View Full Version : Mayhem on VH-1/MTV most metal moments!

they have been featured on the 100 most metal moments on the VH-1 channel. Unlike the first time they were featured this time theyre accompanied by some rare video footage of like Ihsahn walking over the ruins of a burned church, flash pics of dead, the count being sentenced, and I even thought I saw something I have never before seen and that was like the photo that they made the faceplate for De mysteriis dom sathanas, attila's faceplate anyway it looked like him. This might get more interested in the true darkness in the metal scene and now more than ever people know what black metal is all about, especially the second wave. If I wear a mayhem tshirt in public now theres a better chance that some people will go hey look that guy is into that crazy norwegian band where they eat brains and kill people and sacrifice sheep! and I think that's pretty cool. They didn't make fun of it on the show either. They discussed it and acknowledged it's dangerous aspects with some respect at least. It also makes Motley Crue's problems or Bon Jovi's haircare problems seem the furthest thing from metal. - Gorgoroth were also featured in their own slot and retained a dark, scary image. All in all I was surprised that networks like VH-1 are finally acknowledging the true metal bands. The webmaster is falling behind alot and noone in here informed that it was being shown. Come on man lets get those new pics there too. Stop patronizing the Pantera site and update the Mayhem one now!

I'm pretty sure the webmaster did mention it. Its hardly big news, sensationalist media has been talking about Mayhem for years

Then why aren't they making way more money? as soon as you're on tv a few times things only get better sales-wise for just about anything. I think this could break them big because now it's actually seen by everyone on tv instead of hear-say... It's like in 88' when i heard about slayer they were the sickest, most extreme band and that prompted me to pick up their stuff same with new kids and new mayhem because of all the stories.

Does anybody know what number Mayhem came in at?

I hope that Mayhem doesn't start to make a lot of money. Once bands become featured on tv regularly and receive lots of money, they begin to suck even worse than before. But then again, Mayhem deserves billions of dollars for kicking so much ass.

If the Varg/Euro deal wouldn't have happened, they probably wouldn't even have garnered a place in the top 100 since they're not exactly likeable by most people that like metal/rock. Mayhem and they're cohorts are too extreme for most even today.

Haha...did anyone think about this: why the hell is Rob Halford's being gay more of a metal moment than Mayhem's? That's questionable. Murder = somewhat metal. Homosexuality = very metal.

I caught the program... did anyone notice the absence of the term Black Metal in favor of "Norwegian Death Metal"? Fuck-ing-weak...

I think Mayhem was at like 68 or something. They had Gorgoroth in there too.

IMO that was a shitty list.

Mayhem should've been higher on the list. Atleast in the top 20. I mean that stupid Pam/Tommy Lee sex tape got higher than Mayhem, and they have Cannibalism, Murder, Satanism, Burning Churches, and shit like that. And a little sex got higher...Pamela Anderson isn't that great anyway....

ya to MURDER- HAHAHAHA Yeah man weak is it. I think they changed it from Norwegian Black Metal to Death Metal because it would confuse all the gansta hip hoppers into thinking it was metal for black people or something HAHAHA too funny and obviously many people know they're not death metal just by common associations.

Heh, yeah. And then black people would be all pissed and say shit like, "What the fuck? Now the white man is segregating metal music now? Bullshit!" That'd be hilarious.

I can't say I'm too thrilled about all this. Yes, I'm one of those, the type who doesn't like the bands I enjoy to be exposed to large amounts of people, because most people simply do not have the mental capacity to understand.

Actually I did mention it before, and I will update the site very soon. Give me a break, I maintain the site on top of working 50 hours a week. Settle down :P Besides how many band website do you know of that update like every 5 months? I know alot of them. Yeah I dont update every other day, but I DO update.

Also I would like to point out that VH-1 got a few things wrong in case anyone didnt notice. First they referred to Mayhem as death metal, second they said Hellhammer is the only remaining founding member which, naturally, is incorrect. There was something else but I can't recall what it was at this time of night. The top 100 was amusing all around. There were some pretty funny ones. It was entertaining. I just don't think VH-1 should be covering black metal bands unless they get their fucking facts straight. Besides, if you want the top 100 most outrageous metal moments you could probably find all 100 of them in the realm of black metal. The panzy ass guitarist from Poison being drunk on the MTV video music awards isnt my idea of really outrageous or anything.

One thing that I found absolutly fuckin' ridiculious is that they said the reason that V.V. killed E. was that he felt that E. had " surpassed him as a guitarist" or some thing! WTF!?!

Murder
06-11-2004, 05:13 PM
Right, and V.V. knew it. He killed him over, mainly, political differences as V.V.'s budding 'new' philosophy began to manifest itself in strange and overt ways, a philosophy that he, apparently, felt was in direct opposition to that of Euronymous'. I say strange because we can all see what the end result of it was (even now he renounces all his 'good' music as "nigger" music).

Murder

I don't opine, I relay facts as stated in interviews by V.V.

Well, a reason that does make sense is what I've said before in a thread I made that Dimas locked. (Goddamn, Dimas is gonna ban me or something like that for this, but here it goes.) Think about it. I don't see how after cutting one's arms so deep that you could actually pick up a shotgun and commit suicide. It could have been that Euro tampered with the evidence of Dead's murder and it pissed him off. Just a thought. You shouldn't always accept what you're told. I think that Varg would have killed every single member of Mayhem if he could. Mayhem was the leading black metal band at the time, the most notorious, and certainly better and more popular than Burzum. But then again, I'm probably wrong.

Thats just daft. I don't want to join in all this speculation.. but Varg was actually a member of Mayhem for a while, do you think he wanted to murder himself as well?

Oh, yeah. That's right, because I forgot that no one ever gets away with murder. -_- It has been done, dude. And I didn't say that Varg planned on killing the whole band, I just said he would have if he had the chance. And people have killed other people because of jealousy. If you wanna rise to the top, it might involve murder.

I was aproving as I was reading your statement but I totally disagree with your last words. They don't deserve billions of dollars just because they kick ass. They deserve admiration and don't worry becuase I'm sure they're throwing money to the toilet thanks to us that buy their albums. Unfortunately as soon as they became good stuff for the label and the media the feeling is thing of the past and the money is the best in life for them. Just go and ask Metallica.

Yeah, I heard that too... didn't he say that Snorre or someone told him that Euro was going to kill him for not being evil enough, and V.V. going their (with Snorre) was like a preemptive strike? Not too plasible. Anyone know anything about the guitarist for Thorns by the way? The only time that I ever heard him popping up in the early 'ninties was when he got taken in connection with V.V. and sang like a conary. I wouldn't mind hearing his story.

What the hell is wrong with this Hitler guy? He just posts stuff about being angry and whatnot. I don't think that Mayhem is either trendy nor underground. They are obviously one of the biggest names in black metal, so you can't really be underground when you have achieved such greatness and are notorious for several things. And if they are trendy, so fucking what? I still like all of Mayhem's music, from Deathcrush to Chimaira. Usually when a band changes style, they do suck like Dimmu Borgir, but I think Mayhem does everything well.

Well, I don't think that anyone has "mastered" English or even any language. And if English isn't his first language, then give the guy a break. Some of the bands you like have grammatical errors, even Mayhem. "The blood of others are of a colder substance and taste." "Are" should be replaced by "is". But yeah, his spelling was pretty horrendous. If someone whose native language was English, then that would be terribly pathetic.
