Absolute epic moment

Agree with Marlon, everything Goat onwards is awesome, but 'Words..' is an absolute standout. Every moment of that album just kills. Shelter In The Sand and the two title tracks especially

David Gray is one of my absolute favourite metal drummers, perfect style for this band.

I used to listen to this song(think it's this one) a lot on earache's music player on their website when the album was new:

Has anyone heard Akercocke's cover of Chapel of Ghouls by Morbid Angel?

Yeah, they could go on the road with Anata and call it the "Assfucked by Earache Tour".

Yes, it's just a shame that his drum sound is never quite right (imo).

Yeah, don't like it much. Same with the other bonus cover track on Antichrist, "Leprosy" by Death. Jason't vocals make the text so unintelligible it's amusing.

I really like Words That Go Unspoken etc, that album is probably my favourite. Antichrist took a while to grow on me, though Axiom is probably my favourite Akercocke song. Choronzon is pure evil, I love the guitar sound on that album. Still haven't got around to hearing the first two, I really should...

If you ask me its always sounded pretty good until Antichrist. Great album but the production kinda sucks

Its kinda strange that words had flawless production, but then antichrist went down hill a bit in that regard

Haha, you're right... but it's also possible that the riff had been written previously and Akercocke decided to use it for that song... happens all the time "oh, I've got this riff lying around... let's use it!"

I don't know what are you talking about. I only said "Antithesis" was the fastest, craziest and my favourite straight up extreme brutal DM record the year it came out. That's all. I never granted Origin with the "best band in the world" title, ever, but i certainly remember saying it about Akercocke years and years ago a few times right here. Its true that i never hyped them up like i did with Origin but that doesn't mean a thing.

Myself explained.

Now back on the devilish topic. "Antichrist" had a really raw and not so good sound compared to the previous records. I'm not sure why it was like this and if they really wanted it to be that way.

It was because they produced it themselves, whereas Words was done with Neil Kernon.

I heard the same thing, but the sound was way raw for all the sophisticated parts and also lacked punch. Maybe the wanted to sound more old-school on purpose..

I know I keep saying it but Goat Of Mendes is their best, hands down. It's the most evil piece of molten Satanic metal ever made in my opinion.

I know there was some kind of dispute between Earache and the band following the release of "Antichrist" and I think it was over the production of that album. Can't remember exactly though and can't be assed to find the source material.
And yeah, the production really sucks on that album, but still doesn't manage to ruin it at all.

They blend genres seamlessly, always managing to write coherent, awesome songs that flow really well. They are heavy and evil as fuck and combine this with moments of stunning beauty. They maintain a level of intellectual integrity that is rarely found in metal. They are the perfect band.

I remember when I bought "Choronzon" years and years ago because I really liked the song "Leviathan". I listened to the CD once, was like "wtf is this shit" and instantly resold it. Years later I fell in love with "Words..." and proceeded going back to that CD, finally understanding its genius.
