i like it. but i cant help but feel a little disappointed. its just not what i was expecting, i was expecting something that would blow my mind and become an instant classic. so much build up, with the return of worm and after 5 years, i cant help but feel i was certainly expecting A LOT better.

i enjoy this album, but after all the build up im disappointed. passable as a good album, but certainly no classic.

the mix is terrible

The ones that blow you away instantly more often than not become boring after a while. I'm glad that that didn't happen for you.

thats very true, its just i have extremely mixed feelings about this album. it just seems really sloppy.

ok after about 6 or 7 listens of the album. i think my feelings on it have grown a little toward the positive side.

however...as much as i love lord worm on the old albums, as cool as it was hearing he was back in the band, and how awesome his lyrics are, i feel i would have rathered an unheard more professional sounding death metal vocalist over this music.

some of this music is unbelievable, but lord worms vocals make it sound terrible sometimes.

I personally love this album.... i was expecting a great cd but honestly this is more than what i was expecting. Such an interesting listen.

I actually would say i like this album better than any of their other works.

ok ive been listening to it all yesterday and all night and the FINAL verdict from me is..

i really really like it, musically, its up there with NSV and WS..easily. the mix could have been a lot better but thats all good, not too much to worry about there. also, i know you cunts wont like this, but i feel a better vocalist would have made this album so much better for me. worm was so good on the old stuff when it was raw and brutal, but i think this music needs somthing more refined and proffessional. martin would have done a good job over this music...

..and holy fucking SHIT, on carrionshine do you hear those snare blasts at 45 sec. after that weird little riff?? thats FUCKING inhuman to say the least. another stella performance from flo.

carrionshine, in the kingdon where everyhting dies, the sky is mortal and angelskingarden are my favourite tracks.

thats all from me now.

I think the fastest blast starts at 4:09 in angelskingarden. I cant really tell though, my mind starts melting trying to comprehend what is going on.

Not true for me at all... Almost every album where my first impression was really good, I usually end up loving, like: Pierced from Within, Erosion of Sanity, Legion, Human, Focus, Inbreeding the Anthropophagi, Epitaph, Tomb of the Mutilated and so on have been classics for me from day one. Maybe different for other people.

damn matt you always take the words right out of my mouth, that why i love DECREPIT BIRTH......once i heard the whole album i was blown away it's a definate 10/10 the vocal were sick as hell one of his best preformances.. the guitars are great i like all the classical interludes, and the solo's alex went off in carrionshine i love that wammy solo...and the bass would unbelievable i forget what song ,but he has a bass solo and it kills... and flo well you all know...

the track is kind of growing on me. it is reassuring to know, however, that this isn't what the entire album is like. carrionshine was badass and the hardcore cryptopsy fans say the album is good, so my only concern is how soon ill be able to buy it.

Oh man I have to share a portion of a review I found on Metal-Archives, Ive never laughed so hard in my life. Some people are just absolutely clueless.

""Flo Mournier has surpassed himself again on the drums. I'll give the guy some credit, hes speedy and intense. But hes also triggered and has weak chops, i've seen him live and he was sloppier than a baby in a bowl of cake batter. Additionally, it appears that he has now added the infamous "gravity blast" to his tool belt of worthless and stupid un-talents. On the plus side, he comes with some rather original patterns and utilizes his kit rather wisely. Overall though he is quite overrated.
If you are a fan of original or talented guitarists, look elsewhere than this band. Aside from a few choice cuts on Blasphemy Made Flesh, they have churned out heaps of yawn inducing "brutal" and "mosh" riffs casting aside any semblance of melody, harmony or viable song structure. These songs dont have a small toe to stand on when it comes to memorability or composition. In the long run these shitty start / stop riffs and moshable, unmusical and repetitious metalcore parts will get you nothing but teenage girls to show you their tits.""

What an idiot. HAHAHAHA

Damn I hate those people that always say: "The first album was great , everything else released is shit , I didn't listen to it but it must since its not the first album" So narrow minded. Flo is a great drummer and the riffs Alex, Jon and the other guitarist wrote for Cryptopsy are ass kicking. Maybe someone people are stupid so that their brain can't handle complex music. Ahm well sad sad guys.

the fuckin riff at like 1:50 in "Carrionshine" makes me want to bash soemones head in so fuckin bad. Goddamn this CD really does kick ass. I can actually get past the vocals cause the music for this CD is fuckin incredible. Seeing them with Suffocation will just be the bomb.

yes, theres certainly some memorable moments on this cd thats for sure. but goddamn, some if it bloody tedious to listen to as well.

im not denying the overrall brilliance of this recording though. even if the mix is kinda dull.

The new album is slowly growing on me. It only lives up to half my expectations really though. I can't put it in my top 3 of cryptopsy albums, unfortunately. All in all it is a good album, and some of it really KILLS hard, but other parts, are just kinda, I dunno.
The more I listen to it, the more I like it though, but I'd hate to brainwash myself into saying it's a total masterpiece, because it isn't. New Hate Eternal is prob my favorite of the year so far really. I'd have to give once was not, a 7/10, maybe an 8 next week.

Of course, all the big death metal heads who like monotonous subsonic speed strumming non-stop are talking about this album having annoying "parts" OMGFORZRZ SPOKEN WRODS WTF.

This album is fucking genius, there is no two ways about it. This album borrows from all previous efforts. The vocals on Blasphemy Made Flesh, the classically influenced solos on None So Vile, the bludgeoning tech blasts of Whisper Supremacy, the occasionally starts and stops of And Then You'll Beg, and the new influence of acoustic and ambient interludes...and Flo's drumming which has been taken to unbelieveable new heights, the drumming still puts me at awe, even though the guitar riffs and espcially the leads are solid as ever, if not more.

the music is fuckin great the only problem is the sound that is terrible maybe they should rely the sound job to Yannick St-Amand and Jf Dagenais they are simply the best

lol that is pretty fuckin funny
i think the album is awesome but i just feel that comparing it to and then you'll beg its just soo poor, and about worm's vocals, at one point i thought i was listening to lordgore.. and in the absence of one particular member this is definately my least favourite cryptopsy album so far, i do hope that the majority of the tour is made up of old stuff.
and that album cover does look fucking sweet, and i will still definately be buying the album

Grommell
09-20-2005, 04:05 AM
I am completely satisfied with the album. It lived upto every expectation and hope I had for Worms return and new material. Its not NSV 2 or WS 2 or anything like that, It is a stand alone effort that demands attention and pushes the envelope in all directions for the Band. Worms vocals are sick as ever (cant wait to read the lyrics), Guitars kill, bass is top rate- Everything has been said already about Flo and its all true.

Weather its their best album yet is questionable. It is definatly the most challenging, compelling and diverse release they have put out. 9.5/10.

I'll wait to buy a hard copy of the CD before I comment on the production.

Just finished a batch of work, so the cash is coming in, "Once Was Not" on pre-order... Exxx-cccelent!! :devilange
Apart from the fact that I was gonna order it anyway, the chances of it being in any local record store for me to line up at are fucking non-existent.

All this feedback from the fans is justing building my excitement. It seems that Cryptopsy have drawn on their past accomplishments to enter a bold new phase, I can't wait. I confess: I forced myself to go on a Cryptopsy fast for the past five months and haven't listened to any of my albums so I can come into the new one fresh, then see how it fits into the catalogue. I've been tiding myself over on Aborted, Pig Destroyer, Napalm Death, (old) Kataklysm and Anal Blast until the release. Not much longer now...
... it's coming... :eplus2:
