Jazz Albums of the week
I don't know if anyone is actually gonna look at this as much as I hope but for those who like Jazz I was going to pick an album each week to listen to and hopefully discuss with ya'll. If this doesn't take off, I guess fuck it, but hopefully it will.
So for this week the week of 1/31-2/7 the album is... The Dave Brubeck Quartet - Time Out ![]() For those who don't have it here Discuss |

Yeah I will definitely be frequenting this thread. Take Five is just legendary at this point. Theres not a lot about that you can say that hasn't already been said. I have only one album from Brubeck and I was looking for the one with Take FIve on it but couldnt find it on googleblog so thanks a lot. I'll listen to this later and tell you what i think.

I just finished listening to the full thing and it was awesome. There are actually a lot of rhythms that would translate really well to a heavier context

I give you a month tops doood.
Anyway. Thanks for the apreesh guys, I totally will keep this up now that I know that there are mad people that like Jazz and many trying to get into it. As stated, Blue Rondo would be such a great song to cover. The rhythms throughout the song would work well in something heavy. On another note Paul Desmond's sax tone is so fucking good. Something that is totally hard to replicate. |

 is this what you keep in the back of your mind when you listen to music that isn't metal? Whether this music would sound good if translated into metal?

This is a great idea dude. I've been neglecting jazz for far too long, giving this a spin before committing to sleep.

Not an album, but this is where everyone should suck Jeff Hamilton's dick. Watch the hi-hat the entire time, he never fucks it up for a second, even during his weird-as-fuck and rhythmically complicated (but still classy/melodically simple) drum solo that fits the song perfectly. Can't wait to see this guy drum at Jazz Unlimited at my school in April.

It seems like playing a fretted bass for a jazz band would be the easiest thing to do in a jazz band.
Listened to Take Five last night to go to sleep, and the entire album is awesome. Blue Rondo is awesome. The layering of the frantic intro with the really loungy, relaxing jazz in the middle is so awesome. I don't know if you guys caught it, but there was some awards ceremony in Philadelphia a couple weeks ago that I watched with the woman and her family and they were honoring Mel Brooks, Robert Deniro, Dave Brubeck, and a couple others. And they played Take Five during the Dave Brubeck part and his kids came out and played the brass parts and Dave was really moved by it. I'm sure its on the tubes somewhere. Also, Mel Brooks and Robert DeNiro fucking rule so it was actually a pretty cool awards ceremony. |

This is pretty good. I'm not really into "straightforward" jazz as much as it's subgenres, but this album's legit.
