I was sort of wondering if anyone here listens to and likes Abruptum. Euronymous definately liked them, but when I listen to them I just can't get it. Sure, it's extreme but it's not music to me (well, it is the audial essence of pure black evil for Euro as well).
Any opinions?

well, abruptum is certainly not conventional music in the sense of structured songwriting etc., and I cannot listen to it everyday myself, but sometimes I really enjoy obscuritatem... or in umbra...
it's hard to say, and everybody has to know for himself...
No, I think it's crap that might be fun to jam if one is really loaded, but not worthy of release.
Jazz had a very tedious period in the 1960s when this formless ( and gormless) 'experimentation' was in vouge.
Structure is one of the great strngths of Western Music as opposed to the monotonous tribal shit from Africa or the Carribean.
VONDUR, on the other left-hand, rules!!

i really had to reply to this. I like abruptum because of who's in it but in general it bores me because it doesnt sound like it hurts enough. I havent heard the newest one but they said they used cut themselves, burn, torment themselves during the recordings. And em...i'm ready to see those scars now boys then i'll re-listen my entire Abruptum collection. Till' then it just does'nt sound like it hurted enough to be too legit. thank you

heh! y know the abruptum studio torture sessions are pure myth started by euronymous....it was just IT that cut himself with a stanley knife sometimes....nothing major....heard this from DAN SWANO..years ago...he produced the first 2 lps....and incidently is playing the drums on the first lp....(so hes the ? on that album..check the back sleeve)
the other member EVIL....well thats morgan from MARDUK...he only has a few scars on his arms...i used to know him real well years ago, stayed at his place in 96 for a few days...so i found out a lot of these old bm stories first hand....euronymous exagerated everything..heh!....IT(tony sarkka) moved to finland some years ago.totally dropped contact with everyone(after some threats from MLO(jon/vlad etc)...he sold all his vinlys to dave(blackmoon)...the other old member of abruptum from the demo days(ALL)....he almost died some years back...around 2000..he collapsed with a heamorrage....he survived though..not sure what he is doing these days....never knew him, just heard about this from blackmoon.....think abruptum is just morgan on his own nowadays......could be wrong though.................
Yeah,Morgan has his hands full with the collapse of
Marduk. This is a real pity, as they had built a strong live band and, though the Black Metal element was less on each album, had little difficulty writing enough good material for a release each 2 years or so.
I was listening to what I consider It and All's finest moment yesterday ( as Opthalamia): the heavy metal/black metal hybrid version of MacBeth, Dominion. Great stuff!!

I think that "Obscuritatem Advoco Amplectere Me" opens a new door in black metal... What I first liked in Abruptum it was how they use electric guitar.
I love to listen "Obscuritatem Advoco Amplectere Me". While some say they can not listen to it from the beginning to the end I have no trouble listening it everyday from the beginning to the end.
It goes beyond black metal and I think that was in that time one of the goals. At least the avoidance of metal. Becouse the metal part is one of the reasons why BM is now just ordinary music for the more extreme metal listeners. Abruptum achieved to go in the place of dark music which was only described in the lyrics of some other bands. Those bands could not create such piece of art and give a full picture of darkness.
Does anybody know who did the artwork for the rerelease of "Obscuritatem Advoco Amplectere Me"?
You know... it is that picture where a girl kisses a skull.
