they need better vocals.. i think the vocals suck ass. sounds like metalcore vocals alot of the time. Personally i wish they had some nice brutal death growls.

The music is awesome and Fractured is a great cd.

I don't really mind the vocals. Atleast they are better than Martyr's..

I don't mind the vocals, they seem to fit the music very well.....and that's what matters

Just a question, not meant to be pointed, but why would death gurgle/growl vocals be preferable? Perhaps because they're more traditional? It's not like anyone listens to tech metal for the vocal stylings anyhow.

For example, whether or not Death is considered tech at this point is irrelevant; the band is guitar shreddin' and drum beatin' focused. I'm not the biggest fan of Chuck's vocals, but I don't mind them as they're not the focal point (or in this case, auditory point) of the music.

Like the poster above me said the vocals do fit the music, as do Mr. Suecof's vocals on "Icon of Malice". I like both vocal styles and if anything I think the thrashy/metalcorey (even though I dislike metalcore) vocals are another defining part of Capharnaum's sound as Matt doesn't sound like that on any of the Trivium recordings I've heard.

This said, it's still your opinion and you're more than welcome to it. Sorry I came off assholish with my previous glib response. I just think that it's a bit myopic to let something as vocals (especially in a tech metal band..) ruin the entire thing for you.

I quite like the vocals, (big The Haunted fan anyway, heehee) but to be honest, I tend to phase the vocals out in my head anyway, cause I love the riffs; the whole music element is much more important than the vocals....to me anyway....

BTW the cd kicks ass. Brings back memories of me listening to the real old version of Icon of Malice off mp3.com like 3 years ago...! ;)

You didn't come off as an asshole.. but most of what you said as uncessary.. my position is quite simple.

Death.. one of my favourite bands. Technical? yes of course.. vocals? not brutal death growls but i really like chuck vocals. on all the records.

Carpharnaum? i don't like their vocals. There's nothing more to it than that the vocals sound unapplealing to me.

Why do i choose brutal death growls? not because their traditional but for these reason:

1. I love brutal death growls

2. Death/extreme metal is not just about what fits with what.. it's about being crazy, off the wall and interesting. Me, i find the capharnaum vocals, as they are, boring and mundane. For me brutal as hell vocals.. would sound more appeal and provide an interesting contrast with their music.

and lastly

Ruin an entire band!??!?!??!? what did i say that made you think that the vocals have ruined capharnaum for me?

was it when i said they're a great band?

or maybe when i said they have alot of talent?

haha.. sorry..

but i like capharnaum and i enjoy their album.. they are not "ruined for me"

I don't get why everyone has to have everything as low as possible, "Let's turn our guitar's down to G and have our singer sound like he's a bear being raped"

The vocals are fine.

I don't mind them on parts of the album like on Icon of Malice they sound fine.. it's not that i want them lower necessarily.. i guess it just irks me when vocals sound.. too "human". in death metal that is.

I don't mind the vocals either, but whatever...to each their own. You can get used to Matt Heafy's stuff. I like Jason's vocals on Machines and Icon of Malice better...ahhh what the hell I like it all. ;-)

I bought Fractured in late february and haven't stopped listening to it since!

Hail crotchduster!
