Roy, I hate to repeat myself but in order to let the other guys know what I think as well and to get the discussion moving:
Well, you know ... what can I say? I don't know that much about graphics and art. The cover makes me wish LPs were still around so that I could enjoy it on a big cover instead of only on these small CD-booklets!
Man, I love your cover! How did you think I'd like it?! It's beautiful! To me it has an awesome surrealistic quality to it (Surrealism is my favourite epoch in art history. I just don't understand the abstract stuff.) the cover looks darkly spiritual and eerily mythical. I think it conveys the title "Embryonics" in a true Alchemist-sense. Do you know what I mean?
Hey, what happened to that silverish gray circle from your first draft that made the entire image look like some sort of (mental / lunar / solar) eclipse and gave it that weird schizophrenic look?
How did you approach the design of the cover?
What did the guys at Relapse say about it?

Something fishy is going on..but all the replies I made in the last couple of days on the smn forums have vanished...so I will say it again, in less detail.

Fucking killer. 100% fitting to the music of Alchemist, and in typical fashion, it looks highly polished and just all around excellent...which brings me to my next point. Any chance of a copy at 1856x1392 to fill my ludicrously large desktop background? :D

I'm also keen to read the answers to the Q's posed by Mick.

Hmmm, yeah, the circle or eclipse that surrounded the head - I'm in two minds about. I like the element but it reduced the size of the head and is somewhat like the borer around the austral cover - not the same - but the same thinking! The circular stuff is used throughout the layout in different forms. I will review it once again and take your comments on board Mick. - As for the artwork concept, it was constructed to the Embryonics idea and meant to symbolise an explosion of thought and ideas, a psychedelic whirl of activity in a controlled state. The alien - is a bit of a metaphor for left of centre thought, or a physical conception of weird ideas, ideas into flesh or in Alchemist's case ideas in to concepts or songs. I had a rough idea but the artwork really just evolved.

Have you ever seen the artwork on Dio's 'Strange Highways' album (1993)

Not a criticism of any sort, probably just showing you my brain's still functioning even if my ticker isn't!

Doesn't look anything like your cover of course, just the angle of the head....

Nah, I haven’t seen the Dio cover - just about to have a look now - I think by nature of using a human head - there will always be similar ideas out there. It also reminds me of Powderfingers vulture street for the same reason. I'll just go and look up that Dio cover - cheers

I see, I hadn't taken the smaller size of the head into account at first.

Yeah Mick, the DVD will use the same art - probably modified to look unique - perhaps a colour shift or only half the head - something like that. Should look pretty good as part of the interface too.
