We would love to use more footage from this show, but unfortunately one of Troy's bass drum triggers broke when he was setting up. It kept cutting out and mis-triggering. It kind of ruins it at times.

Mike, i watched the video many times and i can't understand how you use your wrist. It's like it's not moving.
Have you some advices?
Is your wrist very turned to the down, hitting the strings with a great angle (hard to describe) or is your wrist more laying against the guitar body, hitting the strings quite perpendicular. You may have some pictures? I'm working 2-3 hours a day and still haven'f found THE position that allow to speed, mute, skip the strings etc.. :(

Shit man, sorry for the late reply. Most of my motion does come from the wrist, but I am constantly changing angles of the pick/wrist/forearm, etc depending on what I'm playing or how I want to phrase something. In this video (for the most part) my forearm is fairly flat with the guitar body. On a lot of rhythm work I do, I tend to play with the downward forearm angle you mentioned, though once again it depends on what exactly I'm playing, and how I want it to sound.
Don't worry about how something looks when you play it, as long as the desired result is acheived. If you are practicing something for hours and not getting results fast enough, I think it's best to take a step back and think about what exactly needs to happen (physically) for you to play a certain passage. Visualize the riff playing itself. Also, It's very important to practice something only at the speed which you can play it 100% perfectly, consistantly without any flaw. At this speed, experiment with different angles, and points of motion. Also, you may find it easier to play something faster if you alter your technique. Though that technique may not be the best for when it is played slow. Ok I'm starting to ramble. Let me know if you have any more questions.

Shit man, a huge thanks for this answer. Can't imagine how good it is to read that my "problems" are in fact quite normal.
Explanation: there are riffs that sound better for me to play with the forearm turned down, hitting the strings down to the body (muted chords and 8th notes riffs in 223344 etc...especially).Not easy to do, but the sound seems more heavy. I can't do 16th like that, solos or arpeggios, for that it's better with my forarm flat.
I was crazy about finding the best wrist position, forcing the "turned down- suppination wrist" to do 16th (which is painful).
NOW, you say that in fact, you change your forearm position in order to play different riffs which is maybe the MOST IMPORTANT thing i've heard for months (if it's not years). So i can work cooler, not getting a psycho with my fuckin wrist.

man!, i sure as hell can't play as well as mike or Trauma here (btw Trauma you're band sounds Killer dude!!) but reading these types of things suuuree does help alot, nad has helped alot with my guitar playing. instructional but more on a personal level..even though it is quite tricky to visualize all the forearm angels and positioning and stuff haha. i never thought about doing the "take a step back and think about what exactly needs to happen for you to play the certain passage"..
it's amazing how much contact through the internet has helped me with my guitar playing.
i've noticed that once you get a good technique going, you improve sooo fast it's almost a joke. haha

I agree with you concerning internet guitar tips exchange. Exchange in general makes you improve faster. It's just hard to find "real" people that play and have the same need as you, and easier on the internet. I just ad that Mike always gave me advices that helped me better than a couple of guitar lessons I would have took, and better then everyone else on the internet.

yeah this is true, very helpfull indeed.
i find that sleeping helps my guitar playing aswell, because when i'm tierd and short of sleep i can't be fucked doing anything on the guitar worth while.

sorry brah.. i found a few websites that allow uploads of files over 300MG, but my net as been acting up alot and haven been canceling half way through uploads, i will keep trying though.. and when i do manage to finaly get it up (hahah)... i'll let you know.
