I came to realise while going through my record collection that the Netherlands have produced a wealth of great metal (and rock) albums over the years.

How is the scene down there anyway? Lot of gigs? Easy to find new releases? etc...

Yeah, from time to time good stuff pops up here :). You already mentioned some of them.

Some of my personal Dutch faves are:

- Gorefest
- Pestilence (guess you know them as well)
- Orphanage
- After Forever
- God Dethroned
- The Gathering (until and including Nighttime Birds)

Other pretty well-known Dutch bands: Callenish Circle, Severe Torture, Disavowed, Altar, Epica, Asphyx (RIP), Thanatos, Sinister (RIP), Pleurisy, Katafalk, DeadHead, Flesh Made Sin, Houwitser (RIP)..

The scene is still pretty big here, and there's always a variety of gigs to visit almost every day of the week....

I only heard one song from the Textures album on a sampler. It sounded great. Gotta get me that album soon!

Another excellent Dutch band is The Wounded, if you like Katatonia/Anathema, you'll love them. Especially their last album "Atlantic" is awesome.

Dead Head and Pestilence, both are probably the best death/thrash metal ever to come from Holland.

Dead Head's "The Festering" demo is classic and their "Dream Deceiver" album is pretty good indeed, but I think Holland has produced better bands.

to me the best Dutch bands are/were :

Asphyx , Pestilence, Bestial Summoning, Dead Head, Tartaros, Haatstrijd, Cirith Gorgor, old Sinister and Flesh made Sin.
