Ok, so what's with the Iron Maiden T shirt thing?

I rocked into the Trocadero Saturday night in my faithful old Alchemist T shirt, a blue 'Organasm' T and one of only three Alchemist T's I saw all night. There were about 140 people there in a quick head count, and almost half of them were wearing IRON MAIDEN T shirts!

I tend to notice these things, alright? I spotted a couple of Slipknot T's, a couple of Slayer, one Ministry, Roy's Metal For The Brain T of course, I think I saw a faded Ramones T, and one Damageplan which was a bit of a surprise. Fortunately there wasn't a single Guns & Roses or KISS T shirt in sight! There wasn't even one example of Pantera's 'Far Beyond Driven' T, which seemed almost compulsory wearing here on the Gold Coast a few years back. But back to my question...

What's with Iron Maiden? I never did get into them much at all, I preferred Sabbath, Ozzy and Priest during the 80's and 90's, but I didn't think IM was THAT BIG in Australia? Is this trend limited to the Gold Coast, or is it Australia wide? Did KMart perhaps get a truckload of IM T's to sell for $10 each? I'm intrigued!

Peace, Glen.

I was wearing an Iron Maiden shirt and have been a fan for many years now...when I went to purchase an Alchemist shirt I was told that there was none left in my size which was unfortunate.

But then again, I love GnR and Kiss, too.

Aren't you "supposed" to wear a T-Shirt of a band that's not playing at the live show you're going to see (unless it's a VERY old and rare shirt of the band) to show what else you're into (or - if you have the ancient shirt - how long you already have been following the band) and buy a new shirt after the show to wear it on your way home to show everybody where you come from? ;)

I've noticed a lot of people wearing Iron Maiden shirts recently.

Actually I read somewhere just recently about a metal magazine or something that does an annual survey of the most popular/best selling T shirts in the entire World, and the various manifestations of Iron Maiden's 'Eddy' was No.1 by a long shot for 2004!

Peace, Glen.

After another weekend at the "With Full Force"-festival in early July I'm sure that the classic "Motörhead England"-T-Shirts are the most popular ones here in Germ-Money - for whatever reasons ...
Hey Glen, do you happen to have a source for the survey you quoted?

Sorry Mick, have no idea where I saw the article. It was ages ago now, and I spend a lot of time trolling through news sites on the web looking for items of interest. I think it was a Pommie magazine, but apparently they do a survey each year of the most popular metal T's sold. Maybe they do other stuff too. I saw an article recently about the most popular music played at funerals, and in England it's crap from people like like Elton John and Queen, while in Europe AC/DC's 'Highway To Hell' was the second most popular funeral song, right behind Led Zeppelin's 'Stairway To Heaven'... :lo: :lo: :lo: :lo:

Figure that one out!

(And maybe try a few Google searches)

Peace, Glen.

Iron Maiden's 'Only The Good Die Young' and 'No Prayer For The Dying' are also favorite tunes.

@ "the ancient metaller": No worries, mate! I'll try to find the article you mentioned some time (I'm in a Berlin Internet-café right now, taking a break from checking out potential new flats for my family and me.).
I never thought about what song I wanted to be played on my funeral, yet. Maybe I should give this some thought; you never know ...
