Hellhammer is mor of a jazz drummer so if if we speak about technic he's better than Frost...
but on the other hand Frost is playing more straight forward and has a more organic sound which Hellhammer can't achieve...

I'm not sure the question should be asked this way. With such a level it's almost impossible to claim who is the best. Although there are some differences between them: Hellhammer's drumming is richer because of elements like irregular measures or the gimmicks/ornaments he adds in his lines this being probably due to non-Metal influences (possibly Jazz) whereas Frost's drumming is more straightforward but the main quality of both drummers, I think, is their capacity to improve themselves throughout the years. There was such an impressive improvement from "Dark Medieval Times" to "Liberation"(1349) and from "De mysteriis..." to "Chimera"! Don't the drummers among you agree with that ?
As to the comparison between Black and Death I guess drummers like Pete Sandoval or Alex Hernandez can easily rival with Frost or Hellhammer in their own styles.
One thing that impresses me above all is when I see Hellhammer playing the double bass with his "New Rock" boots whereas most of the drummers wear sport shoes to play it easier. Incredible. What do the drummers think of that?

Even the most amateur of listeners should be able to recognise that Hellhammer is about 5 times the drummer frost is, and about 6 times the drummer Fenriz is.

The fact that Darkthrone's music is quite simple doesn't mean at all they are not musicaly talented. Listen to Soulside Journey and tell me that they are not talented.

About that Hellhammer vs Frost, i choose Hellhammer. Maybe cuz i never really got in Satyricon that much...

And about that DM drummers vs BM drummers...i don't really know...One thing is sure tho, Flo Mournier is the best extreme drummer and he plays in a DM band (Cryptopsy).

oohhh is that right, and I just thought that it was Friday, ever heard of irony my friend. I know he's talented allright, meant it as joke 'cause you can't compare him to the above mentioned in my opinion .

Ah yes...sarcasm. But then, sarcasm isn't always obvious on the Internet. But you gotta admit that your post looked like you were mocking Fenriz' abilities...

I'll decide when I've heard Frost play Mayhem stuff and vice versa.

And yes, Flo is one of the best DM drummers around

I think both Frost and Hellhammer are excelent drummers but if u want to go with sheer speed then Hellhammer is the absolout fuckin Daddy! i have never heard any thing like the double bass at the beginning of "Dark Night of the Soul" on "Chimera", it is fucking GOD LIKE!! i am saying this from a drummers view and i would gladly give my left testicle to be able to drum that fast!!

Well, I sincerely hope that you will soon be able to play as fast as him without doing anything painful to your testicles!
Good luck!!

I pick up Hellhammer for his unbelievable skills, he's among the best metal drummers of the world...nothing to say, he's simply amazing ! About the genre with best drummers, i'd say death metal...it'slike if DM gave more importance to drums and the way they are played...compared to raw black metal of course

Many people just like you may say that Fenriz is bad drummer or something (he is not. He just want to play like that)
but he has the right feeling in his playing unlike Hellhammer whos using those Jazz technic crap. I don´t have lots of respect for Hellhammer or would i say Cashhammer
Sorry for my bad english

Your damn right, Hellhammer knows how to hadle the dubble bass. I did not see Frost as a fast drummer untill a few week's ago when i heard '1349 - Buired by time and dust'. I was stunned by the speed BUT Hellhammer is the better IMO, more technical. Frost's drum work in Satyricon is nothing to cheer for IMO

As an allround drummer I would say Hellhammer, no doubt about it. Although I don`t like everything about his drumming, but I can`t deny he is a very good drummer.

I think I prefer Hellhammer than Frost. I'm no drums specialist, but Hellhammer's playing sounds a lot more impressive (to me) than Frost's.
Also, call me crazy, but I like Fenriz's drumming. I think he has a distinctive sound, and I think I like his style. But I think he doesn't really like drumming anymore, does he?
Generally, I think DM drummers are better (from a techical aspect) than BM drummers.

Sounds like it would be interesting. HH has the speed (but so does Frost) and Frost has the tech slower stuff (but so does HH) I dont think you can really say one is better, better at what? Just plain drumming? A question like this can never be answered just a slew of opinions here. Who is cleaner/faster with their feet or who can pull off a jazz beat the best are more ideal questions that could be answered, not just simply who is better at drums.

Personally I like HH better, his style, his image and his drum playing. He is quite a diverse style player considering all the work he has done and will continue doing.
Frost has a unique kind of style, I like everything HE does with Satyr, even the drums on Volcano impress me (I only said drums) I consider him in the top 10 drummers in black metal. Overall I must agree with Dimas, that would be somthing.

In my opinion Hellhammer is by far better than Frost.
The great thing which HH does is that he has a variety in his playing.I'm sure you've
heard him from Mayhem,Arcturus to Winds and Circle of Chaos.Due to that(and jazz influencies, too),he's capable of enriching his sound(even in Mayhem)with great stuff
and not get boring.
I don't know Frost well as a drummer but both in Rebel Extravaganza and Volcano there isn't any noticable drumming for to say that Frost is great. He's just fast.
So what?Many drummers are fast.
Once I heard a rumour that Frost is Hellhammer's apprentice.Does anybody knows if that's true?
Now,about BM and DM drummers I'd said DM.Just check out Richard Christy on "Sound of Perseverance"

This is muddled up.........For all we know Hh could not be showing his true skill And frost might not be showin his true skills,,,,remember, they are only playing the part which fits the song best, question should be mayhem's drumming v.s satyricons cause they are just playin the part of the song,,,not trying like go crazy well on the question,,,,,I recond black metal drummers are better but D M drummers are more tec......
and on satyricons drumming and mayhems,,,,,,i like satyricons drumming better but mayhems music(guitar, bass, vocals)betta.

Im not sure if I've got anything new to add to the posts above (actually, I dont. Nothing really special), but I would like to reiterate the stated above. Frost can play pretty intense BM. Hes got strong wrists and can sustain his blast beats with sheer ferocity (just look at Satyricon´s DvD...) hes good, no doubt about it (at least, he looks like a guy who can ACHIEVE a certain amout of charisma; absolutely. Hes a lot more of an old school drummer whose playing is much more based on "feelings" rather than techniques. HH stands right in the opposite side. hes this great Jazzistic + xtreme metal player, and can deliver both styles and mix them up pretty well. His playing is varied and PRECISE (being it in Mayhem or any other apearence.) Although, I think that sometimes, HH's drumming is a little "souless!" when compared to the feelings generated by both Fenriz and Frost's drumming. Even with all that said, I'll stay with HH's fast/precise/varied Jazz-inspired techniques, and I'would kill for one of his "favours"...;)
