View Full Version : Embryonics vinyl - Testing interest!
Hey People,
The band is considering releasing Embryonics as a double vinyl pressing. It would be limited edition - a few hundred pressed.
Anyone interested?

I don't have a record player, but I would buy it for the street cred. :D
Any chance of selling it through your website and autographing the first "x" number of pre-orders? Sounds like a great idea to me!

Depends on cost and how much spare cash I've got at the time! The idea of some of your artwork 'full size' appeals though.....
Peace, Glen.
Cool Pyro, yeah the resolution is there for the cover. We'll have to trim the track list down to fit, but it would be cool. We are also pretty strapped for cash so I'm not sure about the extras. Numbering them sounds like a good idea. No idea about price yet, we would be doing it like merch. I can't see it being cheaper than the CD version, 17 to 24 AU sounds pretty cheap. I had imagined about $30 aprox. - thinking that was about right. What doubles are you getting for $17 - thats really good hey!
Anything for you Crazy Mary! - sigs no worries

A vinyl release, GREAT!!!! If this goes well, will you consider releasing the others on vinyl as well?? Having the artwork on a proper size will already be a reason to buy the vinyl versions.
Can you imagine to have 'Austral Alien' in a gatefold sleeve, WOW!!!!!!
Count me in for a few. I'll see if I can sell some on this side of the globe for you as well.

$30 is my cut-off point :D I've still got dibs on the first one!
Anyway, The End Records is where I get most of my vinyl (and a lot of CDs) from. The strong Aussie dollar is awesome. They've actually just finished a big vinyl sale where loads of titles were about 10-15% off: http://theendrecords.com/omega/
Here's their exclusive vinyl titles: http://shopping.theendrecords.com/s.nl/sc.9/category.2025/.f
And the non-exclusives: http://shopping.theendrecords.com/s.nl/sc.2/category.22/.f
It's only $4US shipping for the first two items, then $2US per item after that. Vinyl LPs (be they single or double) range from $11.50US-$16US generally, with some exceptions going higher but generally it's nothing I'm interested in.
Shipping is fast as fuck too....usually takes a week-flat and you can get 8% off your total order the first time if you use one of their codes and to top it all off, orders over $150US (not that I make a lot hahaha) get a $10 voucher for next time.
Moral of the story, foreign exchange rates + bulk purchases during sales + discount vouchers = win.
p.s. The End are not only the best Metal distro on earth, but in terms of quality and uniqueness of bands, the best Label too :P
I'd be interested in such a release as well - mainly because I'd love to have bigger versions of your great cover artworks. Also I wonder what inner sleeve madness you'd come up with!!! In addition to that a limited Alchemist-release makes me drool like one of my beloved Aliens ...!
Oh and once you're at it, why don't you start work on a big Alchemist-coffee table-book filled to the brim with hi-res versions of your art on quality paper?!
I'll see if I can sell some on this side of the globe for you as well.
You do have the lobes of a Ferengi, don't you?! ;-) Just kidding, mate! Everything serves ALCHEMIST!!!

Hey i saw advertised today the flyer for the Sydney gig.
Awesome!
Also on the flyer it had that Embryonics was Out Now through Chatterbox.
False advertising from Chatterbox
:(
Hey Danfly, It's our fault it says out now. Release date is the 10th of Oct - I'm told. The band produce all the advertising - by the week of the first gig it will be right! But your right - it ain't out but the flyers are! out soon sounds lame and would be out of date by the gigs. All water under the bridge come October.
Yeah Mick, I like the book idea, sounds expensive though. I have been doing some book stuff at work, can get them printed in China for a few bucks each if you get 5000 at once. Can't see it happening for a while or untill I get cashed up big time! one day.

Cool!
Understand why you had to have that on the flyer. Cool flyer though.
Another 10 days to wait. Hopefully Utopia or JB Hi Fi will have it ready to go on the 10th!

Any chance of a special shit + vinyl deal at the gig?
Vinyl wont be ready for the shows... still sorting it out.
The 10th release date may be a day or two later as the masters had to be re-sent, there was a pop or some shit. We are still expecting to have the CD's at the shows.

Bit quiet here lately. *Looks distastefully at dead forum members strewn in corners*
So anyway.....I am still interested in the vinyl. Is it likely to get off the ground?

*also still interested*
Well we kind of swamped in the writing of the new stuff and are really focusing on that, the push into new territory is kind of overwhelming, no ones been looking back that much. Still keen, but we won't be doing a string of shows for a while so there’s not that much pressure really
Thanx a lot for replying to us!
(Great work, CrazyMary! :D )

Wow, this sounds very promising and elating! Keep it up!!!

So this project is only adjourned instead of being cancelled, isn't it?

I would be interested. I don't have a record player, nor would I ever play it, but vinyl is good for bands that put a lot of work into the artwork. I just recently bought the Celtic Frost Monotheist vinyl, for which I just got word that only 60 were distributed in the US, of which, I have three. The reason I bought it was because of how much they put into the artwork and it should be seen as it really was intended. Alchemist puts so much into the art, and the cover for Embryonics attracted me to the cd in the first place. Great bands that give the fans a great package is what will save them. I remember back in the day where albums simply had the cover and the cd and nothing inside. That greed from the record companies is what led to the mass market to not care about having that physical package in hand anymore and paved the way to digital-intangible media.
Here's how CF did it:

And two of the three cd covers are in my signature.

i would definatly buy it it would sit nicely next to war of the worlds on vinyl :emot-boun
I still think this release would be an awesome addition to my collection ... *dreams*
I just saw the pictures at http://www.nasum.com/view_article.php?id=49 and imagined what an equivalent version of "Embryonics" would look like ...
Can I do anything to help you get this project rolling? Shall I fold cardboard, mix glue, clean the press or kidnap the kids of some suit to help him decide in favor of this item, e.g.?! ;)

although I'm not into Nasum, the lp box set looks great. I sure hope the boys will be up for doing a vinyl 'Embryonics' version.
although I'm not into Nasum
I saw them live when they opened for Napalm Death about six years ago and was pretty impressed with them.
the lp box set looks great.
That's right! Now imagine what Roy could do with such a package!
In addition to that I think it's worth noting that Nasum was a Relapse band, too, so the label might be open to allow ALCHEMIST a similar release?!

So do I! I'm not even sure anymore when I bought my last LP ... but this'd be the perfect item to start with again! :D

But the Nasum lp box isn't done by Relapse. Same goes for Alchemist, they could do it themselves if they are interested. Relapse is only interested if the quantaties are high I think.

I know, but the copyright of their recordings is held by Relapse & Chatterbox, respectively, isn't it? Wouldn't these labels therefore have to at least agree on any other form of release?

I don't know what sort of contracts Alchemist has off course, but I think 'Embryonics' was a license deal, which means that the band is the owner of the recordings.

That'd be cool! I hope you're right. I mean, you know one hell of a lot more about these things than I do. I just thought the Relapse-connection was a good omen in this regard.
So where can I pre-order my two (So that I can use both sides of the covers as posters!) copies of this awesome "Embryonics"-4LP-set?! :1pirate:
The Turd

I'd buy it because, with a decent record player, amp and speakers, vinyl blows CDs out of the water for sound. There is a "warmth" to the sound, unlike the sterility of CDs.

On a similar scale, that's why I wouldn't trade my car's tape deck for a CD player!

If people are still interested in Alchemist on vinyl, then you might like the following idea.
If Alchemist will tour Europe, and I can work out proper pre-sales, 'Tripsis' will be released on coloured vinyl, in a limited run of 500.
From the money made by sales from that one, then a next title will be pressed, again a limited run of 500 coloured lp's, probebly in a gatefold sleeve.
Fingers crossed this is going to work
If Alchemist will tour Europe
What do you mean by "if"? Has nothing been finalized - except for headlining the "ProgPower"-festival - by Rene, yet? *pushes panic button*

So are you gonna open your own record label now? :emot-eek:
Will it be called "ALCHEMIST Records" or "Viking Records"? ;-)

Don't panic, the tour is going to happen. It's just that I hope they have enough shows before the record will be pressed. The record will be for sale at the shows, and to sell as much as possible, we need as much shows as possible. And we need a lot of shows for the fun of having the shows
So are you gonna open your own record label now? :emot-eek:

I haven't decided on those two questions yet, but if I start my own record label, it will most likely be called viking records or something like that.
It could be done without having a record label though.

I think I only need help getting the record sold, so ask as many of your friens if they are interested in buying one.
This goes for all people outside of Holland anyway, as then we can use combined shipping, and that will be a lot cheaper.

pressing just 500 lp's is expencive, and you can hardley make money on it. It's also a lot of work, so I can understand they are not interested. If they decide to do it, great, as that safes me a lot of work and trouble. It's just that I would like to have Alchemist on vinyl as well, so like to try this first release. If it works out, it's possible to do some of the previous albums as well.

Allow me to quote Spock in this context, please:
I do not approve. I understand.

Maybe a little more promotion would help?

me to, as I would love to work my way back through the Alchemist discography, and do gatefold sleeves, double lp's, coloured vinyls, picture discs, and what not. Let's just hope this first one will be released, as it's still not 100% sure.

Relapse only press bands to viynl who sell enough CDs, Alchemist dose not sell enough for them to do it, Matt jacobson , Relapse head has said in the past that he wont mind us pressing a few ourselfs But as this was years ago I am still waiting for his reconfirmation that the viking can press, Im 99% sure it will be all cool:grn1:
Thank you very much for sharing this information! I appreciate it.

Did Nasum, e.g., really sell more than you guys?
I have a hard time believing that.
But if that really is the case then it proves that I don't know shit about the music business and only think with my gut.
