I think Horns of Baphomet was my first song, but the first album I listened to was Choronzon. Bought Words, and fell in love with the band.

My one criticism is that some of the heavier parts aren't up to the quality of the rest. The opening of Verdelet, for example, has really standard riffing up until the clean vocals enter. A good counterexample is Summon the Antichrist, which is relentlessly brutal but interesting throughout.

Yeah, I think "Verdelet" is yet another perfect song with some rather simple but effective riffing.

Something people may find awkward about Akercocke being a "black/death act" is that they perform wearing suits/formal clothing. The alleged reason is that they believe their music should sound great and their looks should match it
^ gayest thing I've ever heard

Fuck that, I support that comment 100%

Gotta have styles brah

Bananao: Akercocke didn't blow me away at first. Even when I first heard Choronzon I didn't think it was that amazing. After a while though, especially after giving 'Words...' it all started to make sense

i can think of plenty of DM bands that put a button up shirt on before playing. it really really isnt that unusual at all.

By plenty, I'm pretty sure you mean one (AMDBL). Akercocke are a tad sharper than them though

I think it was almost instantly that I thought Verdelet was a perfect song. Maybe you just don't like it.

I actually agree with that somewhat. In general, I think the clean/melodic parts carry the album more on Words, whereas on Choronzon the heavy riffing itself is consistently awesome. It doesn't make me enjoy the album any less though.

I have four of their albums. "Choronzon" is my favorite but honestly I never listen to any of them anymore. I hate the way their albums sound... never as heavy as they should be. I think they would benefit from a more slick production.

I saw them once in 2004. Was cool but the drumming was terrible. The drummer had an electronic bass drum and I've never heard so much popcorn in my life.

I don't know, Choronzon production is heavy as shit, imo. Some of the sections on the album are ridiculous, the drums sound good, you can hear the bass and the guitar tone is thick and the vocals are just loud enough (his vocals are great, too, one of my favorite in dm). I'm used to listening to the cd in the car though, with the speakers blasting, I've never had good speakers on the comps at home.

I do agree, however, the production on the latest album especially leaves much to be desired.

yeah I believe that's when I saw them too, no complaints here though. maybe just a bad day.

on an unrelated note, something that's always bugged me is when Grey does his suffo blasts, the hi-hat is pretty much always just a bit behind the snare, I'm not sure if he does that on purpose or what
