Hey all!
Caught the tour kick-off gig (or part of it - long story) in Amsterdam and wanted to fill you in/report.
It was first night of tour and Textures was a bit late in arriving to the venue (so soundchecks were rushed and there were numerous gear problems which plagued Alchemist thru the night). The turnout was good - the room at The Winston was pretty much filled up - and the response, while a bit restrained, was definitely good. A lot of people standing and watching the guys w/ their full attention.
The set list is a crowd-pleaser for sure. Much is made up of tracks from Austral Alien (of course) but each album is represented throughout the evening. Good stuff.
The guys were great dudes and word is that they've been getting better and better w/ each show. Tomorrow they start the UK leg of dates and it should be awesome for them to play to so many new faces each night.
Oh yeah...Alche-fans going to Euro-shows...their tour merch is great so don't forget to bring money! Pins, patches, shirst (TS & LS) etc...They have it all and the quality is top-notch and prices super cheap. Cheers to the guys for hooking it up for their fans!

Mick,
Alchemist played about 40 minutes. There standard set length is 50+ minutes tho. Dude to a tightly planned second show of the evening at the club their show had to end a bit early.

Thanx a lot for the reply, mate!
I'll face the same problem because at Prague (the only show I can get to ... ) they'll play as third of five bands ... See here (http://www.fanonline.cz/abaton/detail.asp?akce=117) .
Maybe I should kidnap these other bands so the venue will be forced to let Alchemist play two hours in order to satisfy the crowd? ;)

Hey Buram, I'll do the best I can. Hopefully the stage manager doesn't keep too tight a time schedule because of the two other bands following Alchemist!

That might be a bigger problem because circle pits are not well known - let alone popular - in Germany. Bands often try to encourage fans to do them but this usually never works out. So far I've only been to one concert in another country - the nearly extinct "Dynamo"-festival in the Netherlands - and there were no circle pits, either. I don't know about fans in the Czech Republic, though. I wonder how the crowd will react anyway; I'm afraid no one there will know Alchemist-songs except for me and my girl-friend.
By the way, what way does that circle pit move: clockwise or counter-clockwise?

Saw them in Sheffield last night (9th), The Corporation is a shit venue and as a support band they only got to play 25mins, I was gutted and so were they, seems like thats how it is on most of the shows in the UK.
They've had a very mixed reception over here, I'd put that down to the fact that most people attending gigs these days are shitty little nu-metallers and the 'nu' BM crowd (i.e. people with no musical taste whatsoever), also they've had no proper promotion over here. They said they've had the Bradford Rios date cancelled, which is really bad news, Rios is one of the best venues in the UK, the promoters sound shite. I really wish them well with the rest of the tour, and I wish I could afford to make it over to France or one of the european dates where they actually get to headline! They're fukkin' brilliant, and such top blokes with it, even in the face of such a miserable crowd like those in Sheffield. Got some video and lots of photos and it was brilliant talking to them (has made my year!)

Nice work! Looks like the boys are having fun, even if Sheffield wasn't that great.... Don't worry Alcheist have a lot of experience playing really awesome shows at really shit venues.... Hey where is Maggs in that pic he usually never misses a chance..
Hey fist time I have had a chance to write since we have been here. Amsterdam was a bit of a warm up for us a few problems, the best shows have been Prog Power and London both were great. Gordon - you are an absolute champion and really saved our ass over there (you know what I mean). The cult of Luna shows in the UK have been great, and we are having an awesome time and we are fully in the groove of playing - looking forward to getting back to Europe and catching up with Mick at the end - cheers all. sorry about the spelling. Rock on!

Hi there, contrary to what VALAN thinks - we really enjoyed having you at the club. As for the venue being a dump, I didnt really get that impression from the band.
As for saying your glad you missed the support band why not check my site and check a rough track.
I personally thought Alchemist were real cool, nice guys, and hope to see them again in the future. Take care my brothers in rock and now I know exactly how long youve been going, im gonna make sure I get hold of the back catalogue.
Everybody should eat space invaders - the sugary goodness of the magical discs!!!!
