Anneke has left The Gathering

According to The Gathering´s website:

"05/2007 Anneke is leaving the Gathering
Dear all,

We are very sorry to announce the fact that Anneke has decided to leave the band in August 2007.
Anneke has several reasons not to be a member anymore. *We really regret the fact we could not find a way to continue together.*
However, we [the Gathering] will be working on new material with male & female vocalists. Expect a CD release somewhere in 2008.

With Anneke we've made great albums and did fantastic shows, which we are very proud of!
We had a great time! We wish Anneke all the best for the future.

The remaining festivals we will play together with Anneke. No new gigs will be scheduled.
The last gig with Anneke will be the Ankkarock Festival in Finland, the 4th of August.
Also the new DVD A Noise Severe as well as the double live CD will still be released this summer.

I don´t believe!! I´m chocked, sad... but if it´s the better choice for them I as fan support it!!
But I didn´t get to awake for this new reality yet...

Yeah....I'm very sad...:(....in my opinion,the best female singer ever!!!
At least,I went to their show....now just waiting for the dvd that was recorder in Chile....snif!!!!

I was quite stunned to hear this... If you check her Myspace, she does explain it a bit more and remarks that it was a hard choice to make.

Then of course the blog she wrote right after that is about her new band and new cd they have coming out... Which I am totally interested in hearing. Very sad though, as I never got to see them live.

Their last DVD was great, and I can't wait for the new DVD and live cd now.

Clearly a band I need to check out! Never heard so much as a single note of their music, although I've known their name for many years.

The "funny" thing was I went to their first 4 dates on the Lacuna Coil US show just a few weeks ago and there was absolutely no signs of this breakup. I'm glad I caught them live as many times as I could, and wish both Anneke & the remaining Gathering members well in their future musical journeys. Really looking forward to hearing the music that each group is going to do!

I agree with you, I also think Anneke is the best female vocal!! Have you gone on their concert in Brazil?!?

I am actually a HUGE The Gathering fan. And, just like GC, I have never been able to see them live... and I have known them since 1998. For some reason, somewhere in 1999 or 2000, I stopped listening to them - until about two years ago when I dug up my old dusty copy of "How to Measure a Planet?" Up to this very instant, I consider this album one of the best things I have ever heard in my entire life. HTMAP? satisfies everything I am looking for when it comes to music. Everything about the album is beyond fantastic.

I'm very happy to have seen them live a couple of times while they were still together. Guess I'm lucky to be living in Holland. Very curious about Agua de Annique but I must say,I like the old The Gathering albums better than the latest few, and I'm afraid the Agua... songs will have the same effect on me.
