The new album "Portals to Uphobia"

The 2nd full-length album of Detonation will be released on September 12th, again through Osmose Productions. Just like the first album, "Portals to Uphobia" was recorded in Excess studios in Rotterdam.

The first 3000 copies will be released as digipak featuring a multimedia part with exclusive audio and visual material. The multimedia will be exclusive to the digipak.

I heard the samples a few weeks ago, and I have to say I'm highly disappointed. I feel like I'm listening to different mp3s than the rest of you, but this is really a pathetic effort by Detonation after the amazing Epic Defiance album. The riffs were totally bland, uninspired, uncreative, and boring. Maybe if some studio magic can make it sound all that much better, or these were some of the worse songs, we'll be alright. But c'mon, the genre is saturated by tons of bands releasing the same stuff we've already heard over and over again, and with the amount of innovation I heard here, I am sad to say Detonation is not better than that although I hoped they would be. At least Cardamon sounds promising.

Well, it's sad to hear you're disappointed. Anyhow, the samples were unmastered. The album has been mastered in the meantime and it sounds more powerful. I honestly can't imagine fans of An Epic Defiance being disappointed with the new album.

The sound on Portals... is less 'produced'/polished and more open and spontaneous compared to AED. Also it's more transparent and better balanced and you can hear better what's going on.

Soon, we'll put a full song online, but please save your final judgement until you've heard the full album a few times ;).

of course, it is impossible to please everybody with every new album a band makes. But we had a listening session for the press a while ago and received nothing but positive feedback towards the new songs, and we like the album ourselves....so I have no worries.

after 2 spins, I'm liking it a lot, it's a very polished album for a 2nd release... usually that's where bands kind of drop down a level (you polish the first album material forever, until you get signed, then after that you need to write new stuff in a hurry) I do realise that you did have quite a while since the "first" true release of AED... yet I'm happier with this album than a lot fo the new stuff this year. maybe it's just the perfect mix of speed and melodies... :D

it would be hard for this NOT to make it into my top ten of 2005... here's hoping Maria will see it the same way!

Glad you like it so far...good point you got there about most bands 2nd album.

We had a lot of problems the last half year before the recordings (Thomas' injury, sporadic rehearsals and almost no gigs) so taking this into consideration, we did a decent job I guess.

Man i just downloaded your new album ( i wll buy it for sure when its out :) ). And all i can say that it is TOTALLY AWESOME. Its maybe better then your awesome previous album as well. WOW the opener is one of the best tracks ever written for me!!! Great work Detonation and thanks a lot for this album. Continue the great work :)
