for Bukowski-esque authors and books? |
