Okay I've heard so many things by blacksters from all around the world, most of them whom I asked which is their thought about Mayhem they almost always answer that they used to prefer the old line-up with Dead and Euronymous... I can understand the reason for many guys use to like them most but aren't they missing that Maniac has been the FIRST Mayhem singer?! I've also heard in some thread of this very forum somebody talking about the concert in Rome where I was too, saying that only the old songs have been appreciable but that they were practically almost covers!! really I'm not gonna understand this... only because of some songs that Maniac has not sang in the past you could say that they're covers?! who do you think is the singer in Deathcrush?!
Anyway only because of the endless stories built up after Euronymous and Dead's accidents I don't think you are justified to spread shit upon Maniac, I'm not saying you guys from the forum do it, but I just would like to know actually what is your personal consideration of him since for what I've seen it hasn't been deserved so much respect towards him by the 'old' Mayhem fans...

Personally I like Maniac very much, I like the way he screams, the way he acts and moves on the stage... the extreme violence that comes out of his body so fiercely during the show...
I find he has a great personality and ability, in my opinion he has all the knowledge to be the new emperor of the black metal scene...

Now the word is to you...

My opion is mayhem are better than ever, maniac lyrics writer mayhem have had, i personally dident like euryonmas and think he was very overrated blackthorn wrote most of teh riffs on de mysteriis. So personally the current line up of mayhem is better than ever, everything has improved!

It seems to be the "in" thing to dislike the current line up of mayhem

I agree about Maniac I think he makes a great frontman I loved the Necrobutcher Hellhammer Dead Euro lineup and the Euro Varg Attila Hellhammer line-ups just as much as the present one, I think why alot of people have a problem with maniac and the new-old line-up is because maniac left in '87 and joined again in '96 and think it was for money... but the band do not make enough money from mayhem to make a good living from it and precides maniac and Blasphemer have kept the new material fresh in one way Blasphemer has brought forth new unique atmospheres to the band and maniac 's lyrics and vocals are great

after hearing a lot of the recordings of the 'classic' line up, i have to agree that maniac is definitley the best vocalist they have had. grand declarations lyrics were amazing, a real story, and on european legions the guy is just frightening to listen to.

This is what Snorre says on the Mysteriis matter:

"I played with Mayhem, and some old Thorns material were used on Mysteriis, but not much. The idea was to use the other Thorns songs for the next Mayhem album. That did not happen as we know... I used Hellhammer on my new album, so it's quite obvious that we still have contact. Apart from that, Necrobutcher and I talk whenever we meet. I don't really know the other guys."

I agree that Maniac is the right singer for Mayhem, unlike many of the children in this forum. Dead was also a fine act for Mayhem, but hey he's dead just like Euro so what's the point keeping mentioning these two dead members. I know that they contributed each individually to the band, but that was in the past. If the critics of Maniac think he's not good enough, then who would you suggest? Could anyone besides Blasphemer ever succesfully contribute to this circle of friends, yep some one is forgetting that Hellhammer, Necrobutcher and Maniac have been friends for over 20 years!
Besides, like the above have mentioned, Maniac is extreme with his self mutilation, maniac vocals (as experienced on Wolfs Abyss) and overall fuck you attitude.

Heya, the 1st MayheM vox was Euro (on PFA) and then Messiah (rehearsing, live and two tracks on Deathcrush)! Not the Maniac. As for me - i like the Maniac on Deathcrush, but anyway the best one ever is Dead and the old MayheM. I don't like the new one... Thats my humble opinion.

Maniac is definetely the best. I can't stand people saying all the time how Euronymus and Dead were the best all the time. They were very good too, it's just like how everyone likes Tupac and Notorious BIG just because they're dead. Get over it. Blasphemer's skill and timing surpasses Euronymus' by far and Maniac has a twisted hate-filled voice. Keep in mind, I'm not insulting the deceased guys. I like them a lot too.

For me Dead is the best vocalist...attila too

Why Attila has gone? He was the best. No one of Mayhem or the other bands can challenge him. But Maniac's choral vocals are also respectable (even if Attila's are much better).

Attila was best friends with Euro & would have probally been in the band fulltime if Euro dident get killed.

There was a rumor circulating a year or two ago that Maniac quit MayheM and Attila was going to resurface as MayheM's new vocalist. I think Maniac is better, personally.

I don't understand...why is Atilla so loved? He wasn't anything special. Don't get me wrong, I like Atilla too, but his voice is kind of odd. Maniac is the greatest.

Actually, when I heard Attila first time, my first throught was: "Who is that drunk guy singing?"

But Attila really WAS something special. His vocals were unusual, he wasn't like all that standart screaming-growling singers. And for me his voice is much gloomiest, and it adds some sort of psychodelica.

However, it's a point of own preference . For me Maniac's chorals are awesome, but his screaming is nothing more than usual screaming.

I'll agree that Attilas vocals were quite haunting and dark, and sounds like they come from very drepressive man.

Fuck! There'd be no fucking Black Metal without Dead! Fuck maniac, fuck Atilla, Dead's the best MayheM vox ever. The only album where maniac sounds right is Deathcrush, all other his records SUCK! MayheM is what was 1986-1994. Everything later that is shity trend.
P.S. but maybe new mayhem could be better, if Atilla was vox... you know, he screams great at DMDS, especially "Funeral Fog"...

I think it's very difficult to name the best vocalist. As for Maniac, I think he's fucking amazing, and this was only reinforced when I saw them live in 2001 I think it was. He was amazing on stage- a thousand times more intense and 'crazy' than on the DVD. I've always thought his voice was incredible too, even his spoken word stuff.

Dead is a legend, although I much prefer his live vocals than his work on the two studio tracks, which are great, but didn't really capture his roar.

Attila is very good on 'De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas', but I'm glad he didn't stay on as permenant vocalist. His unique voice helps make that album unique. I don't think we'd want another one...

So yeah, I couldn't be happier about Maniac. He's really the face of the band now and I think he has everything a Mayhem vocalist needs- voice, presence, that slightly worrying psychotic edge. Perfect.

Yeah, for me, Maniac is really good: you can think of him as a poser or whatever you want, I don't give a shit: Maniac, Dead, Attila, all of these guys have their proper styles and CAN'T be compared, simply because they're different: all is our own INTERPRETATION, for instance, I really like Dead's voice on Live In Leipzig, because it creates an amazing atmosphere, but the voice itself isn't that powerful - musically speaking - whereas Maniac's got an amazing voice.... They're all different singers and for me ther isn't any "true "Mayhem: today it's Maniac and it's just perfect for me.

Who cares who the vocalist is/was. As long as he doesn't sound like a moron. Attila was good. Maniac's WLA vocals were ok. GDOF was better. and with Chimera he's really improved. I honestly have not heard Dead, since whatever records he sang are horrible (oh sorry, atmospheric) records, where you can barely him.

Both Attila and Maniac had far better talent and range. But who wrote the songs?

I think that Maniac is the best voice in the history of MayheM, Dead is more a legend than a good Voice and Attila.. well Attila is different..

well, I saw maniac live last week, and I have to say his performance was the worst, compared to the others. he surely does a great job on the albums, and he's constantly improving, but sometimes his stage performance sucks. nevertheless I think he's best choice possible, and his lyrics are outstanding, really. there's no other band around with such great lyrics. and as for dead and attila, they are both two of the greatest bm-vocalists, but I'm not sure whether their styles would fit into the music blasphemer writes. but that doesn't matter as maniac fits perfectly into today's mayhem...

Yes. Maniac is the best, as I have said. Try to imagine Atilla singing "Necrolust". It wouldn't work out very well because Atilla isn't very fast. As for Dead, he's just average to me. Probably because I haven't heard his voice with clarity before.

Connor

If Attilla could reprise his "Tormentor" vocal style for songs such as Necrolust then perhaps it would work...back then his vocals were quite typical(but great) punk influenced barking/screeching which would have suited the early MayheM music.

His voice would have been great on a slowed down "Chainsaw Gutsfuck"....I saw somewhere that the original plan for Mayhems reformation was Attilla doing the vocals, can someone (probably Warren hehe) clear that up? That would have been really cool.

But I still think Maniac is the perfect vocalist for the new Mayhem lineup (for better or for worse;) )
I saw no indication of a poor performance by him when they played in Glasgow, and I think his stage presence, lyrics and image are fantastic (if a little posey, but at least he's originalish)
