Just a little question, out of mere curiosity:
On "Jagannatha" at 1"57 is it a pattern of chordal tapping with some chorus on it ?
I like those small stunts so much !
Do you slap as much as you tap ? 'Cause tapping really seems to be your cup of tea ;-)

no chorus, just a two different sweepings recorded over eachother.

well seeing as how most of us in here are pretty good bass players here is a question...
i have been trying to get sweeps/arpeggios down on bass with out using a pick every one around here in indy says its impossiable but so far i have been proving them wrong...how did you guys learn how to sweep/arpeggio on bass?

I picked it up from classical guitar which you play with you fingers so it went over pretty easy to bass for me .

One more question: When you have copied your screen, where do you save it to upload it on Photobucket with the right format (i.e JPEG, GIF,...)?
Sorry, guess I'm a bit more gifted with a bass than a computer ;-)

still here! washing my clothes and trying to find my passport before the tour starts hehe about the vids ive been promising - cant find the cable to connect from the cam to the pc , so its been on hold for some time. also done some other gigs and been on vacation, so sorry about the delay. it will be pretty elaborate stuff though, 2-3-4 fingerpicking, sweeping, tapping, dynamics ,doublethumping/slapping. ill deal with it when i come home the 24.th or so.
well, i got my camera up and running. recorded most of the stuff I find useful. So it`ll be some more days of writing down the notes and comprehensible instructions. in the meantime, here`s a retarded improvisational clip on whats to come

ah i see. i know the forum, was just wondering if we were still talking about bass here.
Yes, sorry for confusion ! I also try to focus on the work of drummers, which is very useful/inspirational sometimes. Especially with talented guys such as Derek...

Hey dudes. Ive been playing guitar for a while now and i think its time for me to get sum more skills. I need to get a more variety in my solo's etc... just finger tapping and hammerons / pulloffs are gettin boring. Could any of you guys help teach me how to arpegio / sweep pick on a 6 string guitar? i know you guys are all talking about bass sweeping and stuff but i didnt see a thread on normal guitar sweeping etc... Just any like basic excercises or videos would be much appretiated :) Thanks a bundle.

You might have heard this before but Start slow and keep it clean im not aware of any secret way of learning other then lots of Practice . A metronome is very helpful aswell , If you look over on the Necrophagist board you might have better luck with your questions.

Yeah, unfortunately I don't think it will help you a lot to hear some explanations from bassists 'cause as a guitarist, you have to master the use of the pick to sweep tightly...

I can sort of do it, i can get the motion of my right hand right. just need to get a bit faster on the left hand :) Should be able to get it in about a week or so if a play 4+ hours a day :)

when I was learning sweeps I broke them down into parts...for example if it was a 5 string sweep I would take the first 2 & do that sweep, then add the 3d,4th & then the 5th

Please learn important things like vibrato, grace notes, legato and phrasing before you concentrate all your time on sweeping, if you haven't already. :)

Don't know what you intend tabbing but personnally I would kill for the "tapping two voices", the ripsaw line and the chordal-tapping !!!

Hey dude, if you haven't yet checked em, check some of Erlend's videos, he provides the links to the tabs on a few of his videos I believe.. while I don't have any tabbed exercises of my own that I can think from the top of my head, I can get back to you on this though, i'll try and make one up for ya..

Well I think to double thump, you slap with the thumb, then you hammer on with your fretboard hand, then push the thumb back out from the string? But yeah if you have any integrated riffs, sure dude!
