Jamming this for the first time in years, way better than I remember GODDAMN

YES
Been bumping this all week. I used to think Blood Oath was boring af. So many great cuts. Mental hemorrhage, images of purgatory, provoking the disturbed, come hell or high priest, and pray for forgiveness have riffs and sections I never picked up before. After giving it a real chance Its much more dense and intricate than I recall. The first minute of mental hemorrhage goes through four different riffs that are easy to miss because of the slams that come later. Also the final minute is nuts. The songs also have a good flow that become more apparent after repeat listens.
The problem with Suffo is comparing an album like Blood Oath to human waste, effigy, pierced, breeding. Compared to those albums Blood Oath is completely trivial but taken on its own without comparison its a good release. Every album sucks when compared to Pierced.
Also I adore souls to deny track for track.
Good post.

Re: what are you listening to?

Souls to Deny is a classic I think, the ending ‘Behoooold... tha toms of acrimoney... oney...’, then that melodic opening riff to close it. Beast. A real shame Mike was dissatisfied so much with the band as once he left they lost a great deal.

Listening to Fornicus and actually digging that Dearth record, but really relistening to some of my faves I’m surprised the scene didn’t totally give up after the last Adversarial, that album is a masterclass on the black arts.

Also really enjoying Cerebrum on Transcending Obscurity, just off kilter and catchy enough.

Re-recording of waldergefluster demo is amazing.

New Aversio Humanitatis is great but less Ulcerate and more blaze of perdition than I was expecting.

Hail spirit noir is sweet, although appears like Code mixed with King Crimson, I thought they’d be more avant garde. Best ics vortex impression I’ve ever heard.

Void ceremony is something special, and I’m finding the new pyrrhon very disappointing; appears a lot of noise, which if your adding your improv to what sort of an album is it really? I’ll persevere with it. Is this what their last ep sounded like?

New enslaved soon eeee.

^ Damn, you remember me that I have to order the new DS.

For the moment listening to this, it's been a long time... Excellent death metal release with a good balance between riffs/atmosphere/songwriting and (even if I hate this word) technicality:

Really good release worshipping Death (the band) late period, but you probably all know this. I think the drums sounded more memorable on the previous one, but the bass guitar shine more on this last album. Hope the band will rise again!

It’s basically the best cover ever, so yes, indeed.

Terminal Nation, I was hoping for Fuming mouth with just the breakdowns and got just that, for fans of sludgier gorefest.

Really enjoying age of Nero by the great Satyricon; a little style over substance but there are some banging riffs in here for sure.

I adore the new defeated sanity but I think it?s their worst album; I appreciate dharmata now so much more over the years, and passages I love despite it?s flaws probably because of the three closing tracks - this new one is too perfect for its own good it lacks a human element I find. Plus I?m already getting tired of Marston productions it turns out he?s done practically everything for years now; he?s very hit and miss despite everything being (dirty) pristine practically all of the time.

fuckin' hell, I haven't heard this album since I was in college. I still like The Insight Eye better.

In my humble opinion, the best 2020 death metal release so far. Tons of groove, a decent amount of darkness and this fretless bass is delicious.

Conductor’s departure aw man I had twenty resit exams once I’d walk from Lewis to Brighton every day for months not knowing what my future would be. This, effigy, pierced, remission by mastodon and memoria vetusta II were my closest friends.

Re: what are you listening to?

I loved Ulcerate for their production on vermis, seems Karmacipher have taken the raw approach further with their latest. What drummer would be so bold is the dude from benighted but of course, but this is a three piece band confidently sounding like a three piece, like the baring teeth debut.

Two discs into swallow the sun trilogy, it’s glorious.

Psypheria - Systemic Confrontation.

Don't find the entire album on YouTube or Bandamp so I just posted this song. Death metal a little bit technical with a lot of keys. Don't know what I think yet.
