Death metal would be a much happier place if more guitarists took cues from him.

My already considerable level of respect for him rose a millionfold when you posted that unreleased 1992 Ripping Corpse album, Tzimisce.

Guy's a legend. I bow before him.

Shaune Kelley is such a fantastic guitar player, words cannot express what admiration I have for him. One of the most dynamic guitar players in Death Metal.
Ripping Corpse is incredibly overlooked for a band with such talented musicians.

<<<<You know it.

ripping corpse and dim mak are the shit. Knives of ice is one of my favorite metal albums to come out in a long time. Can't wait for the new one.

i was talking to Shaune back in February and he says all the songs for the new Dim Mak are finished and they are alot less brutal than the Knives songs. they have alot more groove like the earlier albums. Shaune is fucking TINY by the way.

This thread made me happy |m| it's great seeing Shaune gets the recognition he truly deserves, and indeed he's not just an extraordinary guitar player, he's really cool person and those are fucking rare I tell you... I just can't wait for 2009 because if nothing, there still will be the new Dim Mak released and that will be massive. And I think the new album will be extreme shit anyway, he's here to break the boundaries and push them, so groove or blast, it will be extreme and unique, as always. With John behind the kit again. I am thrilled just writing about it. ]:>

http://transcend666.com/dtalks/hateeternal_dimmak/ this one is a huge intie with Shaune, lots of you have already read it, but for those who possibly didn't, enjoy

na. co write yeah, but Erik needs to have the lion's share of the writing. i think Erik has a better ear for writing melodies. that said, no one can top Shaune when it comes to writing awesome ass backward riffs! hopefully Alex will be on the next album as well.

Yeah, I was half-joking. But Shaune should write some of it, because Erik is a pretty one-dimensional songwriter. If they shared rhythym and solo duties on the next album and got Alex to play bass again, plus used a less muddy production, the next Hate Eternal could be a contender.

Listened... Riffs are typically SIIIIIICK. A little too blast-happy on the drumming, IMO. But this was recorded with a drum machine.
Guitar tone sounds a lot more like Hate Eternal this time around.

I always see alot posts on this board "i love ripping corpse but could never get into dim mak"....you dudes need to give dim mak another chance. Its basically ripping corpse with a different name. I think knives of ice is the best thing shaune has ever done.

Not sure if Dim Mak's arrangements are necessarily 'better'... but they are much more streamlined and groove-oriented than RC's. The only thing I don't like is that sometimes Scott's vocal patterns are a little too hardcore-oriented. But it's not nearly enough to put me off the band altogether.

Production on Intercepting Fist sucks, too.

I understand they're friends from way back. But shit, why would ANYONE go to Erik Rutan for production nowadays?

Shred The Ganja
11-28-2008, 04:53 PM
I actually dig scott's vocals quite a bit. But yea sometimes he sounds a little "cheesy" i guess.

I think Rutan is very hit or miss. I like the production on a few of his albums and than some just plain blow ass. You never know with him.

It makes me nervous hes doing dim mak. Better not fuck this up.

Tzimisce
11-28-2008, 05:19 PM
I think his problem is he has musician's deafness. Certain frequencies sound stronger to him than others, so he overcompensates for that on his mixes.
Same thing happened with Iron Maiden's 'The X-Factor', which Steve Harris produced by himself.

The production on the new Soilent Green was very good. But I agree, he's very hit or miss. Usually a big miss.

Intercepting fist was one of the hits. clear but ripping guitars, natural sounding drums, good environment/atmosphere. rips face.

PS: forgive me if I've asked before but has anybody else noticed the "windows doesn't like what I'm doing" cowbell sound that appears in 'Nine Head Serpentine Sire' @ 0:28 ???

It's probably a rimshot or just a head gettins struck at a weird angle, but it sounds just like that windows error sound and used to trip me out when I'd hear that.

Upon further review, I've decided that I was wrong about the I.F. production.

Just wish the snare was a little punchier.

Still, can't wait for the new album. The 3 demo tracks are very promising.
