Erm, I have a question about this DVD:
Who does distribution in Europe for this item?
I work in a cd store, that's why I want to know.
Something like Surburban, Zomba or Bertus?

great dvd. it really showed what it took to get the music out to us. i am actually taken aback by the amount of content on this dvd. ive bought other dvds of my favorite bands with nowhere near the amount of content. props to you.
btw i am a new poster here. i found a promo copy of dissimulate from an idiot "friend" in 2002 and immediately fell in love with the album. i then tried hunting down the 2 disc re-release of the self titled album which proved to be rather difficult. but after about 3 months i found a place in OZ that would ship it here. the wait and searching was well worth it. now i want to buy another copy of dissimulate so i can have the cd insert instead of the promo cardboard sleeve that my idiot "friend" had "thrown-out" to me.
btw some questions if i can ask them here. new album? new tours? i really want to see you guys in the US. also when will you be needing a second guitar player?? i think i am ready!!!!!

hey guys , ive recieved an email from earache webstore apologizing and it says official release for uk is 19th april but as the dvd is ntsc / region 0 you americans can order from the uk/euro store too!!!!!!!!!
they basically said
"The release date has moved a lot because of unforeseen troubles. There has been a few technical setbacks but all is now sorted for the 19th" - therefore i should recieve my copy on the monday because pre-orders are sent out earlier.
i also re-rang a few shops such as mvc/virgin/hmv and smaller music stores , all saying its special order , so it looks like there hasnt been mass demand for the berzerker dvd.

Saw it last night too. The live footage is exceptional and I'm sure will disappoint nobody. The making of the albums were informative and entertaining (Val cracked me up) and the bass player is so hot, i want to make sex with him.
Well worth the wait if you ask me :D

OH MY GOD , i finished watching the dvd not to long ago and dear lord its everything you guys could expect
- It starts off with a earache intro which like the earache dvd uses a loop of spheres of madness by decapitated which is an amazing song but i tell you certain sections looped and you want to kill yourself
- Then the menu , and for me i just went from top to bottom , watching everything , therefore i started on the live show , taken from there nottingham uk gig
Opens with the immense forever but things really kick off with betrayal then the mayhem commenses , everything you expect speed , accuracy , energy obviously i could talk about each individual part but YOU MUST SEE THIS FOR YOURSELF
Im picking out favourite parts
- For the live songs (not bootleg section) the audio from the nottingham gig is always used but for some songs they have taken video clips from there 100s of tours and on Disregard a clip from a different gig the bassist punches this guy in the face who was asking for it LITERALLY he was pointing to his nose , and the punch is done the second the song kicks in ,so it works together pretty well .
- When Incarnate Solvent Abuse comes in ,its a different gig all together , Its old aswell , as there is 5 members , and the masks arnt particularly developed , luke can be seen adjusting his mask whilst singing because the spikes are sticking into his face
-Then some touring clips with Labrat and in there is some funny playfights where the berzerker bassist is against the labrat singer , only thing is the bassist is blindfolded
-Back to the Nottingham gig "February" is performed to such a high standard with one of my particular "live" favourites being "Mono Grind" the attack of that song is brutal
I do realise i havent spoke off ALL the songs but im picking bits out, but trust me ALL of them are outstanding
-Onto bootlegs , cool to see mask swap arounds and more members + Tony from "Nile" drums on corporal jigsore quandary , he is also filmed practising it on a chair and it seems that the band have simply come to him and hes learnt it on the spot
- A real stand out part for me are the rehearsals for "Pain" and "Reality" , just the band practising , on reality the drummer is the cameras main focus , he also is filmed quite a bit in pain , and FUCKING HELL is all i have to say , me being a fellow drummer it is a particular favourite for me.
- Then the making of self titled , my main conclusion of this is EVERYTHING that could go wrong/negatively DID , Lukes trip to Canada was complete bullshit , nothing but crossed wires and lies , But there is guy called Val who helped luke so so much , it was disheartening to see so many things go wrong but also very inspirational to see such drive and passion , it reaffirmed for me what music is all about , seeing the passion has even inspired me to better myself
Val was there for Luke constantly trying to lift his spirits , but its hard when everything fucks up
Val does a lot of singing for Luke and this guy called Patrick plays a lot of the riffs but sadly luke used NONE of what these guys acheived on the final mix
-Back in Australia , a guy called Sam pops up (current bassist) and he offers up some riffs/ideas and tries to lay down some of Lukes ideas and manages it but is pushed to what seems like human limits (a must see for guitarists- a lot is focused on guitar )
-LUKE IS A SLAVE DRIVER because "DO IT AGAIN" can be heard many times , these guys are pushed pushed pushed then "Taped" haha .
-2 more guys accompany sam called ed and jason all being driven driven driven by Luke , there fueled by lukes passion and enthusiasm for the music and there eagerness is tested . To be fair to luke though his lack of patience is due to the complete letdown of what he thought were musicians helping musicians and not money grabbers
So much went wrong , nearly everything........................................ ........Luke has been extremely unlucky but there has been glimmers of hope as he did find accomplished musicians , so there is 2 sides to the story , its just frustration then more added frustration then you include frustration/lies/letdown you sort of get an idea GO BUY THE DVD
- Then onto making of dissimulate , this time it is smoother and more organised , lukes lack of experience with computers /mixing was what caused such frustration so this time he wasnt going to be the sound engineer , but mid-way the sound engineer has to leave due to family issues (Watching the dvd its like - is the berzerker cursed) , therefore luke is left to mix the album which he successfully does
- There is a crazy part where the you see the drummer drumming the final takes on dissimulate then they take out the trigger sounds , its unreal , very strange
-Both albums were produced at lukes home studio
-Then some interesting interviews , with band , designer , bit on making masks and a part of the ultimate fan who has THE MOST berzerker stuff ive ever seen
What ive posted is still vague compared to the detail this dvd goes into
It really is an inspiration for all musicians

The masks i now believe are vital to the performance of berzerker , human image just gets in the way of things , the bassist/ex guitarist sam makes me laugh cause he looks like an accountant , but he has one of the worst inner demons , this guy goes crazy and has a voice to go with it
I listen to the albums , self titled especially in such a different way , this dvd gets very personal , and when you finish you feel like you know the band

i got my dvd through the post five minutes before i had to leave for a 9 hour work shift this morning so it kept me going all day, i've nearly watched all the dvd now though and it is really really really amazing, the whole passion for the music is portrayed and the live shows to watch gives you quite a buzz and generally it gives you a whole better understanding for what the berzerker are all about and stand for. incredible.

i would think there to be some *easter eggs on the dvd.
"why should humans have everything handed to them on a platter?".
a quote from an interview with The Berzerker. so i think that there would be some stuff on the DVD that should be discovered by us fans.
depends if it's a platter of splatter! ;)
in anticipation of "fricking loving" the DVD when it arrives in the mail, i just wanna say thanks to The Berzerker for the effort he obviously put into the stuff on there... well that and for making such music that's plain fucking aural decimation http://hevydevyforums.com/phpbb/images/smiles/new12.gif

Love the DVD, absolutely fucking brutal.
As for easter eggs I've not looked properly, but I noticed on the main menu, if you look at the binary strings on the right, you can click on the top line. This re-loads the menu with no music and you cant select any of the options, apart from clicking on the binary again to get back to the working menu.

Though unfortunately, it's just a long winded way of reality video, though it may serve another purpose...
Anyway, someone mentioned earlier you can click on a portion of binary earlier. On this screen with the differant music, there are a number of hidden buttons. most of them take you back to the main screen. However, if you click the one slightly below and right of the first, you'll reload the same screen. The click another button hidden top right (near the dragon's 'ear'). Again, same screen. Finally, find a group of 3 buttons top-right ish (the left one is a bit higher). Click the rightmost of these, and finally the reality video plays ^_^
That's all i've found so far, it's needs to be tested more ;)
*edit* By the way, click any button out of sequence, and you'll be back to the main screen. note down which one it was and start again ;)

I live in New York and I got it yesterday, as I said in another thread, try the Earache US webstore....Vanessa had a few advance copies laying around. The DVD was amazing. I had respect for the brutality in the music, but man after all the shit they went through, and they didn't stop. 100 times more respect to you guys. Keep up the good work.

I can't say I finally got it, because it only took one week.
Only two days it took to ship from New York.
Thanks Earache!
I haven't watched all of it yet, but from what I have seen, it is excellent. I've only been able to skim through...
I might have to take notes just to describe it...
Totally worth it!
:p
Ok i finally got it today but i wanna nit pick at something
Ok, Massacre, probably one of the most brutal songs ever made was talked about for a bit which i loved because thats my favorite song....but, i was just a little disappointed to not see any type of video for the song, whether it be live performance or just a video for it... Oh well, still an excellent segment i must say.
Lukes computer fucking up constantly made me laugh so hard!
Re-installing windows like 2 or 3 times....lol, oh reminds me of the good old days....god damn windows 98....
Next....Bassist, You seem to have gone through hell and back lol....Luke must have put you through some really rough shit man. But it was worth it right? It was also entertaining to see you fall asleep so much.
Oh and just watching you try to get that part on Massacre where you said its just an impossible riff and an impossible speed, that was very enjoyable to watch someone play guitar at that speed.... heh, it gives me somthing to shoot for....
Guitar....You have a funky style and i like it....the riffs are really fast but also technical which you dont see that much in bands....I give you...."props?" hehe, Your a great guitarist....
Drummer.... ummm.....yea just wow man.... its just so insane to see how fast someone can go. I was sorta trippin on the way you do your blast beats..... It doesn't really look like you tense up when you do it, which is different because everyone usually turns striaght to the hi hat to do it and you just keep your body still but your hands and feet move so insanly freaking fast! Also, theres sorta of a break down in "No one Wins" about 1:01 into the song that i love so much.... Do more of that stuff man, its pretty awesome....
The Masks were a great segment for the dvd, it really makes the person watching it feel more personal with the band itself....
The Artist was amazing that did the cover of dissimulate.... He gets the respect he deserves.... 600,000 polygons is a shit load and yea....fuck....Good man!
I haven't watched the bootlegs yet because I got tired of lookin at the tv lol....
Well, this is my last paragraph for now, but i just wanna say this is the best footage of anything i've ever seen in my life! Very aggressive and it really makes me, a fan, feel closer to the band because i know some of the stuff that you guys had to go through which was horrible but rewarding in the end....

Just got the DVD... fucking excellent. Love everything.. live shows, interviews, bootlegs.. great narrative and info in the making ofs.. brilliant.
However, as already noticed, the reality clip is on a cookie somewhere on the DVD in the bootlegs area, but i cant figure out how to get to it. Anyway, ive decided to rip this little video for everyone, since its already a free download off the berzerker site and its not advertised on the DVD.
http://cyanidecordial.klonopinz.com/berzerker%23/The.Berzerker-Reality(DVDRIP).mpg
plus, its got alternative scenes than the one up on the site, and of course its hell of a lot better quality.
On another note, buy this DVD, for all the people in melbourne go down to metal mayhem near flinders station in the city, its where i picked it up.

Ok, bringing the subject back on topic :-)
I've probably not watched even half the DVD yet, but christ, "major dedication" is a phrase that definitely applies here. Fantastic DVD from what I've seen so far. It's great that you've had full editorial control over this. And it's so obvious that you've taken great pride in the creation of this DVD. I've been waiting for this for ages, and it's WWWAAAAYYYYY better than I imagined it would ever be.
Oh yeah, and I don't know if it was supposed to, but seeing the old masks made me laugh :D

Firstly thanks for bringing the thread back on topic, it really gets out of control sometimes.
But yes i was the ONLY one that had anything to do with the DVD, i still dont know if our drummers seen it yet, i did send him one, but still havent heard back.
I put so much time into this project and had full creative control! but it almost killed me. ive never working so hard ever 6 months straight 7 days a week, 10 hours a day!!!!
No one else edited a single frame of this DVD except for me.
i take pride in everything i do and i ask for peoples best in return, sometimes as you'll see it takes some pushing from me for them to get there

The DVD has got to be the greatest thing I have seen since I got the Carcass DVD a month ago. Leaves nothing to the imagination. Just how we all like it (if you don't, go away). There is nothing else i could think of asking except maybe about what Toby is doing with himself currently and where the masks got made.
Best thing happened. My history teacher allowed me to use the DVD for an assignment source so that I would pay more attention one lesson. I'm half way through and it's going heaps well.
Oh yeah. I'm fairly sure that it's "Tobys" vocals on Cannibal Rights, mono-grind and ignorance. am i right?

I got the DVD yesterday from JB and it was in my DVD player the second I got home - Watched all 4 odd hours of it in one sitting... Truely phenomenal stuff Luke - I tip my hat to you. While it did sorta dispell my initial ideas on the band (The kind of ideas you get from the berzerkers Image...) - It opened my eyes to the real people behind the image and what they have to suffer and endure in order to acheive what they believe in. I must say your very focussed and driven Luke, and everything this DVD entails is evidence of that.
Thats not to say your image still doesnt have an impact on me - I watched the live section again after watching the whole DVD and it proved that the masked/fully clothed aspect of the Berzerker is more than a gimmick, but rather vital to the overall theme. As brutal as the music is, Seeing humans in T-shirts and jeans perform it live would be far too disenchanting.
The DVD also open my eyes to the unglamorous reality of being an Australian Metal band... Lukes conviction through it all tho is very inspiring.
About the DVD itself tho - Truely A grade stuff, best Band DVD ever. Cheers for going through all that insanity (and filming it :D) to bring us the most sinister brutal band ever Berzerker!

I really love how excited Luke looks as he's listening to "Deform" in the mastering session, before the computer fucks up again.

oh yeah im tryin to get some berzerker tabs wanderin if the band or anyone else can help me out
dave salmon
05-14-2004, 07:15 PM
Hey grouch, you might have noticed it but im just pointing it out any way. The jesters mask is acctualy the berzerkers current mask if you look close enough. I might be getting this wrong but if you have a good look at both of the masks then you can see they are the same one just customised to hell. Its the same with the other masks, they look different to the final product. Admittedly the bass mask looks pretty much the same other than the colours but the drummers mask looks like a dam alien's head until the dreads are put on and its fully painted!!!!
I appologise if i missed what you said completeley:
"when it came to the showing of the making of the masks what was wiv that shitty jester mask?"
If thats the case i think luke did a dam good job with the mask's. His mask just looks evil, as if he's inside somone else trying to crawl out through the mouth of the guy he's in!!!

wow. That was seriously fucking awesome. The amount of shit thrown at Luke even by inanimate objects like his computer, and him overcoming it all is..fuck i cant even find the words.
This is seriously a DVD that all music producers, engineers and maybe musicians themselves should watch, even if they arent into death metal (in my opinion). It made me realise the amount of effort and detail put into both albums, even the artwork on Dissimulate. I wonder if Luke had a hard time with making the DVD as well.
I applaud every one who has been a part of The Berzerker and I reckon they really should get an award or at least respect from musicians outside metal.
Thank you for making such great music and a fucking awesome DVD.

As some of you might know I write for two webzines, namely The Blastbeat zine (http://www.theblastbeat.net/) and Still Online (http://www.stillonline.be/) .
Recently I wrote following DVD review for both zines:
THE BERZERKER
The Principles and Practices Of The Berzerker DVD
Earache
Australian industrial death metal merchants the Berzerker have taken the extreme metal world by storm with their two consecutive releases “the Berzerker” and “Dissimulate”. In the wake of their year long world tour Berzerker mastermind/creator/vocalist Luke took his handicam along the ride. The result is this an impressive and thorough look into the world of the Berzerker. Including an hour of live footage shot over the course of different gigs and countries, a promo clip for ‘No One Wins’, two making-of features: 101 minutes about the recording of “the Berzerker” and 25 minutes about the “Dissimulate” album. Another 25 minutes of interviews with the band themselves and band related items such as artwork and the creation of the bizarre masks. Concluding another 35 minutes of fan footage. The DVD is laid out beautifully and the animated menus are a dream to work with. Most of footage has an outstanding quality in both image and sound – with occasional rougher fan footage thrown in between for good measure. Considering the time, dedication and effort invested into the making of this DVD the Berzerker have raised the bar exponentially for extreme metal DVD’s. In completeness “the Principles and Practices” brings Fear Factory’s “Digital Connectivity” to mind, although this one is even more complete. Mandatory buying for any the Berzerker fan.

Amazing. The making of the self titled is really insightful and makes one apprecate that album so much. Great work Berzerker!

I just finished the DVD and I must say it is incredible. (ordered "The Berzerker pack" from Earache, both cd's and the DVD for $40, free shipping).
It really goes in depth into the recording process, and the way they speak in the interviews and what not, it feels like they are speaking directly to any musicians and engineers who might be watching. They tell all what gear they use, what settings, tunings, and how the drums were done for each album...and of course the rehearsal and live bits were awesome. I love that about this. Thanks dudes.

Just got the DVD, it's kickass!
Great menu and layout, etc. The live footage is all great, and so is all the behind the scenes stuff. It really shows how hard it is to play in the masks and I had no idea the masks took that much work to make.
Just an awesome DVD, are the videos of Reality and Forever on it? I didn't see them.
Kudos on a superb product
BTW, in one clip, it has someone (I think it's Luke, not sure though) ranting about PCs and saying that they wish they had some Macs to get the job done. I love that, Macs are awesome :D, the only other bands I know who are Mac fans are Iron Maiden and Circle of Dead Children.

The DVD is awesome! I can't say enough good things about it. All I'm going to say right now is that I found it to be very inspirational. This is a band that simply does not give up. The DVD also made me appreciate all the members' abilities even more. I never realized how difficult the songs on the self-titled album were to play.
Nice job, Luke!

Excellent job on the DVD. The only thing I would have liked to see that I didn't was 5.1 surround mastering; but I realize that the recording didn't facilitate that. I absolutely am floored by the sheer magnitude of the material. Kudos!

Just purchased the DVD this week.
Wow...I am in awe.
I truly believe that this is the first and only band to truly show the creation process in detail.
Every aspect of making the albums brought to light that this is not merely a job, but a passion.
I have far more respect for musicians now after watching this. The Berzerker (as a band) truly busted their collective asses to bring forth two of the most crushing albums ever!
I know now that I will be after the next album, and when the Berzerker comes back to the Chicagoland area, I will be going, come hell or high water!
Well done, guys!

Luke,
Your DVD is amazing. It's by far the best metal DVD you can possibly buy. It was really fucking cool to see how hard making the s/t album was... It has made The Berzerker one of my favorite bands.. The live material is fucking great, the backstage shit is awesome.
If I were you I'd be really fucking proud to be at the center of such an amazing machine(band). Until I get the chance to meet & shower you with praise, know that you've accomplished something truly special for the whole world to see.
Cheers!

After watching the making of "self-titled" I've gained a whole new respect for The Berzerker. I hear people saying all of the time "yeah these guys just play fast, there's nothing to their music then hitting a bunch of notes and playing as fast as possible.", but they should really watch all of the hard work and all of the shit Luke and the guys had to go through just to get the first album done. It seems like "Dissimulate" was a dream for them compared to the self-titled.

hi i am a new fan and am getting the dvd real soon i have a question for "the berzerker". Ok when you talk is your voice completly fucked up from all that screaming or does it sound half way normal... and for "the drummer" you are fuckin sick! hey i drum too... i am 13 and you have really inspired me..... i have a sonor 5 piece with paiste rude cymbals.... i love them...
o yeah and arent you in the guinness book of world records for fastest drumming with one hand?? i recall it was like 19 beats with one hand, per second.... is that true? and if it is ..... are you human??

He's not in the Guiness Book of Records. He can play 1148 notes in a minute using both hands. It has never been confirmed by the band that the drummer can play 19 notes in a second with one hand, and until I hear the band confirm it, I will continue to regard this notion as a rumor. Besides, 19 notes in a second, one handed? That's fucking ridiculous, people, even for a death metal drummer.

Hey, just picked up the DVD, good fucking work guys.
Luke I have to commend you on all the work you put into the two albums. It's good to see people in extreme metal so passionate about making the music in their heads become reality. As a Death metal singer and Musician from canberra, your dvd has inspired me alot, and makes me realise that even though we are secluded from most of the world, Extreme Music can still make it.
Good fucking work.

The masks are the exact same as the masks on the dvd. Thanks The Berzerker for making such a kick ass dvd!!!

I was a big fan of the Berzeker's music before i saw it, but the DVD allowed me to see just how much hard work went into recording the albums.
Also, seeing the faces behind the masks adds a really cool "human" element to the band.
