Yeah, but Boogie Down Productions I think is considerably more legendary than Jay-Z. Maybe not near as popular. And how can you hate on The Infamous? That album is killer.

I'll let Jason decide for himself, here are some music videos:
BDP - "The Bridge is Over" (diss song toward the Juice Crew, one of the first major rap feuds'; you can hear some of the origins of RZA's sound in the beat) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p5BcRWKHta4 Tim Dog - "Fuck Compton" (not the greatest lyricist, but I think this song is hilarious and the beat is awesome) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AUoGFU7VnMM Mobb Deep - "Shook Ones pt. II" (this is some quality shit here) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UeuEGr_UTzg Black Moon - "How Many MC's" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dKKicEjGvWQ Smif-N-Wessun - "Bucktown" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dKKicEjGvWQ /\ Sean Price isn't on either of those Boot Camp Clik songs btw. |

Not as good vocabulary as Wu-Tang, but very good storytellers. Mainly I listen to rap for delivery and beats, because I'm all about sound and atmosphere. I love lyricists who are utterly awesome like GZA, but it doesn't bother me if the person isn't a prodigy. Anyway, KRS-One is an excellent rapper, so how can you hate on BDP?

I never said anything about them, and it's not really anywhere near KRS' best stuff.

oh, I almost forgot about Kool G. Rap, he started most of the Mafioso stuff that Rae expanded on with Cuban Linx.

You also MUST listen to Eric B. and Rakim. It doesn't really sound anything like Wu-Tang, but it's some of the best rap out there. Which reminds me I still need to get Paid in Full. Follow the Leader is a good album, though.

If you don't know who Rakim is, you shouldn't be listening to hip hop.
