First album I bought back in '88 was 'Leprosy' (a good start!). and thought Jesus its been 16 years of death! I'm 33 now! shit. Anyway not many death metal fans left now where I am in the UK. How about you guys How old, how long and what was the first album/CD you bought?

Cheers for now.

I'm 24 and started listening to Metal in 1992, Death Metal since 1993 and I started with Unleashed and Morbid Angel... "Where no life dwells" and "Abominations of desolation" where the first two Death Metal albums I've ever listened to.

The most extreme stuff I knew back then was Kreator, Sodom and Tankard and I was like "Wtf is that?". When "Pierced from within" came out and a friend got it, it was the same... haha...

I'm 31...

Started getting into metal around 1989. I was way into Slayer, Destruction, Metallica, Exodus, Violence, etc...

One day I went to a local record store and got a free "Relativity records" sampler tape. It had a Joe Satriani song on it (that's why I picked it up) but it also had "Genetic Reconstruction" by death. Holy shit! I kept playing that tune over and over and over...

I picked up their 3 albums immediately and then one of the duded I worked with told me about Obituary (he was from Tampa) and I picked up "Cause of Death"

At that same time, we moved and I got a job at a kick-ass indie record store. I was exposed to all of the now-classic bands there. I was able to get new releases ahead of time, I got promo tapes and I knew when all the new shit was coming out so I could be ready with $$$.

Man, I think of all those classic albums that came out within those 2 years..

Malevolent Creation- Ten Commandments
Incantation- Onward to Golgotha
Cannibal Corpse- Eaten back to life and Butchered at birth
Not to mention Morbid Angel, Carcass,Deicide,etc...etc...

I remember reading the press-release for "Effigy of the forgotten" just before it came out. In it they quoted Scott Burns as saying "it's the heaviest album I've ever recorded" This is from the guy who did Obituary, Deicide, Malevolent, Cannibal Corpse...

If he said it it must be true! I got it when it first came out and shit man he was right...it's STILL the heaviest album he produced!

I am 23 and have been listening to death metal for 5 years. I started out liking punk in Junior High/High School then moved on to Pantera/Slayer/Fear Factory in HS...then in college of my friends got me into Cryptopsy (None So Vile) and ever since then death metal has been my favorite genre. I love old school stuff the best like Suffocation, Malevolent Creation, early Deicide, Immolation, etc., but I also listen to a ton of new new stuff too. I wish I had gotten into death metal earlier but oh well.

Im 28... first metal album was Mercyful Fate "Dont Break The Oath"... first shows were Mercyful Fate/Celtic Frost/Megadeth in early 85 and Venom/Metallica in 85... I was lucky enough to have a friend the same age as me with a cool cousin that was about 20 and knew all metal, so he introduced us, dragged us to shows, played us records, got us stoned... all that good stuff...

...first "death metal" cassette I bought was a import copy of Napalm Death "Scum" in 87.... changed my life....

Ah the old days....I feel young again (I’m not exactly a corpse yet though!). HatredEmbodied/James your right when you say life changing. I got into metal in about '85 with Maiden and progressively got into the faster more extreme stuff (I remember getting 'Reign in Blood' on Christmas day '86 all my friends thought I was wacko). Did the usual thrash thing Anthrax, Slayer, Exodus, etc. read a review somewhere of Leprosy got it and could not believe my ears. There was something hypnotic about it. Anyway got 'Slowly we rot' next and 'left hand path' and that cemented my musical tastes for the next 16 years. Was in a few local bands for some years did a demo back in '96! did some gigs etc, but thats as far as the band thing went. I remember reading an interview with Frank before 'Effigy ..' came out he was saying 'you won't believe our drummers blast beats!!' when it hit the stores I went out and got it and Frank was right, I was in astonishment. Thanks for your thoughts folks!!
Cheers.

I'm 26... started listening to stuff like KISS when I was 4-5, eventually got into Metallica/Slayer/Megadeth and the rest in the early 80s. First death metal album I had was Hellhammer "Apocalyptic Raids" back in '85/'86. Didn't get into Suffocation until just after "Pierced From Within" was released, actually bought that CD through BMG of all places.

I'm 26, The first metal album I got was Motley Crue "Too Fast for Love" haha! that was back in 1985. Quickly, I got into bands like Megadeth, Anthrax, Metallica, Slayer, and Testament. The first death metal album I got was, Death "Spiritual Healing" right when it came out in 1990 I think. After that I got Morbid Angel "Blessed are the Sick", even though I knew about death metal and had a few death metal albums, I didn’t become under the spell until I heard the first Deicide a little bit later. I got into Suffocation right before they came out with "Breeding the Spawn". I heard "Effigy of the Forgotten" and I thought that was the most insane, brutal album ever created!!!! Funny thing is, I still do!!!

Well, I'm almost 24 yrs. old. I got into music/metal about 11 years ago with Napalm Death's "Harmony Corruption" and "Utopia Banished", early Deicide and Cannibal Corpse stuff and a lot of late 80's British Hardcore/Grindcore and early Swedish Death Metal...

I'm 33 years old... First tape I got was ZZ Top's "Eliminator", and then Van Halen's "1984"... Didn't get into the heavier shit until I heard Metallica in 1987... Picked up "Master Of Puppets" and "Garage Days" immediately after... I find as the years go by, my taste in music gets heavier the older I get... Every year, I find something more brutal and heavy than the last...

Born in 75. First 'real' tape was Prince Purple Rain, before that I just taped "Break Dance music" off K-Day (before it was called rap in my area.) - Hated metal with a passion.

Used to make fun of my friend for listening to some goofy band called Metallica. "dugga duggah duggah" - FF to 1990 - Heard "and Justice" again at a 40K game. Noticed on the bus I kept humming the riffs. - Saw the tape later at a friends house and listened to it over and over again as I was drawing.

I confessed to myself 'justice' was the only good metal that existed... But soon started bugging the guys with Slayer and Megadeth shirts in my English class about other stuff... It was still only a mild curiosity until...

Somebody let me hear 'Blood Red' and 'Spirit in Black' on their walkman. - and that was it. - just like a vampirical transformation... Right in the middle of English class I became a full blood 'Hesher.'

Death 'Human' and Carcass 'necrotacism' where my first 2 Death Metal records and I couldn't have picked a classier entrance.

I honestly can't remember which one was my first metal show, either Carcass, CC or...?

When I first got to high school, their were easily 100 metal heads, by the time I graduated most of them sold out to grunge. I entered high school one of the nay-sayers and graduated founder and president of the school's 'Death Metal Club' (metal dork) ...One of 8 remaining passionate metal heads. Kurt Kobain Shot himself, I threw a party. Even out of those 8, I don't think I know anybody who's still apeshit about metal, let alone Death Metal.

When I graduated, daddy warbucks offered to vacation me anywhere in the world. I chose Tampa, so I could visit Morrisound and see where some of my favorite records (especially back then) had been recorded. I spoke to some really cool guy. Brutality had just completed recording their first record.

I´m 26, started to metal with an anthrax tape in 1989, with the "I´m the man" ep recorded on it. I remember spent hours listening to the cover of "sabbath bloody sabbath". Then i started to buy anthrax vynil...then one day i was boring in my sister´s fried house and discover a copy of "pleasure to kill" by kreator...i put it on a discman and suddenly my vision of what music should be was forever changed. Then i bought my first CD: Scum/F.E.T.O (2 in 1) by Napalm Death and totally blow me away, as well as the first Death Metal record i bought: effigy of the forgotten

Born in 1980. my evolution was rather slow. I grew up on led zep and the animals. after hearing a very, very old sabbath ep of my father's collection, I got into classic metal, then into brutal thrash (early sepultura, kreator, sodom, slayer, destruction and the likes).

in 98, I finally got into death metal, with blessed are the sick, human, necroticism, and whisper supremacy which was my first real brutal experience
IT WAS A FUCKING WOW
then suffo (WOW AGAIN), gorguts, disgorge, and so on.

I'm 29. It all started with Ozzy and Maiden back in '86. My sisters boyfriend at the time left Live After Death and Ultimate Sin at the house. I was totally hooked!! I progressed to King Diamond and Slayer and all the other normal bands everyone got into in the late 80's. After that It just snowballed!! I got into Anthrax and Pantera. Then it happened. My buddy let me borrow Tomb of the Mutilated, Cannibal Corpse. It was the fucking sickest shit I had ever heard. I have been into this shit ever since...I think that was like 92? The next big album for me was Death-Human. Being a big King fan, the next Death record, Individual Thought Patterns with Andy Laroque on guitar was perfect. I'm so into all this shit it's crazy. It's like a drug!!

Just turned 27 and have been listening to DM since I was 14. Just like most of you guys I started out slow. My best friends when i was a kid introduce me to stuff like Ozzy,Skid Row,DRI, and Metallica. I was totally hooked and begged my parents for cash so I could run out and get me anything by slayer and metallica(Kill'em All was my first album I bought). Soon after, I started to listen to my local radio show who started playing the heavier stuff like Deicide, death and Malevolent Creation. I nearly shit my pants when I first heard "Dead By Dawn" by Deicide and "Premature Burial" by Malevolent Creation...I was like this is soo fucking heavy!!!. That right there change my life and how I listen to music. I then again begged my parents for more money and went out to buy several death metal tapes for the first time. They were Malevolent Creation-The 10 Commandments,Napalm Death-Death By Manipulation and Morbid Angel-Bless Are The Sick. So here I am still goin strong, hoping there will be heavier stuff out there,if thats even possible! My favorite current band are Suffocation,Gorgasm,Decrepit Birth,Visceral Bleeding, both Disgorge,Intense Hammer Rage,Imperious,Vaginal Carnage,Deeds Of Flesh and Cock And Ball Torture.

Almost 29. I started out young. VH :1984 in 1984, AC/DC, went through some of the "hair bands" Motley Crue and such, quickly jumped to thrash. Slayer, Metallica ( when they were good ) Testament, Anthrax, Megadeth etc. Got introduced to my first Death Metal with Napalm Deaths' Harmony Corruption. ( It's still my fav. Napalm ) then most of the other DM sorta all fell into place in a hurry. Basiclly my music got heavier as I got older. It's funny, in interviews, Scott Ian has often said he's the oldest guy in the pit. Well, I'm going to be the oldest chick in the pit...( haha. )

After listening to that album i started to get into more more metal and eventually abandoned Nu metal(thank god) My first DM cd was Deicide-Scars of The Crucifix and Vehemence-Helping the world to see. Pretty good start for someone like me. Not many Dm fans in my school....just me basically

although this has become a bit repettitive..

I'm 16, I got into death metal a year or so ago.. I had been a nu-metal listener for a while *cowers in shame*... and then bought Scar Culture's 'Inscribe'.. which got me hooked on extreme metal. Early death metal I got into was scar culture, of course.. Napalm death, and Iniquity. It took me a while to actually enjoy the low growling and I hated it at first.. SC's "vision" has an amazing section towards the end of the song with low stuff that began the transition. Right now my favorite bands are ones like Aborted, Cryptopsy, Suffocation, Skinless, dying fetus, iniquity, Immolation, fleshgrind, and I'm starting to love Origin.

Well, my first album was "Show no mercy". I got that taped from a friend. Everytime I had a bad day in school (and there were a lot of bad days) I put the tape in, headphones on and listened to it by near maximum volume.
What a rush!!!
Of course my mother hated SLAYER (who's mother likes it?) so I became a fan!!! My first Metal-Shirt was SLAYER's "Reign in pain" M-size. Yeah, I was a small boy at that time. From that time brutality caught me.
Actual faves include: DECREPIT BIRTH, SUFFOCATION, DISGORGE(us), LITURGY, INTERNECINE, SALLY, MORTICITE, MINCH, PILE OF EGGS and more...
Today I'm 32 and spend time on message boards.

My first cd was cryptopsy's none so vile, bought it at the start of last year, didn't really have an interest in music before hand, just happened to stumbled upon phobophile on mp3.com, and man, after downloaded it, i probably had it on repeat for 50 times, haha, loved it....

these days im into all stuff by internal suffering, decrepit birth, brodequin, disgorge (US), suffocation, cryptopsy (fucking hardcore vocals on the last 2 studio albums =, music =, thank goodness mr worm is back) and bits of hate eternal (cerrito's songs),deeds of flesh (trading pieces and path = \m/, rest = zzz), morbid angel (formulas=\m/) and internecine (i hope anderson gets himself back into gear and gets some more guest drummers together to do a second album).

..ive just turned 18, and cant be fucked with metallica, slayer, and all the other older thrashy stuff, haha... well, actually, i find 90% of most death metal to be boring....ahh well

well,I'm 25 now.So when I was listening to music,90-91Nirvana was really hitting it big and so was the alterantive"Thing",so I pretty much listened to that type of stuff. That was until I saw/heard pantera on the original headbangers ball. They were playing the 5 Minutes Alone Video, and I was pretty blown away.

That night I also saw the Prong Video for"Snap Your Fingers,Snap Your Neck",so I went out the next day and bought Vulgar Display Of Power, and Cleansing.I was pretty blown away. The next album I bought was Sepultura's Chaos A.D.Again,I was blown away.

Then I just happened to be flipping through a metal magazine, and I happened upon a bunch of bands I had never heard of.Bands like Deicide, eyehategod, napalm death and a few others.I was pretty interested in them, but I couldnt find the cd's anywhere(very small town at the time..).So one day at my aunts house,I saw a columbia house cd book. And I saw,a band called cannibal corpse. So I had my aunt order Cannibal Corpse"The Bleeding".I almost shit my pants,I had never heard such a thing in my life.I loved that album.

Now I'm pretty much into death metal.Theres alot of shit out there in the music world that is just fucking wrong, and I know that with bands like suffocation I'll get quality, over any of the everyday bullshit trendy music.
