I would not say I absolutely dislike Darkthrone but I feel they are the most overrated of the wellknown bands.
I despise the sell-outs like Ulver, ...and Oceans ( musically and spiritually), but then they don't claim to be Black Metal any longer.

What is wrong with you guys? Many of you seem to think that a black metal band sucks when they start to have good-sounding recording. Immortal's Damned in Black and Sons of Northern Darkness are their best albums, in my opinion. Darkthrone is very overrated. I enjoy black metal, but I can't stand that shitty quality music. It's just stupid. Burzum sucks, Darkthrone sucks, Dark Funeral sucks, and the latest Dimmu Borgir album is horrendous. And, what the fuck do you guys have against Cradle of Filth? to me, immortal suck because their compositions suck. they just didn't write good music any more... their first 2 albums are quite ok though..
cradle are even worse than Gimme Burgers...-have you seen them (resp. dani) perform live??--then you should know what I mean...

and I really appreciate darkthrone, they've done some of my absolute fave music, but haven't delivered anything striking since Total Death, and that's almost 10 years ago by now...

Marduk play a distinctive type of Black Metal.
Their last two albums show improved musicianship coupled with a slightly more 'mainstream' direction ( esp the instrumental leads, more varied lyrical content and subject matter) and much better production
Alas, they are now essentially history, having lost everyone except the head honcho.
I guess that this is due to being on the shit list for Visas here in the US, but who can say for certain...
I loved them live and their last 5 studio albums reside in my permanent collection.

There really aren't any Black Metal bands I dislike really. I don't listen to Burzum much, although I think the music (especially on the self titled) is pretty decent.

Its quite lame that Cradle are marketed as a Black Metal band. I mean, in a way, its a mocking to Black Metal. The music is just so sugar coated and "un-evil" (is that even a word?) its just completely missing the point of what BM is. Having said that, I do actually like some of Cradle's music. I own Dusk, Cruelty and Midian.

If someone thinks Darkthrone are really bad, I can absolutely understand that, as they aren't a band that I myself can just sit down and listen to. They have a horrible, eerie, bleak (I could go on) atmosphere, especially the first three of their Black Metal albums. The ideal setting to listen to them would be in an old haunted castle that has long candlelit corridoors and is hidden deep in the Norwegian woods...or something like that. Its quite funny actually, last year before Wacken 2003, I was dreaming they would play Wacken, and then they were confirmed for 2004! 100% wickedness!! Hopefully they'll play some "Panzerfaust" material!

Yeah, its a real shame about Marduk. Legion was a great front man too. I remember when I saw them in London, and he decided to jump off the stage and climb onto the barrier right next to me and then crowd surf while screaming. That was great! Musically they pulverised every other band on the bill that night.

I absolutely don't like Varg ideologically but I leave that out for a moment. Why I dislike his music is because of his voice, which is the most terrible black metal voice in my opinion. That's why I really don't like his black metal albums.

hell, that's sure understandable. at times his voice is powerless, I agree, but I think on the other hand he created some of the best rhythms I've heard in the whole bm-scene (esp. on his self-titled)...

HaHa, this is really funny: the first Limbonic Art I heard was their last CD.
I liked it!! So I bought their next-to-last. It was even better...
When I bought all the others I realised the awful truth: the last 2 were far weaker than the others and, somewhat, sell-outs.
Starting from their last and moving back upstream was like going up a polluted river to the pure springs at it's source. :)

I dont get this!! How can a so called fan of blackmetal HATE almighty Taake, which in my oppinion is one of the very best BM-bands ever... The nostalgia in his (Hørst) music mixed with the nordic "feeling" is great, and... Shit, why do I even bring it up?? You must suck!!!

Yeah, I know it.. I have everything by Taake and Thule (the old name)!! I never said anything about musical masterpieces, and besides, I dont wanna defend what you already have heard!

"Nattestid Ser Porten Vid" & "Over Bjoergvin Graater Himmerik" is exellent blackmetal, but you dont get the lyrics anyways, so you can't really get the total sum of Taakes work.
Me however, actually reads and writes futhark-runes, so I guess the intellectual level is limited to people -able to dig into Taakes universe, and not only listeners with deaf ears!
