I know this seems far fetched..
but a friend of mine claims he helped Flo Mounier with his gravity blast technique for this new album.
Seeing as Cryptopsy I imagine wouldn't have time for advice from fans, I'm not sure if this is true, but I've been told this with a straight face on many an occasion.
His name is Tim Olsen and he plays drums for Ottawa grindcore band Fuck The Facts. I know Flo is busy but could someone shed some light on this for me, is it true?
Does Flo Mounier even know Tim Olsen?
Thank you

Since most of the drummers on blastology are very friendly and trying to help each other out I wouldn't doubt it. Drummers seem more likely to help each other than for exsample guitarists are.
So maybe your friend says the truth or otherwise not. I think Flo and your friend Tim are the only ones who know the truth.

I personally know Tim Olsen back from when he was the Drummer for the Donner Party. That was when Matt Connell (Exhumed) was drumming for Fuck the Facts.
Anyways, I know for a fact that Tim and Flo have talked on numerous occasions, but I can't guarantee that Tim helped Flo with the G-blast. Matt would have been the one that Helped Tim though, way back in the day.

Yeah, Tims getting pretty fucking awsome. He doesn't do them all the time, but he can do them. I talked to Topon last night (=Deamon bass & FTF guitar/vox) about this thread and he laughed about it and said "Why the fuck do people even talk about shit like that online? That's why I hate Chat Forums, cuz someone says one little thing and then everybody is hating on us"
He doesn't know if Tim taught flo or not. You could ask Flo. I'm sure he reads these threads anyway.

What should we talk about, oh mighty FTF guitarist?

He's a cool dude. I just think he was worried that rumors we're going to start flying around. They're all good lads. (Except mel, she's a lass.)

I know that Tim has shared a repoire with Flo on more than one occasion. Altho I highly doubt that Flo "learned" the g-blast from Tim, I wouldnt doubt that they have probably discussed their different viewpoints on the technique. And, although to the best of my knowledge, I was doing them before Tim was, I dont think I officially ever "taught" it to him.
Tim has taken over for me in a band, I have also taken over for him in a band before, and everytime I'm up in ottawa me and him hang out and drink beer, and inevitably end up talking alot of drum talk. So, I would say that we have both gotten alot from each other as drummers.
I only every did gravity blasts in a few spots with FTF, i think in about 3 different songs total. I think Tim has added them into a few of the old songs here and there, and I know he is using them a bit more in the new material, at least he was when I watched their last band practice...
In the end, I think much too big a deal is made about the "gravity blasts", because well frankly, its not that hard! it takes a little while to get the trick of it down, but in the grand scheme of things it really is quite an easy skill to learn...

Hey to everyone involved, I think it's awesome that Matt pretty much cleared that up for me. I am really sorry if I got Topon, Mel or Tim pissed or even Flo, I never said "taught" i didn't think, I think i said helped with, but whatever. My apologies guys to all. I am a huge fan of FTF and Cryptopsy and didn't mean to start anything that would upset either side.
Thank you for answering Matt, and to whoever was talking to Topon, please tell him this thread meant no disrespect or false rumors.
I'll now return to my lame job
Thanks

Well Matt, I just bought an Alesis compressor/limiter off Matt from Decrepit Birth. He's mailing it to me tomorrow. I'm going to try to fuck around with it. I have an idea that may help my gravity blast sound a little cleaner. I thought instead of using triggers, I could mic the snare with a Hypercardioid mic and use the limiter/compressor to knock my hard strikes down so they are limited at the same level my G-blast hits are usually at (which are light), then I 'll crank the channel output up on the soundboard, bringing the snare volume back up to normal.... Just an Idea, but I think it may work.
Have you heard Beneath the Massacre yet? Killer stuff.
