One of the best inventions on the planet. Thanks, Finland. I want to renew my Gold's pass just so I can use their fucking sauna haha. Really though, kicking it in a sauna is one of the best feelings there is.

saunas > steam rooms.
I hate coming out of them though. I always feel so cold.

The only bad thing about saunas is that there are so many nearly naked dudes in it that it's tough to pick one out to take home with you.

Saunas are relaxing, but they make me so tired.

i was in a sauna the other week. Does any body here ever go straight for the top bunk? Or do you have to work your way up to it?

i fucking love saunas. up until I was 11 years old, I used to go almost weekly with my mom and it was the best.
no feeling compares to being on the top bench of a sauna for 10 min and then jumping into a pool with 6 feet of ice in it.

sorry for triple post but, for you sauna lovers: have you ever used one of these?

in Russian, it's called a venik and basically, you lie down in a sauna, and you get somebody to hit you with it. it's more of a massage than a beating lol, and the heat produced by it is INTENSE.
EDIT: LOL, I can't believe I actually found this:

I read that in Finland it kind of against the rules to wear anything in a sauna. Kinda like wearing your shoes inside someone's house.

Have you heard about this world sauna championship?
"World Sauna Championships is an annual event held in Heinola, Finland. It originates from unofficial sauna-sitting competitions that resulted in a ban from the swimhall in Heinola. The championships were first arranged in 1999 and the event has grown bigger every year. Competitors from over 20 countries take part in the competition at their own risk, and have to sign a form agreeing not to take legal action on the organizers. Notably, the Finnish Sauna Society opposes the event.[1]
The championships begin with preliminary rounds and end in the finals, where the best six men and women see who can sit in the sauna the longest. The starting temperature in the men's competition is 110 ºC (230 °F) and every 30 seconds half a litre of water is poured on the stove. The winner is the last person to stay in the sauna and walk out of there without outside help." - Wikipedia.
I'd actually like to partake in that, and I'd probably get my ass kicked.

it's not actually a stove with pots of water lol.

the water would be poured on those blazing hot stones; i'm pretty sure it's to keep the sauna from being too dry, otherwise, you'd pass out.

Kinda. It's more just humidity than steam. It sounds uncomfortable but if you don't turn it up too hot it really is such an excellent way to relax. It forces a lot of bodily toxins out through your pores, in lay terms. Steam rooms are nice too, but are a bit harder to breathe in than a sauna. They clean the hell out of your sinuses though.
Just don't pee on the rocks. My friend did that at a local fitness center, they had to shut the pool area down for like 2 days to get the smell out haha.
Also, has anyone ever plugged the drain in a steam room before? We did that at the gym once, it got so steamy in the room you could hardly see your hand out in front of your face. Probably not the safest thing though lol.

haha I wanna clog the vent in a sauna and smoke a blunt in there. That would be the most intense Jamaican Hotbox ever.

I can see where it would be really relaxing...it sounds like torture, but at the same time it sounds amazing. like cranking the shower up stupidly hot and just standing there for a while, but somehow less...wasteful? haha
i used to think hot tubs would be uncomfortable...but once youre in you never wanna leave....
what is the difference between sauna and steam room though exactly? seem very similar...but obviously not...

Yeah, saunas rule so hard (i´m from Finland btw). In Finland we also use those things called veniks (we call it a vasta). The only difference is that here we usually hit ourselves instead of others:emot-boun
The thing about us not being allowed to wear anything in a public sauna, i think, is because if you have been swimming the chlorine on your swimmingpants might evaporate (?) or boil into gas and cause allergic reactions, or somenting, to some. I´m not really sure though, never thought about it.
There are many different kinds of saunas and in some of them you are allowed to wear something lol

Well it's pretty self-explanatory, I think. I've been in both, and the sauna is just a lot drier than the steam room.
I guess the way you could look at it is that saunas give off dry heat, while steam rooms give off sort of moist heat.
