Tetly Tea Leaf

Yo rock n roll/metal co-hearts. Blarg Blarg Tea Boy here. Talk of all this cover music brings to surface many a tune that would be worthy of covering. Kinda tuff cause I by passed alot of the old school rock stuff myself and went from Oingo Boingo to Megadeth and Metallica. (I'm kidding about Oingo Boingo but I did listen to some crazy 80's pop stuff I refuse to repeat here) Probably one of my earliest albums was AC/DC flick of the switch. Bedlam in Belgum was pretty heavy for me then. Then it was was on to Maiden then very quickly I was listening to Megadeth, Killing is my business, before heading off to church on Sunday mornings. (They did a sick cover of Nancy Sinatra's "These Boots." So obscure to me is good as long as it's done well. I personaly would steer away from the normal covers, I.E. ANYTHING by Zepplin or Kiss. Nothing against those two powerhouses but it's just been played out. I'd rather turn the masses onto something new.

Just a few thoughts here.

A. Kings X- Lot's of heavy songs along with great harmonies & tons of Hooks! That guy has an amazing voice. I'd choose something from back in the early 90's they did. Kevin I know you used to dig them so you gotta have some of that old stuff. Obscure band somewhat but lots of great Heavy rock tunes to bring to the table that the mass market would appreciate.

B. Personally I think it's a little early to bust out the Alice In Chains covers. I hasn't been THAT long since we lost Lane. However anything on Dirt would be worthy of covering and if someone could pull it off with class I believe you guys (and girl) could. Them Bones is one of my fav's personally.

C. I'm fishing for "rockish" stuff here but If it was me? I'd be doing a SEAL cover. Crazy is one of my favorite songs from the 1st album. Hey everyone knows who he is and alot of the stuff from his 1st album is guitar/band oriented stuff. Crazy is a monster feel good/BIG sounding Song. It got lot's of airplay when it 1st came out. I think Marq could kill it on the vocals too. Hey, go for Broke. If you were thinkinga bout Phil Collins then this could do just as well if not beter. (although i was ALL about doing "in the air." If you think it's gay. Fuck you.

D. Now this ones gonna get me shit but Garth Brooks "thunder rolls." Rock that song out, make it a bit heavier. Great song. Moody. Again Marq's vocals could put that song over the top. (i know you guys are gonna give me shit about that one.) I beleive covering that song set's you apart from the typical rock bands.

Aside from the Alice in Chains songs the others are not typical cover songs. They could put you over the top or have you looking like the kid in the corner of the play ground no one wants to play with. But hey. That's what stepping out and being unique is about.

I have spoken

In case all you bee-itches don't know, I'll tell ya:

Tony Teegarden (see post above) used to be in Epitaph (Tampa, FL based tech-death-core that Borivoj Krgin from Metal Maniacs once described as "the best unsigned death metal act in Florida") with me, I also played drums in Epitaph.

He also is the guy who did ALL of the death metal vocals on the now classic Cynic "Focus" album, back in the day on Roadrunner Records.

Okay, T, to address your points:

A. Gay, and too obscure, they really never had a hit worthy of redoing, even though there are several albums of theirs I love. Did I mention that you are GAY?

B. The validity of doing or not doing an AIC cover is not, in my opinion, to be judged by how long it has been since a member has died. It is simply that AIC is classic, even though only out for roughly 15 years. We decided against it b/c we could not see adding any dimension to the song that would warrant doing it; i.e.; how can you improve on "Dirt"? Short answer, you can't. Long answer, yooooooooouuuuuuuu caaaaannnnnnnnoootttt.

C. Seal, hmmmm, I never really got into him, but I know he's a really popular artist, and that song was huge.

D. Dude, you are the gayest of the gay, and then even gayer than that, with an extra scoop of gay on top (oh, that's right, you're a "bottom", I forgot! :D). Garth MuthaFukkin Brooks? Could be cool and unexpected. But gay, oh, so gay.

I am still holding out for an older Devo song, perhaps "Uncontrollable Urge" or "Freedom of Choice."

Tony Teegarden 07-28-2004 05:08 AM

what did i tell ya..

I knew I'd get shit for it...didn't I tell ya.

MetalNorm 07-28-2004 12:44 PM

Faith No More - Epic? MIght be too rappy, but it's a killer song.

Tony Teegarden 07-28-2004 05:46 PM

oh by the way...

Oh If you've ever heard the song, which I'm assuming you haven't , it does rock. Garth Brooks is a Multi Multi Multi Platinum recording artist by the way so I'm sure a few people have heard it. People would be blown away by your rendition. I wouldn't have suggested it If I didn't think you guys could pull it off with finese and in your own way. Rock, Metal and New Country would dig it. Hell if Kid Rock can pull it off. I am hurt, broke down and about to cry in my extra scoop of gayness now. Blar Blarg Bottom Boy out.

P.S. If it was up to me I'd cover something off of Testaments the Legacy. I.E. "Over the Wall." Fuck everybody.

P.P.S. Obscure? Talk about those two Devo songs. Only song any one knows of is "whip it." Which is what I'd rather do than listen to a Devo cover. haha.

P.P.P.S. Ok Kevin I'm ready for the Verbal Assault you're about to lay down, But you're still my obeise late night raviolli eaten Bon bon munchen microphone marinator that I know and Love.

AstlAdrift 07-28-2004 09:39 PM

Okay, for you readers out there, this has assumed epic wacky and distasteful proportions, so please read no further if imagery of rimming, sodomy, and other graphic endeavors offend you!

Teegarden, Taster of Paul,

Bro, you've not NEAR had the last word ("I ain't through with you by a damn sight"), and I would say that you should not shoot a fucking tank in a glass mansion, turdlet, so here goes....

It's humorous to me that most of what you throw at me is about me fucking various chicks, which is obviously good for me, rather than you, who was anally penetrated by your butch ex-girlfriend. How else can you explain the stained and smelly STRAP-ON she kept? You have a dick (albeit a shrivelled, comically tiny choad), so a strap-on is superfluous, especially in light of the fact that this particular strap-on did NOT have a hole in the back for insertion of your member, which means you could NOT have put it on. So you took it in the shitter, I understand...it was in your "experimental" days...I'm not judging, dude, really I'm not...

Do I need to bring up the pudding, and the spoon, and the gay porn? You'd better hope not.

So I made a chick walk home after sleeping with her. She was an insensitive, mean-spirited, and harassing little bimbo who deserved to be put in her place. And I *DID* get little hotties (all of legal age, mind you) to blow me when I was a manager for McD's, don't tell me you would not have. Come on, hot chicks in polyester uniforms, with NAMETAGS, horking on the old Grimace, and enjoying the special sauce? It's a veritable dream of adolescent flesh!!

Can't we just get along? Your posts here have been so helpful and fun. Ha, you know I'm just breaking balls, beeyotch.

Anyone reading this must think that we are like a stupid married couple. But, oddly, only one of us, YOU, has eaten of the man-flesh that shall not be named, and accepted Peter into Paul, if you catch my drift...or my A-drift!

HAHAHAHAHA!

In other news, I will check out the GB song! See ya!

Tony Teegarden 07-28-2004 10:53 PM

I'm lauphing so hard i'm freak'n cryen..!!...It's all good.

P.S. What scares me about the stain btw was that it was GREEN dude. And you know it's true. Florescent GREEN. hahaha. I question if she was human or not...lol.

Hi, have you guys thought about some Aerosmith? "Sweet Emotion" could be a good option, as well as "Rats in the cellar".

Beleth 07-30-2004 04:38 PM

I want to see an OPETH cover!

Beleth 07-30-2004 04:38 PM

I want to see an OPETH cover!

AstlAdrift 07-30-2004 04:42 PM

Beleth, an interesting proposition. Steven Wilson's productions are definitely the shit, but it would have to be one of the shorter, moodier songs. I'd get voted down on any of the more metal stuff, even though they crush!

owenadrift 08-02-2004 09:02 AM

I'm gonna re-work the classic song "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" by Gordon Lightfoot. It could have some heavy moody shit in it somewhere...Will anybody know it???

Tony Teegarden 08-02-2004 10:33 AM

How about Joe Walsh..."in the eyes of the confessor, you can't tell a lie." blah blah blah..was that even his name? Anyone know the song? Pretty cool song.

[Revolver Sept. 2004]

SHIT!! That song (even though we have not been working with it) had my vote for highest "cool" factor.

Oh, well, keep the suggestions coming!! The record is only four weeks away!!

Wait, 1st off - you actually read? - What nonsense. 2nd - Nonpoint...I'll keep tight lipped about them - They're a fellow FL band aren't they? 3rd - Your posts are definitely not for the epileptic nor the colorblind. I'm beginning to wonder about you Kevin...all this talk about 'gay' this and 'gay' that, yet here you are typing in PINK and LIME GREEN.

siN 08-05-2004 05:58 PM

With all said and done, and with Nonpoint running away with my idea that was without a doubt the hottest thing since denim, I'm going to have to forge forth with a chant for JUDAS PRIEST

Andro 11-07-2004 05:05 PM

Just take a really shitty pop song and revamp it.

Just think of something fun to do. And remember, it's always best when you do something no one will expect. Because then, you were either smoking some weird shit, or it's a higher level of musical art than most of the populus can understand. :p

x_possessed_x 11-28-2004 04:18 AM

maybe pentagram from possessed 7 churches cd or maybe some old slayer like evil has no boundries

grinder502 11-29-2004 06:59 AM

I would love to hear you guys do something from rush or the man in black (jonny cash) myself
